We stayed at the Hotel Locarno several years ago. The location near the Piazza di Popolo was fairly convenient, but the room we had was wonderful! Hardwood floors, nice sized bathroom with full size tub, and very nice staff. A charming end to our two weeks in Italy!

I too stayed at the Hotel Lorcano this past may - located near the Piazza del Popollo (?) - at the "top" of the Via del Corso (Corsa? - typing on the fly - sorry). My room was nice sized - and the staff was extremely helpful in makng dinner suggetions, reservations, etc. It was a nice hotel for my first time in Rome - however, next time I'll either find something a bit more centrally located (near the Pantheon might be nice) or stay in Trastevere.

Hotel Franklin is a very cute little hotel that we discovered by accident in May but we really liked it. It's a four-star hotel but quite inexepensive ($150/night) because its not right in the center of the city (it's on the Vatican side). It is right near the metro and we thought it was a great value for the money.
http://www.charmingrome.com/franklin/
I can recommend Hotel Rex, Via Torino 149, Rome. This is a very nice, well located hotel. A 4 star with great rooms and a fantastic breakfast. I think you will like it very much. There is some more info at http://www.italy-rome-hotel.com/rome.../rex/index.htm

have fun

We stayed in the Hotel Pantheon last November and paid 350,000 IL including breakfast. The location is fantastic - right by the Pantheon, walking distance to most major sites. Stayed in the Diamante Suite. Fabulous 2 story suite with full bath, including tub, 2 walk in closets, stone ceilings. It is a refurbished monastery. Much charm, great staff, all creature comforts. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend.

I'm debating between Hotel Portoghesi and Hotel Locarno for my own trip in Nov, 2001.

If you would have a choice between these two, which would you all choose and why?

Thanks!
-Diane

We stayed at the Portoghesi a few months ago. It is a small, newly renovated hotel in a terrific location. The room was small but it did have an armoire, dresser and a marble bathroom with double sinks.

It is on a small street just a couple of blocks from the Pantheon and Piazza Navona so the location can't be beat.

If you have any questions, just write me.

We stayed at the Napoleon in Rome in November of 2000. Great hotel and great location. Literally right beside the subway stop and can get anywhere in town in less than 15 minutes. You can read all about my trip at www.appleberryroad.com.

john
