Joan, Understand your "need" for Violin d'Ingres. I think you deserve a "season pass" there also.

Beachgirl, Joan et al...
I was reprieved! Shortly after I posted here that I was feeling guilty about not having time to try out Joan's Pottaka and about not returning to Le Petit Troquet, US Airways cancelled our flight home.

We could not believe it.

Thank goodness I had kept the 7th day on our week's apartment rental so that our study abroad daughter could have one more nice long bath before returning to her studio teeny shower for the rest of her stay; it meant the air cancellation did not cost us one additional cent for one night's lodging. Stranger still... we had only four billets left from our two trip carnets; we used those today. Perfect.

Therefore...
...we had lunch at Pottaka and made reservations for LP Troquet for this evening. Talk about Karma.

Shopping items today:
-Champagne, Picard frozen appetizers, etc for daughter's mini-soiree at our apartment with her friends
-Voltaren gel/patch for us old folks and daughter's young friend with bad knee

Best to all of you,

AZ

AZ....

Aren't you lucky! That worked out great for you. Did you enjoy Pottoka?? I hope they have the picture up some place that I gave them of the Pottoka horses!

Enjoy your evening and have a good flight home!

I have pics to post......

Wow, AZ. That is fortunate and you are lucky!!

What lovely yellow yolks in that perfectly cooked hardboiled egg? I just hate it when the yolks look green:)

framboise_et_rose Nov 29th, 2011 10:19 AM

Joan - more great meals to look forward to except the turkey meal, of course. The granddaughters tried to help me roast ours. One thing I remember is that the turkeys in Paris are smaller and moister but with brined turkey nowadays, it is not too bad here.

I am catching a cold but I hope it will not be too bad on Thursday when we fly out. We do have the premium seats so it will be more comfortable and we'll be able to sleep.

Will call you on the way from CDG. A tres bientot!

bisous,
Lilia

I'm drooling over that beautiful salad and the fish with the almonds-----maybe I should have eaten lunch!

BeachGirl247 Nov 29th, 2011 03:29 PM

Thanks Joan and Weekender. Sorry for the confusion and thank you for the email addresses as I haven't emailed L'Os a Moelle yet.

AZ, lucky you on having the apartment an extra day! Sounds like it was meant to be.

I want whatever the chocolate dish was served in the Staab pot!

frambroise, safe travels to you.

waterdog Nov 29th, 2011 03:37 PM

Joan,
On our way on Wednesday! Looking forward to experiencing Paris and its charms once again. See you soon.

gracejoan3 Nov 29th, 2011 03:48 PM

Beach Girl,

The chocolate was at Les Cocottes...

Looking forward to waterdogs arrival on Thursday and Lilia and Tom on Friday. They will be spending the night with me as their apartment will not be ready until Saturday....

Think I might go to Tina's for lunch tomorrow...

Chère Joan, Thank you so much for the updates! Perhaps I called the restaurant at the wrong time. I am so happy that they are open and hope to eat there again soon.

In the meantime, I look forward to living vicariously through your posts.

Merci mille fois,

Debra

Debra,

They don't seem to answer the phone all the time. He does not speak much English and I think just does not answer it.

Please check out Dr. Talbott's review of Stephanes new acquisition, a rave from a tough reviewer!

gracejoan3 Nov 30th, 2011 11:00 AM

Thanks Oakglen. I will do that. I wish Talbott would go to Reed, too!

framboise_et_rose Nov 30th, 2011 12:28 PM

Joan - love your lunch at Tina's. How come my carbonara never looked like that? See you in about 48 hours!

BeachGirl - thank you. The San Francisco fog is supposed to lift just about our flight time!

Oakglen - thanks, I will check Talbott's review as well.

PARIS, here I come!

RobertaL Nov 30th, 2011 05:32 PM

Have a wonderful trip framboise! Your l'Obe meal with Joan seems to be a tradition, take lots of pic ladies!

Joan, fyi, I'm a size 38 in boots...

gracejoan3 Nov 30th, 2011 09:45 PM

Roberta,

I will take note of your boot size. The ones above were a 36. Too bad, as you could have hopped on a plane and picked up a bargain??

Meeting Lloyd and JoAnn at 9....

I think a bit cooler this morning..not really light out at this time.

gracejoan3 Dec 1st, 2011 03:01 AM

Lloyd and JoAnn did arrive! We have now met one another after these many, many years! I see why we have communicated for so long now. Nice people. Many things in common. We had a cafe together in my little breakfast spot, walked past Pottoka, and down to Reed. They did meet Catherine Reed. We then came to my apartment, so they could see where I was staying and spent the time just chatting about so much! I will meet them outside their entrance door this evening at 6:45 and we will walk almost across the street to Cafe Constant for dinner together.
I will post some pics of my breakfast spot shortly...

Not even close but I do eat breakfast most days with a view of the Pyrenees!

Would they let me in in my jim-jams and slippies?

mimi710 Dec 1st, 2011 03:48 AM

Joan

We love your breakfast place and have been there many times. However, I can never remember the name of it. Have used Google street view "walking" down the street but can't see any name on it. We will be in the 7th on Monday for 9 days. Still trying to decide if I need a winter coat or something lighter. Thanks for all your reports. Love them.

gracejoan3 Dec 1st, 2011 04:08 AM

Nothing wrong with a Pyrenees view!!

Mimi..I think the name is Artisan Patisserie..
Have a good flight over..you will need a warm coat..especially if you like to do as we do by walking across the Seine and up Matignon, past the designer shops to Rond Point after dark(which comes early) to see all the lights and decorations..take a camera! We may see one another for breakfast.....

Joan, Love your little breakfast place! Is that the one on Rue Dominique? DH likes to go out early in morning to get bread and pastries for breakfast in our apartment so is it close to Kir?

gracejoan3 Dec 1st, 2011 06:03 AM

cornelius,

It is on St Dominique, directly across from the fountain..you know where that is? rue l'Exposition..Fables/Fontaine de Mars..very walkable...I am further down Bourdonnais..# 17..other side of Monttessuy..directly acros from ET and I walk it every day!!

cornelius01 Dec 1st, 2011 09:41 AM

Yes i am sure I know where it is as we walked that street many times when we stayed on Bourdonnaise. We love the chocolate shop Michel Chaudun on Universite which I think that is near Montessuy. I am reliving our trip again when I read your reports.

gracejoan3 Dec 1st, 2011 11:09 AM

We three went to Cafe Constant for dinner. We sat in my favorite spot beneath the stairwell!!Guess what..I forgot my camera. We did enjoy our dinner. None of us could handle dessert. They needed to get home for a good night's sleep as their guests will be arriving in the morning.

It actually seemed warmer tonight that earlier today..a bit breezy.

StCirq Dec 1st, 2011 11:19 AM

I've had many a breakfast treat from that place. Love it! Their breads are also very good.

YankyGal Dec 1st, 2011 11:58 AM

WHAT? No camera?! Joan, I think you deserve a night off now and then. :-) Thanks, love your pictures and stories.

And no, my breakfast place is not nearly as beautiful or appealing.

Laidback Dec 1st, 2011 12:01 PM

Joan I am pretty sure that the beautiful, belle epoque boulangerie/patisserie that you photographed is called "A La Fontaine de Mars". A good thing to know if you are staying close by is that it and the bakery beneath the Champagne apt. usually alternate closed times.

gracejoan3 Dec 1st, 2011 08:28 PM

Laidback is always full of good information! I did not know that the two alternated closing times. They put new tables in 'mine' rather recently.

Just checked Lilia and Tom's flight. Arriving a bit early!

I will not forget my camera this afternoon!!

Weather forecast (for what it's worth) has grey, possible showers for next couple of days..Temperatures OK. Nothing to spoil or 'doings'!!

I will go out to breakfast and then return home and wait for call that Lilia and Tom are on their way from the airport!

Marcy..and others..

There is to be a brocante on rue Cler on Sat/Sun Dec 10/11...

Good place for some Chrismas shopping...some porcelain knobs etc....

denisea Dec 2nd, 2011 02:49 AM

I hope you have a great time with Lillia and Tom. I am sorry to have missed that breakfast place.

One of the books I read recently talks about how local boulangeries will alternate open/close days and times as I believe that the French require a local boulangerie in each neighborhood to be open, so that they can have fresh bread every day.

LowCountryIslander Dec 2nd, 2011 11:48 PM

Joan...

Thank you for the brocante information. Always fun to explore! Mom and I arrived in Strasbourg yesterday afternoon. Mom rested while I made stops at tourism office, atm and Monoprix for some breakfast items. We have fantastic boulangerie right next door to our apartment here and had wonderful croissants this morning and a fromagerie just around the corner.

Strasbourg is really "decked out" in Christmas glory. Had wonderful dinner last night and will explore the cathedral here today. Weather is gray with sprinkling rain but not as cold as I anticipated!

Looking forward to seeing you next week! :-)

yum, Grace - the food looks great.

where did you eat? somewhere good to judge by the spelling!

mimi710 Dec 3rd, 2011 03:35 AM

Joan Thanks for the name of the Artisan Patisserie. Finally found it on street view Google. Maybe we will see you there one day! Thanks also for the heads up about a winter coat. We love the cold weather but want to avoid freezing at night while out and about. Pretrip nerves today. Leaving tomorrow.

cornelius01 Dec 3rd, 2011 05:33 AM

Now that looked like an amazing meal.....The scallop presentation is awesome! I would definitely eat that. Where was this?
