Joan, We went to Reed last night. Catherine Reed is a lovely person and the food was great. I told her you were on a mission to get the word out and I shall certainly follow your lead in making Catherine a Fodors "poster child".

My daughter will go back after we leave with her "foodie" buddy.

Thank you for the suggestion--it was a perfect setting to reconnect with our daughter after so many months apart.

gracejoan3 Nov 24th, 2011 11:12 PM

Alessandra,

I'm so glad that you had a nice time at Reed. Probably a good spot to be able to visit more with your daugher.

We had a great evening at Violon..then stopped into Cafe Constant for a Cafe Creme.

Just had a message from Florent..he says he feels like a zombie this morning...going to be a long work day for him!! I think he was a bit high last night!!

Will get to pics. They did have a rolled and tied menu for us and I forgot it. Just sent a message to see if they might have one for us. Wanted to take a picture of it for all to see!

Our Thansgiving at Violon was just wonderful...and we did have turkey for the main course.
The first item (amuse) was a little ravioli withfrog legs in a broth of some kind. The entree was scallops with truffle and a little green salad. The main course was roasted turkey with celery root purée. Our dessert was a pumpkin tart, followed by madelines (I think...too full to eat) and chocolats. We had a red and a white wine (Pouilly Fusee). I can't remember the red (at least not now wine was.

Florent and Michel are tons of fun-great guys.

TPAYT Nov 25th, 2011 06:57 AM

I can't believe I'm looking at food pictures when last night I swore I'd never eat again, but I had to check in and see the Paris version of Thanksgiving.

It looks like everyone had a happy "bird day"----I especially liked the looks of the scallops.

Printemps Nov 25th, 2011 08:10 AM

Bonjour Joan,

Reading your posts is such a great way to start my day. Your Thanksgiving dinner looked wonderful, right from the 'get-together' to the last bite at the restaurant. Thanks for sharing your good times with us. It is such a pleasure to follow along.

gracejoan3 Nov 25th, 2011 08:58 AM

printemps,

It is fun to do it this way! This thread has just been fun for all. Everyone is happy and interested in the same things. None of the hassles that seem to go along on the general posting. We are all learning from one another!

Thank you Joan,

I have been traveling along with you for two years now and have been to a few of your favorites places in paris because of your wonderful pictures and travelog.

Enjoy the rest of your stay in Paris, also our favorite city.

lainie2285 Nov 25th, 2011 04:42 PM

Oh,I am getting so excited looking at your pictures, and reading your reports. We are coming back to our favorite city in June,trip#8,I can't wait to try Reed, and all the other suggestions.Thanks.

Took my sister out for her birthday tonight. All your pics made me chose a French restaurant, of course. Hope your ears weren't ringing because while enjoying bottle of cliquot, we talked about your current adventures! We've already started planning our next trip...

Joan
I enjoyed your pictures of your Thanksgiving. It looked like you had a great time along with delicious food. I chose a restaurant in Houston called Philippe for our Thanksgiving Dinner. Yes, it is French!!!. I had scallops for my main and our grandaughter was the only one to choose the turkey dinner.

chutney Nov 27th, 2011 03:56 AM

Joan,
I have been following along as well. We will be in Paris in September. I tried to google the contact information for Reed, but can't find anything. Do you have a phone number and address? We would like to add it to our list. Thank you! So glad you are having such a good time!

gracejoan3 Nov 27th, 2011 06:39 AM

chutney,

Catherine Reed does not have a website. You will find several things if you google Reed restaurant, rue amelie, Paris. Her e-mail address is [email protected] telephone number is 01 45 55 88 40. Closed Sun/Mon.

It is a re-freshing new place.

AlessandraZoe Nov 27th, 2011 08:42 AM

Joan, Did you say somewhere that Catherine Reed had considered giving cooking lessons? I can't find that remark. Reason I ask is that my daughter here will get as one of her Christmas presents Paris cooking lessons for her and a guest. She and I had taken classes with Cooking with Class, and I thought I would just repeat that, but I think Catherine would be wonderful.

And yes, daughter also is getting as other present dinner at Violon d'Ingres for herself and guest. You have to tell me if I should splurge for the tasting menu though! Three courses were just fine, but...

kerouac Nov 27th, 2011 09:01 AM

Sorry about the turkey when there are so many better things to eat in Paris. ;-)

gracejoan3 Nov 27th, 2011 09:07 AM

kerouac..

Turkey is the tradition for American Thanksgiving..that is the reason for it!!

gracejoan3 Nov 27th, 2011 09:10 AM

AZ,

I think Catherine has had some thoughts of cooking classes. You might e-mail her and ask about it. Maybe your daughter could get a small group together and she would do one.

Trophywife007 Nov 27th, 2011 05:00 PM

I'm loving your trip, Joan. Thanks for letting us all in on the ride!

RobertaL Nov 27th, 2011 05:21 PM

My favorite thing about Joan is that she gets to spend approximately 2 months in Paris, twice a year. One day, I may be as fortunate. Joan knows exactly where she's staying, where she's dining and with whom she's socializing. This isn't a thread where the OP is asking for advice. We are happy spectators, peeking in on Joan's Parisian getaway. I'm taking notes, so my upcoming trip is as great as my first.

Just like Trophywife said, thanks for letting us all in on the ride! If some don't enjoy or agree with the route, hop off (and please don't let the door hit you in the...).

Joan,
Thanks so much for the information!

Bonjour Joan -

Are you planning on eating at La Taverna during this trip? I am wondering if it is still open - when I was in Paris in June I tried to call to make a reservation but got no answer. If you do happen to walk by the restaurant would you please post an update? I'll never forget the strawberry risotto I ate there one June evening...but the risotto at Le Florimond has been coming in a very close second lately.

I don't have any plans to go to Paris until 2013 but your posts are getting me thinking...and scheming.

Thanks again for sharing your trip with us all.

The one and only comment I made was about turkey, simply because a duck thanksgiving would be so much better. :-p (perhaps preceded by a plateau de fruits de mer...)

gracejoan3 Nov 27th, 2011 10:09 PM

Debra...Yes, La Taverna is open. In fact there is an evening with photos and all when Florent, Michael and I went there. They had not been and they did enjoy. I was just thinking of them and of going again.I will stop by there today maybe.

Kerouac...I agree about the duck and plateau de fruits de mer...but tradition is tradition.!

I have been to some 20 or so different and some new to me restaurants this trip. Did not realize so many until I started thinking about it. I do have some more to get to, hopefully.

Just passed Pottaka today and felt guilty we didn't visit this trip. Joan had spoken so highly of them. Then passed P'tit Troquet and felt guilty I had not returned--they had been so kind to me and my daughters on past trips.

Therefor, strictly from a moral stance, I should return to Paris within a fortnight.

gracejoan3 Nov 28th, 2011 08:09 AM

Debra,

I did walk by La Taverna today. They are closed for lunch on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

I think my plans are changing a bit. I need to come back to Paris late January, so think I will just stay on for a couple months at that time instead of going home and then returning mid March. Seeme to make more sense. Last year March was very mild and April was hot. I was here in April. Then it got cold in mid summer..so who knows the weather anymore.

I do some some more pics to post and will get to them. Have friends arriving both Thursday and Friday..

Denise and Chaz left today...

Weather still holding up....

Will coming back so soon put you over a 90 day stay within 6 months?
Happy to hear about the weather....we plan to be there this time next year!

AlessandraZoe Nov 28th, 2011 12:18 PM

Joan,

Le Casse Noix was superb. Husband pronounced it his favorite of this trip.

However, he still told me to buy daughter "season pass" to Violon d'Ingres.

Agree that you should stay on Paris ground as our cub reporter for as long as possible.

Leaving tomorrow,

AZ

kerouac Nov 28th, 2011 12:22 PM

Indeed, the weather has become totally unpredictable. November has been one of the warmest in history (and even so, not all that great). If ever December turned out to be like last December, it would snow for half of the days of the month!

BeachGirl247 Nov 28th, 2011 12:32 PM

I'm glad to hear the weather is still a warmer than normal. I could use a warmer December visit to Paris as last year was windy and colder than usual. Our son & fiancé just returned and said the weather was wonderful and most days he didn't require a jacket. How nice!

Safe travels AlessandraZoe!

@ Joan, I've emailed Schmidt L'Obe through the hotel website but I am not having any luck with responses yet. Lunch or dinner? Do you recommend one over the other?

I'll send another one today as it's not a problem. If no answer I'll have AMEX call to make the reservation for me since my int'l dialing isn't turned on yet.
