If you wish to accessorize with your vests you could get similarly reflective scarves. This would also make you look more French.

colduphere Mar 2nd, 2012 07:22 AM

I think the vests and scarves and umbrellas would look funny with shorts. It's only my wife and me, and we're not the best looking people to start with.

Oh my god, are you Canadian? I was embarassed to read your post but, if you are Canadian, I am totally horrified. Do NOT wear white shorts. A dork is a polite word for what people will think.

StCirq Mar 2nd, 2012 08:15 AM

Some people here obviously don't ever visit the Lounge.

cold, paint a big purple bull's eye on those shorts in case there are stupid criminals out there.

colduphere Mar 2nd, 2012 08:24 AM

StCirq - I recently experienced a life changing experience in Cuzco, Peru. We were walking along a street when suddenly one son was bent over in laughter. When I asked why he pointed at a guy wearing short white shorts, bright red shirt, tilley hat, running shoes and a fanny pack and said "there's your long lost twin". The guy looked like a complete idiot.

I have always been a "wear what you want" kind of guy but this experience shook me.

When you make the final decision re outfit, please post.

Aduchamp1 Mar 2nd, 2012 08:28 AM

Cold

Do not listen to your fellow Canadian and dress the way that will most embarrass your wife and kids, as you do back home.

I am surprised that some Brit has not chimed in with so many references to fanny packs. This could be some new stage in transgender transmutation.

And please, whatever you do, do not post those pictures. There is enough horror, pestilence, disease, and tourists in the world as it stands.

One more thing, Cold..factually, The Canadien Embassy in Paris does award asylum..in case you feel the need. Cheapest "hotel" in town.

cigalechanta Mar 2nd, 2012 10:18 AM

Stay in Pigalle. You will feel at home there.

Aduchamp1 Mar 2nd, 2012 10:34 AM

I saw a picture of Rick Steves and I think he took your fashion advice.

immimi Mar 2nd, 2012 10:39 AM

"...award asylum " - in Cold's case the insane kind.

colduphere Mar 2nd, 2012 10:48 AM

People told me the European Forum was really friendly. And that I could get some great fashion advice here. Well I'm not feeling the love.

I can't go back to the Lounge. They're screaming lunatics over there. I guess I'll go to the South America Forum and talk to myself. :((

ziggypop Mar 2nd, 2012 10:58 AM

Cold, I know that you are over 50 and we get a little lax in our fashion at that age but you need to know this, the new Paris colors are bright lime green and bright orange. I would leave the white shorts at home and go for the modern fashion colors. You will have to consult your daughter or someone on this forum as to which of those two colors goes best with the purple fannypack.
au revoir, ziggypop

Go to hell, if you do not like the heartfelt advice.

Signed warmly,

Kiss, Kiss, Kiss!! Lots of love from your American cousin in NJ.

Wear orange with the purple butt pack. To quote a line from Four Weddings and a Funeral: "The ecclesiastical purple and the pagan orange!" They rock!

dunia123 Mar 2nd, 2012 11:13 AM

I don't think you could go wrong with either the orange or the lime green with the purple fanny pack. Tres chic! Maybe lime green shorts?

colduphere Mar 2nd, 2012 11:26 AM

I did wear lime green pants (not shorts) to the Vatican. But at the time I had a black fanny pack.

I hate to have to buy new shorts as I still have my Rod Laver white tennis shorts in fair condition. They're probably four sizes too small for me now. But I just wear them low. My wife says they look nice on me.

Cold - are you going to the French Open? If so, those white tennis shorts would be perfect.

We will be there and will look out for you!

AnselmAdorne Mar 2nd, 2012 01:57 PM
