Looking for some hotel recommendations in Rome for November. I have a few in mind, but would like the input of those of you who have been there. All suggestions are welcome! Share your favorites and why. Thank you in advance! <BR>Michele

Budget???
|
No, not budget. I would be interested in anything under say $150.00 p/nt. inclusive of perhaps breakfast and taxes. I am just getting an idea of hotels others have tried and enjoyed in Rome, so really any info is fine. Thanks.

Whatever you do, do not stay at the Hotel Luxor. It was dark, smelly and overpriced!
|
look into the Santa Chiara--I'm booked there this fall. I haven't stayed there before. Many positive comments on it on this forum, and elswhere. Also <BR>Teatro di Pompeo, ditto.

In November of 1998 my wife and I stayed at Best Western Villafranca Hotel - about 4-5 blocks away from Termini train station. It is small and quiet. What we benefited the most is that we never had to take taxi due to proximity to the train station. I think we paid around $100-120 US (includes all taxes). However, althought its still considered downtown, this is not the most interesting area of Rome.

The Hotel Raphael is one of the most charming, elegant and intimate 4-star hotels in Rome--I haven't yet stayed there--it's a bit over my budget, but I'm saving it for a splurge. I love its little private piazza and its quiet location in the heart of Vecchia Roma, near the Piazza Navona.

Info on Hotel Viminale <BR>Michele--Will copy earlier post for you on H. Vimnale in central Rome: <BR> <BR> Message: We stayed at Hotel Viminale (***) for L340,000 per night for two, <BR> breakfast included. Rooms are standard size (for a 3-star hotel, smallish by <BR> American standards), and include all amenities--in-room bath/shower, AC, hair <BR> dryer, safe, fridge, etc. Breakfast is very ordinary, and served in a quiet little <BR> courtyard at ground level. It's got to be the safest hotel in Rome--located right <BR> across the street from the Ministry of Police--there are literally two armed <BR> policemen on the quiet little street 24 hr per day. It is centrally located on Via <BR> Cesare Balbo(#31), a very quiet, narrow, one-way street w. little traffic just off <BR> two major streets (west of intersection of Via Cavour and Via Depreti) about a <BR> 10 min walk from Termini, Vittorio Emanuele Monument, Colosseum, Santa <BR> Maria Maggiore (a must-see church; its Sixtine Chapel and Borghese Chapel <BR> rival anything you will see in St. Peters). Both trattoria and market w/in half <BR> block. Outdoor courtyards--w. lawn swings!--on both 4th and 5th floors, w. nice <BR> view of Maggiore about 3 blocks away. <BR> For more info and pix, see their web site: <BR> http://www.travel.it/roma/hotelviminale/ <BR> <BR> E-mail: [email protected] <BR> <BR>

I stayed at the Sant’Angelo Hotel (3*) in Rome 2 years ago: <BR> <BR>http://www.charmingrome.com/angelo/pages/profile.htm <BR>Fax: 011-39-06-320-4451 <BR> <BR>It is well situated, on a quiet side street, within walking distance of the Vatican and Spanish Steps (it's on the Vatican side of the river). The hosts had a wonderful restaurant recommendation a block or two away (we ate there 2 of the 3 nights we stayed at the hotel). <BR> <BR>

I stayed at the Santa Chiara for five nights last June. It's clean, serves a great breakfast, and the location can't be beat. It's right behind the Pantheon and close to many places of interest. <BR> <BR>Have a great vacation! <BR> <BR>

Michele, <BR>Just returned last night. <BR>Can't write much, but <BR>Della Torre Argentina. <BR>we had a suite, because of the children. which was quiet and O.K, but nothing special. <BR>(Except foir the roof terrace, and continental breakfast.) <BR>but, the last night in rome, before we left for the beach, i walked into the <BR>Hotel del Senato, which is right on the P. Rotunda, and looks right over the Pantheon. <BR>I made reservations for 2 rooms for our return to Rome,(still with children, but without husband , my best friend took his place) <BR>The rooms were small, but very lovely. <BR>The staff there was VERY friendly to me, (and I do not think it was only because I blasted into there with a big smile on my face, talking garbled italian to them.) <BR>I paid 390,000 lira per night, per room , for two persons. <BR>(about $200/ night) <BR>they may have cheaper rooms also. <BR>I would definitely return!!! <BR>Have fun!! <BR> <BR>

We also stayed at the Villafranca and thought it was a wonderful bargain at the price. We have been in Rome before and did not mind the location for we did find it very convenient. It is also very easy to book and cancel by using the 800 Best Western number. We also saw the Canada which was very near and it is also under the Best Western umbrella and this hotel has good reviews in guide books. You will probaby get a better price in November and if you are a senior citizen they give you a discount.

We stayed at the Hilton Caliveri. If you want an American style hotel - this is the place!
|
I recommend Residenza Farnese. It's in your price point and has a fabulous location, right next to the Campo Dei Fiori, a side street off of the Piazza Farnese. A 15 minute walk to Forum 15 minute walk to Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, 5 minute walk to Piazza Navona. Here's the link: http://mysite.ciaoweb.it/rfarnese/ <BR>Free free to e-mail me if you have more questions about Rome.

I stayed in June in Rome and i found a very nice and clean Hotel near the Opera<BR>house is Hotel Altavilla you can have a double room with private bath and breakfast fo Lit. 190.ooo approx 90 US<BR>fax 06 4745800 or webside Hotelaltavilla<BR>.it

We stayed at the Best Western President. It was okay, but when we checked out, they charged us for pay per view movies that we hadn't watched. We don't speak Italian, and the desk clerk didn't speak English, so we just paid is (the equivalent of $20) and went on our way.
|
I can recommend the Hotel Condotti, Manfredi or Mozart, all in the Piazza di Spagna area, the Hotel Accademia, close to the Trevi Fountain, but they are all above 150 dollars per night, except the Hotel Mozart. If in Summer, the rates will be discounted.
|
Michelle et al.: <BR>In figuring your price point you should keep in mind that November is the off season. You should expect to pay at least 20 percent less than the prices quoted for regular season. This should put many nice hotels within your price range. I recommend you try to stay in the centro storico area and avoid Termini, Vatican or other out of the way areas. Many good hotels have been mentioned on this forum. <BR>Good hunting. <BR> <BR>

We stayed at the Hotel Locarno several years ago. The location near the Piazza di Popolo was fairly convenient, but the room we had was wonderful! Hardwood floors, nice sized bathroom with full size tub, and very nice staff. A charming end to our two weeks in Italy!
|
I too stayed at the Hotel Lorcano this past may - located near the Piazza del Popollo (?) - at the "top" of the Via del Corso (Corsa? - typing on the fly - sorry). My room was nice sized - and the staff was extremely helpful in makng dinner suggetions, reservations, etc. It was a nice hotel for my first time in Rome - however, next time I'll either find something a bit more centrally located (near the Pantheon might be nice) or stay in Trastevere.

Hotel Franklin is a very cute little hotel that we discovered by accident in May but we really liked it. It's a four-star hotel but quite inexepensive ($150/night) because its not right in the center of the city (it's on the Vatican side). It is right near the metro and we thought it was a great value for the money. <BR>http://www.charmingrome.com/franklin/ <BR>

I can recommend Hotel Rex, Via Torino 149, Rome. This is a very nice, well located hotel. A 4 star with great rooms and a fantastic breakfast. I think you will like it very much. There is some more info at http://www.italy-rome-hotel.com/rome.../rex/index.htm <BR> <BR>have fun

We stayed in the Hotel Pantheon last November and paid 350,000 IL including breakfast. The location is fantastic - right by the Pantheon, walking distance to most major sites. Stayed in the Diamante Suite. Fabulous 2 story suite with full bath, including tub, 2 walk in closets, stone ceilings. It is a refurbished monastery. Much charm, great staff, all creature comforts. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend.

I'm debating between Hotel Portoghesi and Hotel Locarno for my own trip in Nov, 2001. <BR> <BR>If you would have a choice between these two, which would you all choose and why? <BR> <BR>Thanks! <BR>-Diane
|
We stayed at the Portoghesi a few months ago. It is a small, newly renovated hotel in a terrific location. The room was small but it did have an armoire, dresser and a marble bathroom with double sinks. <BR> <BR>It is on a small street just a couple of blocks from the Pantheon and Piazza Navona so the location can't be beat. <BR> <BR>If you have any questions, just write me.

We stayed at the Napoleon in Rome in November of 2000. Great hotel and great location. Literally right beside the subway stop and can get anywhere in town in less than 15 minutes. You can read all about my trip at www.appleberryroad.com. <BR> <BR>john
