Hi Betty, I am in France in one week. I certainly plan to check out the table cloths. I will tell you I bought very nice imported provence tablecloths at TJ Max for $50. They were higher in cost about a year ago but came down. THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL and I gave them as gifts. One sister saw the gift at another sister's house and asked me how much I paid where I bought blah blah blah. Then after my answer she said, yeah I saw them there too.

Just check it out might save you some space in your suit case LOL.

Hi Sarah,

Unfortunately no TJ MAxx in Manhattan...but interestingly enough...the prices on these websites for French tablecloths are often in the $40 to $50 range.

Hi mc!

But does this branch carry Provencal tablecloths??

keldar Nov 15th, 2005 02:48 PM

Hi Betty:
Check out this delightful little shop in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. L'esprit de Provence sells all kinds of beautiful Provencal and Tuscan tablecloths.(and lots of other stuff from France and Italy)
I just purchased a tablecloth last week and love it. They carry all sizes ,lots of colours and styles including cotton, linen, manosque, childrens , scotchgard or teflon coated acrylic coated and plastique. Their products came in solids ,toile ,multi toile, florals, ble ,sirsa ,stripes etc. They told me they ship anywhere. Their website is www.tablecloths.com Their toll free line is 888 468 1817.
Good luck

Hi Keldar,

Tried to get on tablecloths.com but the site is not working. Maybe they went out of business?

aj Nov 18th, 2005 05:48 AM

Sorry I have not read all the names given but try quelobject.com They have lovely french linens and cloths. I love all the bright colors. I did get very lucky once at TJ Max and purchased a verly large french table cloth at a LOW price.

Hi Betty70, TJ Maxx is hit or miss. But it's worth checking it out. If you don't mind going to Woodbury commons, there's a store there that's right beside Crate and Barrel that sells provence style linens. They also have a Williams and Sonoma outlet store. Good luck!

Hi Betty:

I am sorry, the website address was incomplete. I am just checking it now and it's working fine so here it is this time the complete one. (I must not have had my glasses on :) )

Thanks for that website cigalechanta.
I had bougt the "pre-cut" round, in both the treated material for outside, and cotton for inside in Bezier, at the end of a canal du midi trip, and have wanted more ever since!

Betty, when I was in NYC last week I stopped by the temporary shops on Bryant Park behind the ice rink. I don't recall seeing French linens but they had other items - lovely candles, bath products. The sales person told me they have a store in Soho. You might give the store a try to see if they have any linens. I cannot remember the name of the store but I think it was Ecco. If you find out, let me know. I would like to see if they have an online store because I loved the candles with berries on them. Should have bought them.

The cloths at Tj and Sonoma are made in India. If you google Provençal tablecloths there are many. My source here for the treated ones was French Country but are no longer in business.. For real oil cloth that I leave out in the rain, I buy at Vermont country store.(made in the USA)It comes in blue/white, red/white checks and a fruit design.

Mimi, isn't it too bad that French Country Living went out of business? I loved that catalog and the products.

I went to the TJ Maxx in NYC yesterday and boy -- what chaos! I do not usually have luck in these stores where you have to wade through endless piles...

Will order online instead. The prices seemed quite reasonable. Cheers!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!! --Betty (NYC)

Happy New Year Betty! Are you still thinking of moving west?

bettyo70 Dec 30th, 2005 09:08 AM

Hi mclaurie!

Yes, moving to Los Angeles on January 30, 2006 due to acting career.

Moving farther away from France and Italy (sniff, sniff)...but definitely hope to visit there when we get a chance. Have relatives in Italy.

Cheers!

There is a catalogue called Sur La Table that use to have those tablecloths. I actually bought the ones at TJ MAXX and mine were made in France! If you have a Marshalls or HomeStore, give them a try.
