Need HELP from my SHOPPING FRIENDS: Best place to find southern French- or southern Italian-style tablecloth/linens??
 

Hi Everybody,

Since I won't be able to make it to Europe in the near future, I was wondering where you might recommend that I find nice tablecloths and linens for my home. I LOVE the Provence style, as well as the Southern Italian style.

I am based in NYC, but perhaps the internet would be even better to purchase these things?

I have seen beautiful tablecloths from Italian designer LISA CORTI. However, I don't necessarily need a "name designer", just pretty linens that will last and bring a smile to my face every day.

I bought a tablecloth and napkins at Geneviève Lethu in Paris on our last trip. I haven't looked, but maybe they have a website?

Williams Sonoma actually sells some. The pattern is called Provence and comes in a few colorways. Here's a link to the blue.

Pierre Deux has probably the largest selection. They have a catalog

but also a shop in Manhattan. The website says it's at 625 Madison but it seems to me I saw they had moved somewhere near Bloomingdales so check before going.

Souleiado, probably the largest maker of Provencal-type fabrics, has a Web site in the USA:

The Pierre deux shops have the real thing there are several places you can find on google if you type in Provence.

Whereas Williams Sonoma has "provencal style" table linens, I think you will find few if any actually made in France.

Pierre Deux is the American "branch" of Souleiado.

I have the Wm Sonoma that I use for outdoors, they are made in India. The Pieerre Dux ones are expensive, tho I bought them on sale. I use them for holidays or guests. I did find on line(what I should have bought in Provence)
the treated cotton ones that you can wipe clean. But My favorite on-line Provençal shop went out of business.
I bought a few before, now I wish I had orderd more.

I know, Mimi; I love those treated ones, especially for family get-togethers with toddlers (and adults--with red wine!)

The Souleiado Web site mentioned above says that they carry plasticized fabrics.

if you type in provencal linens there are many more so you can compare prices.

Where ever you find the linens make sure they are actually made in France, I searched for some to carry in in my store and many that I found were made in India.

The treated tablecloths are indeed wonderful--I'm using one for Thanksgiving. I bought it last year in Nice at a small shop opposite L'Ecurie restaurant: blue and olive green and rust--perfect for fall.
