Joan,
I finally made it! I was reading the whole thing and found out about your dinner at La Fables de la Fontaine. Sounds like it turned out great. How's lunch at Spring? I'm sure it was as good as our dinner. Your new apartment seems like it's really great, too. It is closer to where my former apartment was. How is Max going to survive without you next door? I am missing Paris so much right now. Your reports are making up for it. Merci, ma chere amie. Lilia |
Joan,
I will email you with details of my itinerary that day. -Roberta |
Gracejoan3 - I have been reading your posts with great interest. I am planning a surprise birthday trip to Paris for my husband the first week of November. We will be staying in the Moulin a Vent, I hope! I would love a list of the good close-by restaurants! I suspect the weather won't be great, but who cares?! It's Paris! :-)
|
Lilia...so glad to see you posting on Fodor's. To others, she is the friend who joined me for the wonderful dinner at "Spring". She also lived in Paris for 5 years..right in the 7th area that I am so fond of! She speaks French well, too!
Abbeau..You will love the new Moulin a Vent. Do you have the website? Restaurants are overflowing in this area...pick the many from this thread...ask about some, if you want... a bientot |
Robertal
I did receive your email. I do hope you all can stop by for a few minutes...I will have some wine!! I have spread the word that you will be trying to cover all of Paris in a very short time! I think you are going to be pooped when you get home! I will stop by to see Valdo(Cafe Max) before I leave and remind him of the three of you. Better be careful with him!! a bientot........... Joan |
Joan,
We never, ever say no to wine! I hope we're in your area late afternoon. I wish we spoke better French, so we could really converse with all these interesting French people we will encounter (thanks to you)! -Roberta |
Roberta,
Speak what little French you know and you will be well rewarded in reeturn!! I just sent you an email..I hope you can drop by..we will have wine..red or white, or do you care? My friend came by and we went to Les Cocottes for lunch and back herre and then off the Ecole Militaire metro to Opera and walked to Galeries Lafayette for the freebie fashion show..you do have to have reservations. Well, we decided that we were certainly out of fashion! We really didn't care, either..most of what we saw, we really would not care to be seen in! Those girls, for the most part, looked anorexic!! Freind took her bus and I hopped back on metro...decided to get off at old stop and say hello to Valdo(Cafe Max) and remind him of you gals stopping by with "Joan sent us"..he is closed on Sat/Sun, remember. I told him about you 3 wanting to get on the fiancee list..I am still #1 on the list!! you will have to take deux, trois, quatre....He got all upset when I told him about my great evening the other night..Lorent coming by apt. and we going out to eat with friends, etc...he thought Lorent had spent the night!! He always wants to know what I am going to do when I leave..somehow, I always feel like I need have some place to be or someone to meet. We have a good rapport, as long as I keep in mind that I do not ask him to see my apt.......another day in Paris! A bit breezy today...some drizzle..but it is Paris! a bientot.................Joan |
Joan:
We certainly don't want you to get a "reputation" while in Paris! |
Weekender,
When I told many, including my granddaughter, that Madelyn(Paris Perfect owner)said I was a modern hippie, my granddaughter replied to the whole list that she couldn't see her grandmother as a hippie! She doesn't know her grandmother in Paris! I think I will wander over to Cafe Constant for a bite. No reservations, so just show up... a bientot....Joan |
That's so funny you asked about the wine preference - I emailed you with one of my most common phrases I use in Paris: "une bouteille de vin rouge, s'il vous plait"...
-Roberta |
I just ran out for a minute...it's freezing out there..nasty wind!!
Not pleasant........... Red wine it is, Roberta |
Joan:
I may be in Paris for a few days next spring when you are. I will take you out for lunch or dinner-my treat! In the meantime, I will try and go to Cafe Max and and Flirt'The while in Paris in December. I think I will check out your "boyfriends" to make sure you aren't going down the wrong path. You are welcome. Weekender. |
Weekender,
You will have to check them both out in December..big age difference. Both nice, in their own way!Lorent is a nice friendly young man with a relatively new business on his own. We will keep in touch via e-mail. His little group wants to join me for dinner at "Spring" in the spring. You will have to take your own chances with Valdo! Basically, a very nice person...but an Italian Frenchman...whatever that means!! We will have to keep in touch. Fun to get together with others who share some of the same interests. I will be in a Paris Perfect, here in the 7th from mid April to mid May. a bientot...... Joan |
The Galeries Lafayette little fashion show was yesterday afternoon. Sknny, anorexic looking gals wearing clothes that most of us would not care to wear! The crowning touch was the final..the wedding gown! It was a black shortie nightgown, that we felt she might wear later on that day/night, but not to walk down the aisle in!!
Tomorrow the Bristol High Tea/Fashion show..will see. a bientot....Joan |
weekender,
My previous might have sounded confusing to you..but from posting names oftn you cannot really tell if you are talking with a male or female..like TOD. I found out that this was Dot spelled backwards!! April/May something or other sounds like fun. We may find some others will want to join in. The local little group that I was out with the other night would like to join me for dinner at "Spring". Daniel should be in his new location by then. I will find out more when there for lunch on Thursday. I noticed that you stay at l'Abbaye in Paris. I stayed there some years back. A nice hotel, with a good following. Can be difficult to to get a reservation, at times. I have switched to apts...not that I cook..don't do that at home, so certainly not when in Paris! But, for longer stays..beginning with this one, to stay for a month at a time it is more comfortable. You can really get into the flow of Paris life with the longer stays. a bientot..... Joan |
Hello Joan, Yep, I'm a gal! Tried to get my own name on but it was already taken so I just did a swop around! Now, I want to know if your first name is Grace or Joan or if one is a surname OR both first names?
You look very nice at the GTG and see you are blond like me. I actually pictured you with dark hair so it was a nice surprise. Everyone looked more or less as I imagined them especially Cholmondley_Warner. I can see a Major General lurking in there! I was sorry no-one grabbed Gina's camera and got her in a photo too. She's a bit special to me as her birthday is on the same day as my husbands & I also had a daughter called Gina. Fancy meeting a person from across the world with so much in common? I don't think that happens very often! |
Hi Tod/Dot....We did have fun at the GTG.My posting is just my names backwards. Joan Grace. Having two first names for you name does cause confusion
What a nice day we had to day..the weather is so-so..be sure to bring warm closthes... We went to the Hotel Bristol High Tea/High Fashion Show..what a difference from yesterday..but this was the Bristol, high fashion designer and cost 50 euros! We had excellent seats. I was one of the first to reserve, I think. The high tea was very nice...the music was very nice, the fashion show was beautiful, beautiful...the models were also very lovely. I would definitely put it on your list. Just contact the Bristol online. Decisions, decisions now...think I may wander out.... a bientot,....Joan |
Thanks for the tip on the fashion show at Hotel Bristol being a cut above the rest. Never been to a show but you have got me thinking for next Paris visit................
Here I am (sitting just behind the pilot) you may like to put a face to the posts! http://tinyurl.com/4vjumq |
I would definitely add the Bristol Fashion show, if you are lucky enough for them to have one when you are there. Send an e-mail to them and ask to be notified when they come up. They would send me a notice every month.
Yes, good to put faces with people. How often do you go to Paris? I just returned from Cafe Constant. As you know, they do not take reservations and they do fill up. I probably arrived there about 7:15. By 8 a big line...same for Les Cocottes when I went by........ a bientot..... Joan |
Joan,
I've been enjoying your posts this month, especially all the latest on restaurants in the 7eme. I'm disappointed that we'll miss each other in Paris next spring (we don't arrive until May 28th), as we would love to dine with you. Well, let's hope someday... Enjoy the rest of your Parisian days and safe travels home. EJ ((#)) |
