Is your "Desktop" a travel pic?

If so, which one and is it one of your own or someone elses? Does it reflect somewhere you've been or someplace you are planning to go to next?

I've recently purchased a new computer and in transferring some of my travel photos to the new system I got to check out some past trips I've not looked at in a year or so. Thus, on my desktop is a really cool interior shot of Le Bistro de Paradou, (in Paradou) where we had a delightful lunch back in May 2003. Having recently moved, I now wish I'd waited to purchase a new dining room table and tried to find one of those nifty marble topped tables on glossy black wrought iron base.....ah well, I'll have to just be satisfied with the memories!

francophile03 Aug 21st, 2005 11:49 AM

Yes, it's my own photo of Notre Dame in Paris. It reflects a place I've visited quite a few times and wish to return to continuously.

elsiejune Aug 21st, 2005 11:53 AM

Yes, it's my own photo of the Eiffel Tower. It was taken May 2005 while strolling back from dinner and shows the tower against a beautiful pink sky reflecting the day's end. I smile each time my computer turns on. ((#))

We sure do have one- View of Bay of Sorrento from our hotel's terrace. It's a picture we took.

Funny, we went to the Bistro du Paradou in July, 2003 and absolutely loved it-both the food and the ambiance.

ms_go Aug 21st, 2005 11:57 AM

Yes. Right now it's a picture of the sunset over Riga that I took last month -

http://community.webshots.com/photo/...09559222jVkBts

But I change it every week or so. And my screensaver is a rotating slideshow of pictures from various trips.

faredolce Aug 21st, 2005 12:05 PM

It is always a travel picture, sometimes one of mine and sometimes not, sometimes a place I have been and others a place I long to go.

Right now, I have a picture of the Sicilian countryside that I downloaded from National Geographic website. They have great pictures you can use for your desktop.

francophile03 Aug 21st, 2005 12:15 PM

This is the photo:

Of course, and I change it weekly. Currently, it is spring flowers in Sicily.

Mine is a picture of the house that we have rented in Uzès. I've left some of my soul in that town.

Usually it is -- either one of mine from a recent trip or one I've found on the internet. Sometimes it's the grandkids -- but right now it is a shot from MARCH OF THE PENGUINS.

Sunset over Lake Como from Bellagio - silvery reflections glittering in the water in front of blue mountains.

uhoh_busted Aug 21st, 2005 12:55 PM

This is fun! I realised I needed to post this picture someplace so I could provide a url to share (hope this works!):

I use a close up facial picture of a monkey staring at me from the balcony of my room in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It was on our way home from a Medical releif visit to The East of Sri Lanka after the Tsunami disaster of Dec 2004.

Joelleinitaly04 Aug 21st, 2005 01:01 PM

I have picture of the bay in Sorrento I took last May.

the wall paper isn't a travel picture, a close up picture of my cat's face. However, my screen saver is of my pictures of my London Trip, the first trip that I went digital and made it easy to use the pictures as screen saver.

isabel Aug 21st, 2005 01:21 PM

Oh definitly. I use my own photos and change them whenever I feel like it. My screen saver is a rotating set of about 25 of my photos.

My current desktop is: http://www.pbase.com/annforcier/image/47922974
which is the view we had from our hotel room terrace in Taormina last month.

It's been fun looking at eveyone's desktop choices.

alfisol Aug 21st, 2005 01:31 PM

My home desktop is usually a new picture of my dog.

The work desktop changes as trips get planned and after the trip ends. Right now, it's not one of my own travel pictures, but is "The Kiss" by Klimt to remind me of my recent trip to Vienna. "The Kiss" was so overused on Vienna souvenirs that I couldn't help but want it on my desktop!

Simone1 Aug 21st, 2005 01:58 PM

I have a picture of the lake in Estes Park, CO. It’s been years since I lived there but oh, how I miss those mountains.

Of course, I change it every so often to Venice and Paris. Life must go on, and the thirst for travel is never quenched.

Lol Robespierre, I’d have nightmares looking at your desktop.

L84SKY Aug 21st, 2005 02:05 PM

I use my travel photos in my screen saver but my desktop is a picture of my dog. Priorities, ya know.

Surfergirl Aug 21st, 2005 02:11 PM

Yes indeed! Home is Full moon in Positano that my son took (incredible!) and the office has a photo we took of the Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day with the fireworks going off.

Marianna Aug 21st, 2005 02:18 PM

Yes, right now it is a gorgeous sunset view from the living room in the Villa Bouganville in Massa Lubrense. We stayed there a few years ago and I still dream about it. Wish I could be there right now!

I will alternate between that one and a spectacular view of the Bay of Naples from the Il Frutetto also in Massa Lubrense. Just beautiful! I keep dreaming!

ilovetulips Aug 21st, 2005 02:35 PM

Yes, I recently saved a picture that we took of Notre Dame on my computer at work. My computer has a picture taken by someone else(probably a Fodor's poster, I don't remember) of a street in the Latin Quarter. It always makes me smile when I think of everything we saw in Paris.

P_M Aug 21st, 2005 02:43 PM

Of course!! At home my desktop has a pic I took of a lovely summer day in Bergen, Norway. At work I have my favorite pic of my Swiss hiking trip. It's Klein Scheidegg, where I had a stop on my way up Jungfrau.

Robespierre, that's the ugliest desktop pic I've ever seen--but funny as heck!! I might just borrow that someday when I'm in a bad mood. LOL!! :-))

cigalechanta Aug 21st, 2005 03:05 PM

yes, a photo of Angles Sur L'Anglin, a village fleuri in Poitou near friends in the department of the Vienne.
I had notecards made with the photo I snapped outside the Bistro du Paradou and a framed poster Jean-Louis gave me that someone had painted of the outside.
I'll visit next week to both places again.

uhoh_busted Aug 21st, 2005 06:49 PM

ah, have a wonderful time!

Jocelyn_P Aug 21st, 2005 07:01 PM

Is your desktop a travel pic? Why, of COURSE it is, silly!

Mine is a picture of Lake Garda, as seen from a lakeside cafe in Riva.

Beatchick Aug 21st, 2005 07:07 PM

Oh wow, these are great! Actually, my desktop is usually a painting by Luidmila Kondakova. I bought a screensaver from www.SecondNature.com with a bunch of Paris paintings by her. You can see her paintings here:
http://www.chalk-vermilion.com/kondakova_frameset.html

The paintings are beautiful & evoke that sense of Paris but the funny thing is that many of the details don't coincide. For instance, she has a painting of Chez Julien but the sign on the side of the building says Rue St-Julien-le-Pauvre (in the Latin Quarter) while the real Chez Julien is on the rue des Barres in the Marais. Still, they're pretty.

My screensaver is a montage of my travel photos; mostly Paris & Cincinnati. But the desktop of Luidmila changes daily on its own.

Diane, what a great photo (and a great thread)!

Beatchick Aug 21st, 2005 07:10 PM

Isabel, you're Ann Forcier? Your photos are STUNNING!

Could you e-mail me? I need to ask you a question.

Thanks & ciao!

djkbooks Aug 21st, 2005 09:54 PM

Here's another huge recommendation for Webshots. You can instantly make a fabulous screensaver with your own photos.

kauai_aka Aug 21st, 2005 10:12 PM

the Monastery of Montserrat, Spain, taken from webshots. my kid accidently removed it and it took an hour looking for it. pic has been on my desktop for almost a year. won't change it for anything. ahhh, wish to visit someday...

worldinabag Aug 22nd, 2005 02:04 AM

Yeah this is mine - http://img20.imagevenue.com/img.php?...01_hammock.jpg. I think it's either Bali or Phuket.

And of course Santorini http://img34.imagevenue.com/img.php?...santorini2.jpg

I have both wallpaper and screensavers. Windows XP has the option to use whatever is in the 'My Pictures' folder as a slideshow screensaver. I also have a programme from www.wallpaperchanger.de that changes the wallpaper every time I log on, from a selection of my favourite photos. I've also put a lot into my work computer, so my screensaver attracts many intrigued comments from my colleagues.

RufusTFirefly Aug 22nd, 2005 03:27 AM

No, I have Jack Bailey and Mrs. Hanley.

Though I do have the shortcut for a webcam in Venice on my PC desktop--I check it out several times a day.

Ralstonlan Aug 22nd, 2005 03:36 AM

Since we are leaving for Italy in 48 hours and our first stop is Venice, it is my picture of my son, 9 at the time, in Piazza San Marco. He is now 11 , so I will update his picture on Thursday!

sallyjane3 Aug 22nd, 2005 04:05 AM

Always my own pics, almost always my travel pics. Last week it was one of my daughters and me in Venice. Right now it's a shot of Edinburgh, taken from the Castle. Ahhhhhhh.

willit Aug 22nd, 2005 04:25 AM

I have the same software as PatrickLondon, and switch my backgrounds every 15 minutes or so. I find travel shots both restful, and a constant reminder of where I have been.

Usually I keep a folder of pictures from my last holiday, but If it has been too long between breaks, then I jave a selection of my favourite shots from various trips. Currently showing this photo:

At the moment it's a photo we took at the Bridge of Flowers on our way to the Berkshires this spring; alternating are photos of Co. Wicklow gardens...

Mine is a beautiful picture of the old town of Le Mans, France, which I found on the net once. It reminds me of France and how much I miss it and of the wonderful day I had in Le Mans last April.
