Should I just do another clue, and if Harzer eventually comes back and tells me I'm wrong the worst that happens is we'll have two words going at the same time? I will be away from computers for several hours later today, so if I don't do it soon, i can't until around 9 p.m.

The "v" of Ravensburg becomes the 5th letter of an 8-letter name for an old silk town that is the site of a goose festival.

harzer Aug 4th, 2003 05:20 PM

Well done cmt!

Poe's Raven(s) plus 'grub' spelt backwards give Ravensburg.

Betty1 Aug 4th, 2003 06:41 PM

cmt, is your town Vigevano?

LVSue Aug 4th, 2003 06:47 PM

Oh, I hope so, Betty1. I'm tired of reading about the Nottingham Goose Fair (though it does sound fun).

cmt Aug 4th, 2003 06:49 PM

Yes, Vigevano! It's a town I never heard of until a week or two ago, but friends who live near there have been telling me about it.

Good timing, too. I just got back online.

Betty1 Aug 4th, 2003 07:20 PM

Yeah! I got one that isn't in France! (Thanks to google I know every place in the world that you can buy silk comforters stuffed with goose down!)

OK, don't hit me on the head for this one. Many pilgrims stopped here (and still do) to view the stolen relics.
7 letters, third one is N.

We're having a storm here, so I'm shutting down my computer and going to bed. Will check back first thing in the morning.

LVSue Aug 4th, 2003 09:28 PM

Now, if it were 6 letters, I'd say London. :-)

harzer Aug 4th, 2003 11:35 PM

How about Santiago (de Compostela)?

Betty1 Aug 5th, 2003 03:27 AM

One letter too many, harzer, but you're on the right path.

Betty1 Aug 5th, 2003 12:16 PM

Are we tiring of the game or is my last one too hard? In case it's the latter let me say that I seem to be stuck in the same general area of France. If there are no further guesses by tonight I'll reveal my answer and then just let this die a natural death.

cmt Aug 5th, 2003 02:07 PM

I can't play during the work day, unless I can come up with the answer immediately without doing any research (not likely). People will come and go on the thread. I still like the game, but I just haven't gotten around to thinking about your clue.

Betty1 Aug 5th, 2003 02:49 PM

OK, cmt, I'll just leave it a bit, unless someone asks for another hint.

kismetchimera Aug 5th, 2003 03:09 PM

Conques

harzer Aug 5th, 2003 04:00 PM

Betty, I wasn't really on the right track, was I? You don't need to be so charitable. I've never heard of Conques, I'm afraid, and am most unlikely ever to go there, although I see from the map that I wasn't far away in 1964 when i passed through the Gorges du Tarn.

Betty1 Aug 5th, 2003 04:38 PM

You got it, kismetchimera! And harzer, yes, you were on the right "path" (fr. "chemin") since Conques was, and is, one of the stops for pilgrims en route to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
BTW, did you get my "don't hit me (conk me) on the head" clue? (You may groan now.)
According to legend a 9th century monk from Conques stole the relics of Sainte Foy from the community in Agen where she was martyred.

So, over to you, kc.

kismetchimera Aug 5th, 2003 06:26 PM

I actually got one!!! Tomorrow is going to snow in texas!!:)
ok, I try ...
.7 letters building from the letter N, which is in 6 place..
I am famous for many things, but i was the first to have this honor...

annettetx Aug 6th, 2003 05:10 AM

If it was one letter shorter, I'd have thought it was Athens...
Bummer.
Annette

kismetchimera Aug 6th, 2003 05:37 AM

another clue......the 7 letter is A..

kismetchimera Aug 6th, 2003 01:18 PM

Is everyone in vacation?
