Patrick has been blocked from posting here!

Patrick emailed me that when he tried to post this afternoon, he was blocked and told to read the "subscriber conduct" information.
Could it be that he dared to criticize Fodor's on another thread?
Ooops, I better watch what I say, or I may be blocked!

Scarlett Nov 9th, 2005 03:03 PM

I cannot believe it is not a glitch of some sort, maybe they got Patrick confused with someone else.
Lord knows, if everyone who disagreed with someone on these boards, we would all be banned!
Patrick is always as helpful as he can be and travels extensively, he has a lot to contribute and I think and hope he should be back on the boards very soon.

In the meantime, do people not get a warning before being banned?

wren Nov 9th, 2005 03:05 PM

I agree Scarlett...he is always a gentleman. When he disagrees it is in a cordial fashion. Let's hope it is just a mistake.

Marilyn Nov 9th, 2005 03:13 PM

Shouldn't there be a system of some sort? A warning or 2 before being blocked? Or is this all just a ghastly mistake?

I think many of us would like to know more about how this operates.

mv_rd Nov 9th, 2005 03:15 PM

What could he have possibly said to get blocked? Even if he did criticize fodors, are they that sensitive???

((N)) to fodors if they did block Patrick and if you never see me post on here again, it's probably because I got blocked too for making this statement, LOL!

I wonder if he could he re-register w/ a different ID?

jules4je7 Nov 9th, 2005 03:16 PM

Wren, I wouldn't say he's always a gentleman, but he isn't someone I'd count as one of the bottom dwellers who actually deserves to be booted.

Makes one wonder what you have to do around here to get popped off the board.

StuDudley Nov 9th, 2005 03:17 PM

Patrick is one of the best contributors on this travel board.

If someone from Fodors reads this - please explain !!!

Statia Nov 9th, 2005 03:20 PM

WHAT???!!! Something is wrong with this picture. Patrick?

Scarlett Nov 9th, 2005 03:20 PM

As long as Patrick has been posting and giving excellent advice, he deserves to be at least warned if someone took umbrage to something he posted.
I have to believe this is a mistake on Fodors part and will be fixed soon.
We need More Patricks on these boards, not one less!

P_M Nov 9th, 2005 03:21 PM

I replied to this thread on the US board, but I will reply here as well. I suggest we all email the editors in support of Patrick.

FREE PATRICK!!!! **==

mimosa Nov 9th, 2005 03:25 PM

Why did they ban him?

Betsy Nov 9th, 2005 03:26 PM

Oh please say it isn't so! Patrick is a highly valued contributer to this site, so if he has been, in fact, blocked, HQ needs to take a serious look at its policies.

bob_brown Nov 9th, 2005 03:29 PM

Good Grief.
If that is the case with Patrick, I should be booted as well.
Perhaps I have been and don't know it.

cigalechanta Nov 9th, 2005 03:31 PM

weird, I think. Howard, did Patrick say why?

HowardR Nov 9th, 2005 03:36 PM

I just posted on the US forum the 2 possible "no-nos" that Patrick thought he might have committed:
1. He questioned Fodor's idea of adding monitors on a thread on this board, or
2. A posting on the US board about a wine list in Seattle.

Orcas Nov 9th, 2005 03:38 PM

Can't Patrick come back as "The Poster Formerly Known as Patrick," or "AKA Patrick," or something?

rex Nov 9th, 2005 03:44 PM

Register your protest with both [email protected] and with [email protected]

Add your name to this thread to say I e-mailed this thread to them...

There must be a mistake.

Best wishes,

Rex

P_M Nov 9th, 2005 03:49 PM

I just now sent my email.

seafox Nov 9th, 2005 03:52 PM

What anarchy is this???? We must all e-mail them....shame on you Fodors!!!!!!!!

Lets_Go13 Nov 9th, 2005 04:00 PM

I just emailed them: "I am curious to know why Patrick was banned. Why no warning. There have been other contributors with really horrible responses, yet they continue without being banned. I rarely post on the site, but I am there almost every day to research information. Please respond."

crefloors Nov 9th, 2005 04:03 PM

Oh for pete's sake!!!!! Unbelievable. I mean come on already, Patrick? We've already spoken about "boards gone wild" but for heavens sake, I think some of this "monitoring" is a bit heavy handed. So next it will be me? I'm thinking about a couple of my favorites, maybe that's why they havn't been around much these days.

hdm Nov 9th, 2005 04:06 PM

Surely this must be a mistake. And it couldn't possibly be because he disagreed with the idea of a monitor. The question was asked by Peter Kay and everyone gave their opinion -- and pretty much everyone disagreed with the idea.

I have the feeling I'm about to be kicked off too because I feel strongly that this board has been more troubled than I've ever seen it since Peter Kay's entrance to it.

So if you don't see my name again, you'll know why. And certainly, if Patrick -- one of the better behaved, more knowledgeable posters -- has been barred, everybody better watch their step.

jody Nov 9th, 2005 04:06 PM

I cannot comprend this at all! PATRICK..one of the best posters on Fodors! You might not agree with his every statement but he certainly has the right to his opinion!

Fodor's ..you are WAY OUT OF LINE HERE!!

HowardR Nov 9th, 2005 04:11 PM

Just received this email from Patrick:
"Wow. Thanks. I can't believe the stir."

bardo1 Nov 9th, 2005 04:17 PM

I couldn't agree more. PATRICK? He's never posted anything deserving such treatment.

I can think of about a hundered OTHERS however.....

suze Nov 9th, 2005 04:19 PM

Crazy business! Patrick is a valuable (even priceless) long-time contributor here. Things are weirder and weirder.

Lately a number of PV threads on the Latin America branch were pulled when a 1st time poster decided they didn't like my face and said so loud and clear. Most but not all of them mysteriously reappeared a couple days later. There main complaint against me was I just posted too darn much.

suze Nov 9th, 2005 04:21 PM

"Their" main complaint... duh got so excited I forgot how to spell.

Free Patrick!!!!

Simone1 Nov 9th, 2005 04:22 PM

I am not sure my word means much yet, but I’ve sent out my complaint.

progol Nov 9th, 2005 04:25 PM

Patrick? Banned?? Oh woe
(she says, with dramatic hand to forehead), is nothing safe anymore?

Please, dear editors, please release him from this unfair banishment! He is guilty of naught that I can see!
--------
Or, as the 60's kid in me comes out, FREE PATRICK NOW!
Hey, Hey,
Whadda ya say,
We want Patrick
Back today!

Wow, this is unbelievable!

FREE PATRICK!!!

HowardR Nov 9th, 2005 04:28 PM

For those who asked or are curious, Patrick sent me the message he received:
"WELCOME TO FODORS.COM
Your screen name has been blocked temporarily on Fodors.com Travel Talk. Please review the Subscriber Conduct section of our Subscriber's Agreement."

mcnyc Nov 9th, 2005 04:29 PM

BOO!!! ((U)) Free Patrick! ((W))

I thought Fodors was based in the USA, where people like Patrick are allowed his 1st Amendment right to free speech.

Like the others, am wondering if this post will ban me for some time...

elithorn Nov 9th, 2005 04:33 PM

As a designer of websites and some one who finds it difficult to write and obey rules perhaps Patrick could email those of us who are bold enough to reveal email addresses addresses. My Phone is + 44 1865 777317 and google tells of my interests and you v=can reach my sites via locus-4u.com They are hard hat sites at the moment.

LoveItaly Nov 9th, 2005 04:36 PM

I am disgusted. With all the abuse that I took in the past from some real sick trolls, as well as abuse that other Fodorites here have taken I sitting here in shock that Patrick has been banned from Fodors.

I too was negative on the thought of Peter's about having Fodorite's monitor the boards. As he already started doing that?????

And as far as the Seattle restaurant post...if that is the worse that the editors of Fodor's ever see we will all be fortunate. I assume the person that whined about the wine complained to Fodors?????.

wliwl Nov 9th, 2005 04:38 PM

Well, if I didn't get kicked off for saying that I thought Barb's post was mean, I can't imagine why they'd kick off Patrick!!!

I couldn't have gone to Europe without his help for cryin' out loud!

Neil_Oz Nov 9th, 2005 04:41 PM

I've just sent off my protest. Surely only outrageous or persistent gross misconduct should merit being sent into the outer darkness. (I thought I'd better add the "gross" to avoid condemning myself).

Is this yet another over-zealous prosecution of the War on Terror? Is Patrick, or has he ever been, a member of the Communist Party, or al-Qa'eda?

rex Nov 9th, 2005 04:41 PM

Needs to be repeated...

janisj Nov 9th, 2005 04:41 PM

I posted on the duplicate of this thread over on the United States board - now waiting to see if I get banned too . . . . .

Patricia Nov 9th, 2005 04:47 PM

This is ridiculous, Patrick is one of the most valuable posters on this board. Come on Fodors do the right thing and bring back Patrick.

ssachida Nov 9th, 2005 04:47 PM

Patrick is a helpful and integral member of this board. I've appreciated his posts and I hope the editors will learn to do so as well.
