I live in Manhattan and make all too many visits to my dentist whose office is in the heart of "tourist land.". The only difference I notice between "them" and "me" is that my sneakers are black and theirs are more colorful. Also, the couples hold hands. ( My husband only holds my hand when he grabs it to race for a taxi.....(sometimes.)

grandma, :) so true. Americans need "space," I get loads of kisses (happily) that would never happen here except among my friends.

I've been vacationing in Paris almost annually since the mid 70s and as far as clothing goes in Paris...it's not about having to own a Hermes scarf...although I do because I love Hermes scarves(they are works of art) or about owning any other designer item, but more about just not looking frompy...like sweatshirts and sweatpants and that sloppy look...not that all sweatshirts and sweatpants are sloppy...but I say leave them at home. It's about looking classy, but not pretentious...like San Francisco about a decade or longer ago...when there was a very classy look. I live in Southern California so I don't pack all of the kinds of clothes I wear in Southern California, but pack the more classic things. But, I absolutely love to dress and dress up since I grew up doing it, so it's not difficult for me to change gears quickly...as far as clothing and style goes. I'd say choose 3-4 basic solid colors and you'll be fine. Plus it's easier to coordinate if you stick to the basics. And throw in a few scarves. And I agree with the cashmere sweater comment above... as I only pack cashmere sweaters which are as light as a feather, but warm. You'll be fine.Have a great trip...Happy Travels!
