I can't believe that no one has suggested the old 60's movie "Fanny" with many great French actors including Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier. It was always one of my favorite movies, but maybe it isn't so much about Paris as it is about France. But rent it anyway. I have never been to Paris and only once in France, but it seemed very "French" and also romantic, funny, charming...

You laugh, you cry, PERFECT, no?

Oh, one more, the old Moulin Rouge with Mel Ferrar as Talouse, and Zsa Zsa as a can can girl. Very well done movie. Has always been a favorite.

Of course I LOVE the new one, but the old one has its charm...

Last Tango in Paris.

Only because it hasn't been mentioned.

This has just inspired me to sign up for Netflix.

AnthonyGA Feb 26th, 2006 01:53 AM

You'll enjoy the films much more after you return from Paris, not before you leave.

Beatchick Feb 26th, 2006 03:30 AM

Nikki, I LOVE Netflix!

isabel Feb 26th, 2006 04:20 AM

I love Netflix too, but I just put in many of these titles mentioned in this thread and there's an awful lot that Netflix doesn't have. They have all the major English language ones, and a few of the French language, but there were quite a few I couldn't find. Maybe if we all start emailing them with requests they'll stock some more.

Beatchick Feb 26th, 2006 06:10 AM

Ooh, I forgot 1997's Déjà Vu with Victoria Foyt & 1995's Sabrina - 2 of the best films for Paris scenes!

Like Dina, I LOVE The Last Time I Saw Paris!

martytravels Feb 26th, 2006 06:20 AM

The Truth About Charlie - shows a Paris that most visitors never see, such as the flea market at Clignancourt. And if you're staying at Hotel Langlois, the hotel is featured prominently.

Also, the Beat My Heart Skipped and Amelie, of course.

LuckyLuc Feb 26th, 2006 06:49 AM

Le dernier métro, by Truffaut. If it does not have Catherine, it is not a French film.

Also 8 Femmes, with eight of the greatness comédiennes.

DejaVu Feb 26th, 2006 08:43 AM

Three more Audrey Hepburns: Love in the Afternoon, How to Steal a Million, and Funny Face. Only a diehard Audrey Hepburn fan could make it (and even then just barely) through the mess that is "Paris when it Sizzles."

I took my screen name from the film Deja Vu that Beatchick mentioned. I love that movie. The Paris scenes are short but sweet.

Beatchick Feb 26th, 2006 08:48 AM

I agree with Deja Vu regarding Paris when it Sizzles - boring.

Dejais Feb 26th, 2006 08:57 AM

Okay, even though only the end is in Paris (but WHAT a great scene on the Pont Alexander III) how about Something's Gotta Give? That, the last episode of Sex & The City, and Forget Paris are on my week-before list.

Also Head in The Clouds with Charlize Theron is a good "Paris" movie.

Beatchick Feb 26th, 2006 09:03 AM

Dejais, I ate at Le Grand Colbert & had roast chicken! Something's Gotta Give is a great movie!

brotherleelove2004 Feb 26th, 2006 09:09 AM

Audrey Tatou's film "Amelie"

cigalechanta Feb 26th, 2006 09:33 AM

How could we have forgotton "Last Tango in Paris?"

There's an old Bridget Bardot film, "Shall we Dance" Serge Gainsbourg plays a young creepin this light mystery.

pat Feb 26th, 2006 09:44 AM

Love "Until September" but it is definitely a chick flick! Scenes around Paris, but also, the countryside.

wanderlust5 Feb 26th, 2006 10:44 AM

I agree, Until September is a fantastic movie. It is an old film, but just came out on DVD. Yeah!.

If you like action/suspense, there is also "Frantic" starring Harrison Ford. It's excellent.

Another film, another action/suspense, with Gene Hackman, is "Target". It is another fantastic film.

For a campy movie, "If Looks Could Kill" is cute and funny.

Also, "The Fatal Image" is another thriller.

gomiki Feb 26th, 2006 10:59 AM

I don't think I saw Le Divorce mentioned. If you don't want to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower this is about as close to doing it as you can get.

cigalechanta Feb 26th, 2006 11:17 AM

Wow, happy to see so many film lovers here. I'll be seeing The Pink panther today and though no great reviews, a frind says the Paris scenes are good.
