obxgirl,

Maybe you'd have to know our front desk person...We all love her, but she keeps a local news page resident on her computer, so thanks to her frequent news bulletins,we're always among the first to know when there's been a shooting, stabbing, 5-car pileup, or weird jury verdict.

As Ira wrote, it's all about priorities. I hardly ever watch TV, except for The Amazing Race, of course. Not watching television frees up a lot of time.

I was going to say theres nothing good on TV at nite, but I used to read alot more in the evenings before I found this site. But, what it comes down to is yes, it is a matter of priorities. I have a home business that I can do anytime but seems like I do it lots of nites after midnight because I get sucked into Fodors and get down to business.

Clifton, tell me more about the wireless thing.

PamSF Sep 13th, 2004 11:51 PM

I don't post from work..but do post often after evenings of work in an ICU.
It's a great way to unwind. Besides which, I can't help myself..Hello my name is Pam and I am a Fodorite!

Gee some people have good jobs. I think my conscience would rebel. Consequently I usually do this at night. It helps that TV is such crap these days!

Two words - jet lag.

hi Marilyn. Well, our wireless setup is pretty simple really. I should have said, "where ever we go on property". I sat up the house so that it's basically a secured wi-fi access point tied to our broadband internet connection, by way of wireless router. So then we can wander around the house or out to the pool with the laptops connected.

I did check out a very cool setup the other day that connects your laptop via wireless card to an uplink module on a mobile phone that seemed to work pretty well. More toys... hmmm... hehe

Still sorry to be missing that GTG. My timing, as usual!

SuzieC Sep 14th, 2004 05:14 AM

well... I'm a mere flunky. Politically correctly referred to as a Paralegal... I am on the telephone and "on hold" A LOT

Anybody need a really really good personal assistant? I can tote the bags...?

ms_go Sep 14th, 2004 05:21 AM

I'm another in the self-employed club, doing freelance work mostly from my home -- where my biggest decision daily is usually which 'desk' I'll use: the real one in the office, the one at my kitchen island, or the one at the table on our back deck (aren't wireless networks great?). I often stop by here for a little diversion when I'm having writer's block. Thinking about travel is usually enough to get the old brain going again. So, back to work I go....

rex Sep 14th, 2004 05:52 AM

Same dependence on wireless connection as Clifton here. Take nothing to learn how to set this up, Marilyn... just go to Best Buy or Circuit City or CompUSA and let them know what you have for (broadband) internet - - you'll need a wireless router (sometimes also called an "access point"), and a wireless "card" for each computer in your home (primarily logical for laptops, but relevant for desktops also).

You can be up and mobile in minutes.

dan_woodlief Sep 14th, 2004 06:08 AM

I don't have a lot of time. That is why I am not on here as much now. I sneak in a look here and there during short breaks in my work but try to post more at home.

Marilyn Sep 14th, 2004 08:54 AM

Thanks Clifton and Rex. I thought you meant wireless on the go, not on the property. I'm about to buy some tiny little weightless computer and thought not having to really "connect" when traveling would be cool. It's coming, I know.

(Clifton, so far it's just Anne and me, but we'll miss you!)

Though I have worked most recently as a children's library in a grade school, a substitute teacher, and a reading aide, I'm home now, and I enjoy it. I have time to take walks, read, and spend time on the computer. It also allows me to go to Paris and visit our kids and granddaughter when my husband has free time.

Best,
Sandy

sandypaws3 Sep 14th, 2004 09:26 AM

Sorry... that should have read,
"as a children's librarian" or "in a children's library"... not "as a children's library." That'll teach me to preview my reply :-)

ThinGorjus...are you really Patsy Sloane?

stormygirl Sep 14th, 2004 03:56 PM

Well I am another poster from work! I'm online all day so I make little deals with myself.....call those 3 clients and then you can go to Fodors or the other message board I'm on frequently. :)

coccinelle Sep 14th, 2004 04:43 PM

I do not post much. Usually when baby sitting or at the library.
