I suppose this may not be the best place to get information. In fact, I am shocked that a source such as Fodors would allow these types of responses.

I was reading an old post from a Newman Pareker. They recommended the St. Vincent and Lumen hotels? Was he advertising?
|
brandonmd,
I for one don't think you were advertising because you asked for other recommendations. It's just some people here are a bit skeptical of others. I can't help you though due to the fact that Jay's is WAY out of my price range. As for Newman Parker, he/she was not advertising either. He/she was just wasting everybodys time and could not keep thier stories straight. I will top a thread for you so you can see what I mean. It is called something like 'Paris Hotel Choices! WOW!!!!' Tom PS I hope you get some positive feedback and welcome to Fodors. |
Brandonmd,
It can be frustrating here for a new poster, because of the "culture" that every forum has. Why not go about this from another tack? What are your needs? Perhaps, ignoring Tripadvisor, there is a better one for you. Location wise, it is not bad. But at that price range, you will have other choices, in other locations that could be closer to some of the sites you will want to see. You have not stated our criteria for a hotel. Is it location, price, amenities,etc.. By giving us these, we can then offer choices and comparisons. I'm not sure I'd just pick whatever hotel is #1 on any site, since my needs may not match whoever was reviewing that hotel. |
Brandon,
I was obviously not at all skeptical as I was the first person to answer your post. After taking a more careful look at the TripAdvisor reports, many are so over the top that they do invite skepticism. Back to the hotel, you are getting some good feedback--particularly the no elevator comment. And, if you want to look beyond Jay's Hotel, you've had several offers for advice but people are looking to hear more from you about your likes and dislikes. |
I am really new to this Forum and the only thing that struck me is what if the OP really did want to know and is not advertising. Do you guys feel bad for the insinuations and sarcasm thrown out. If it was me, it would certainly put me off ever coming back here and asking for help. Is there a certain amount of posts someone has to have on here before they are trusted or what? Everyone has to have a first post. I don't know, it just seemed kind of unfriendly.

I agree. I will pass on this site.

We would like to stay in a central location near museums, cafes, and restaurants. 300 EUR max per night would be good. A neighborhood with character, not so much business-like.
|
Brandonmd, this will get you many more replies. Given the way this thread has gone, however, it might be more fruitful (and really, I'm trying to be helpful) to start a whole new one with a heading such as "Need Paris hotel recommendation - no more than 300E per night"

My favorite arrondisements are the 5th and the 6th. I have not seen it in a few years but Hotel de Fleurie has a perfect location. You can walk the whole city from there.

These three hotels are around your price range--Relais Christine is higher but you might inquire about special rates by speaking with them directly and mentioning you will be staying 6 nights.
Have a look on their web sites. The hotels are on the Left Bank, walking distance to many museums, Notre Dame, etc. www.relais-saint-germain.com www.hotelabbayeparis.com www.relais-christine.com |
