Hi, have created a blog recently about Secret places in Paris and would love to have your opinion which will motivate me to continue. I know how difficult Fodors travelers can be !!

Hmm.. what kinds of shops... For me personally, I would love to know about cute, unique-to-Paris (or at least France) clothing boutiques with moderate prices. Or maybe some fun, not-so-touristy gift shops or stationery stores.

I went to the little Catherine Labouré convent garden last year but it was in February so didn't look nearly as pretty as your photo.

As long as you're taking requests I'd love to see photos of the Jardin d'Alpin in the Jardin des Plantes. Went there last year, too, but unfortunately it was closed. ;)

Will certainly go and take a picture of the Jardin Alpin where my husband used to take his girlfriends when he was a student at La Sorbonne.

lisette: lovely website. The title of your thread reminded me of my thread back in 2004 about a secret garden in Paris. I didn't actually make it back to Paris to check it out but wondering if you have heard of it.

read about this place on a website about Paris but to be honest, I cannot find any reference to it in a guidebook or elsewhere online. I thought someone here might know.

Apparently in front of 13 rue des Fetes at the lower end of the place des Fetes, there is a door that leads to a passage and some secret gardens. Has anyone heard of this place or actually visited? I am going to try to find it in April but not sure I want to go on a wild goose chase.


Maybe the mystery continues or Lisette will find the answer.....

Hello, yes there is a secret garden but private for residents. The door which leads to the passage has a code but should not be difficult if you go there to get in when one resident does!
In May (from 12th to 15th May), we have open door days which allows everybody to visit private places such as artist workshops and I have been told that this passage will be opened to public.
I will go and take a nice picture for you “coldwar”

Your photos are lovely lisette75 - I have walked past the little garden in Montmarte many times and seen the gate locked. Maybe it's time to coincide a visit with their opening times.
Walking up Rue de Belville towards Rue de Fetes near the corner of Rue Lassus is a magnificent church - Can you or anyone else (kerouac) tell me the name and also the metro stop opposite?

Hi Tod, Thanks for your comments, I am glade you know the St Vincent garden and it is a pity that it is only open on Saturday. Regarding the church you are looking for it is called St Jean Baptiste de Belleville, they have a website http://sjbb.org/ and metro is either Belleville or Jourdain

Unfortunately no garden celebration this year but some other events in May like one at Bagatelle "hommage à la rose" (Rose's anniversary)and the City Council is making a big temporary garden Place de l'hotel de Ville. I am going to look for a website into english about these events and will post a new message

PORTE DE L'ARSENAL - (seen this one)
Luscious gardens which offer a wonderful view of the port and in June is a place for lovers of roses.

RUE MICHEL-DE-BOURGES & RUE DES VIGNOLES-
Petite square filled with wildwood flowers and a great spot for bread and cheese (don't forget the wine!).

SQUARE GEORGES CAIN-
Behind Musee Carnarvalet a haven of peace and serenity among ivy covered walls and statues.

The much visited SQUARE CHAISE RECAMIER at the end of Rue Recamier off Rue De Sevres. I found it totally deserted except for a lonely old man sweeping up leaves.

thanks Tod for a start on a list. I tried searching for a list, but so far have only come up the the big gardens. I normally travel to Paris at Christmas time and so I will be seeing a "New Paris" this time! I will keep my eyes open for the mysterious gates! Please post any other ideas!

Lisette, I am also going to be in Paris at the end of May (first solo trip, first time in Paris!), and staying near the Parc Monceau, and would love to know what other gardens to see around that time (I sent you an email off-line with my email address). Your blog is lovely!

They are so many beautiful things to see that I will not include in my blog because people like the fodorites already know them and they are easy to discover. If it is your first time, you might not have much time to spend in the secret garden otherwise you are going to miss the "more known" Paris which is as or even more beautiful. If I have one advice to give you, spend time walking on the banks of the Seine because it is so full of richeness (all the monuments and bridges you are going to meet on both sides) and beauty and gardens also, it will lead you to St Louis Island (after living in Paris for so many years, I never get bored with the island), Notre Dame to finish to the Botanical garden (Jardin des Plantes) so beautiful in May. I am going to find out about a secret garden tour into english and let you know.

Lisette, I will be in Paris about 11 days, arriving on the 19th and leaving on the 30th of May. At first, I wondered if that was going to be too long in one city, and if I should plan on venturing out beyond Paris, but having read and talked to more people since then, it is beginning to sound like ten days will barely scratch the surface of all there is to see!

Yes 10 days is perfect and then you will have some time to explore the Secret Paris. I have an idea for you if you want to spend some time outside Paris.
