I'd like St. Louis a lot better if they closed the central street to traffic.
|
We look forward to a lunch on Ile St Louis this trip. We loved the area last year. But we were there on Christmas Eve (waiting for ice cream), so most cafes there were not open.
Not quite ready to stay there yet...maybe some day. I think it is because there is no metro station that we are reluctant. |
BeachGirl247- I found Fodors in 2001 after our first solo trip to France in June. There have been many since then but not as many as we would like. People have finally stopped saying "but you have been to Paris already". There is just something about Paris and France in general that speaks to us. Glad I found people who share that feeling here at Fodors.

AGM_Cape_Cod, We get that same response as well. I agree that it's nice to be able to come here to share our fondness of a place revisited many times - Paris.
|
just found this.
thanks so much for taking the time to post it - and for the restaurant recommendations. we're heading back to Paris in the spring for DH's birthday [don't tell him please, it's a secret] and I'm always interested in reading about where people have eaten! |
denisea----I just reread your Christmas TR from last year that popped up again. If it wasn't for family, I'd be so tempted to be there at that time. Your descriptions & photos were lovely. Now we'll have to see Thanksgiving in Paris through you eyes. Obviously they don't celebrate Thanksgiving, so will you be able to have turkey anywhere?
|
Hi TPAYT...I am not sure if turkey is on the menu but we have been invited to attend the TG dinner at Violon D'Ingres with Joan. I imagine it be memorable regardless of what is served, but I think there was a turkey served last year.
Would it be wrong to say that family often motivates us the travel to Europe and avoid the family holiday?? ;-) My husband re-read the TR this AM. I haven't had a chance to do it yet but have enjoyed the revival. |
TPayt: thanks for all your help on our trip. We just loved staying on the Ile St. Louis, both for the three day Hotel de Lutece part, and the one week apartment rental from Guest Apartment Services 10 days later. It now feels like home. And its confined enough not to get too lost!
I think I told you that we followed your suggestion and went to L'Orangerie for lunch. It was DH's favorite meal of the entire trip! Partly as it was quiet! Really hard in popular restaurants with tight tables, and if you're pretty deaf as DH is even with hearing aids. I too will be following Denisea's Thanksgiving trip, and wishing to be with them all! |
Great looking apartment! Loved the shot of Notre Dame...really lovely!
|
Tpayt: great photos. The last one of Luxembourg Gardens (the trees) is a classic!
And your apt. Looks just great, lots of light - is the bathroom upstairs with the bedroom? |
I love all your trip reports. http://www.llbdshop.com/dresses/
little dresses for your granddaughters(Eliena et Lena) I have Great nieces now, might have to check that out. Great photos!! |
flpab-----I've bought dresses at Mini Junior(Montparnasse & Raspil) 4 times now. This is one I purchased in Sept '11. I bought a similar one in brown w/shades of red ruffles last time and she wore it more that anything else in her closet plus it went in the washer like a dream. Yes, expensive but the quality is exceptional. Thanks for the website.
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...es&FORM=IDFRIR taconictraveler---the apt. was very comfortable and quiet. Yes, the bathroom is upstairs. Huge windows with lots of light but no view. We've stayed in fancier, but really liked this place better. The drawbacks, if any, were a very plain kitchen. Microwave, cooktop, and clothes washer, but no oven or dishwasher. Since all I make is cofee, this was not a problem for us. The upside was that it was huge (by Paris standards), quiet, and in an excellent location. http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...T/IMG_2312.jpg denisea--down to the wire and still checking in on Fodors makes you a true Fodorite! I'll be looking forward to your photos. |
Following the more recent Paris trip reports encouraged me to take the time to aad more photos.

Lovely photos - thanks!

Tpayt: Am I dreaming? Do you think it's possible that you mis-labeled the Petit Pontoise photos?
That restaurant looks great, but not how I remembered Le Petit Pontoise, where we went on your suggestion, by the way, and loved! I googled the Petit Pontoise just now, and it does look like the place we ate, but doesn't have those nice chairs that are in your photo. If it's a different place, I'd love to know, cuz it looks very nice. |
I think we were in Petit Pontoise Aussie--Petit Pontoise next to it. We planned to go to PP but ended up in PPA. Anyway it was great. Does this make any sense?
|
Enjoyed your trip report, we were in Paris the last week of September and had glorious weather too. But unlike you I have not done my trip report yet.
Loved looking at your photos, thanks for sharing. |
Of course it makes sense!! I didn't realize while we were in Paris that there was also a "Petit Pontoise Aussi" cute. It looks tres chic, and I know from your report that you enjoyed it!
