I've hired six different people to post under my name. :)

Many are writers or at least adept at gathering and sharing information. I have responded to 15 e-mail questions today all during the time I would normally use to go out to lunch. I eat a salad at my desk and, through Fodor's, can vicariously travel about the world.

I keep the Fodors page shrunken on my computer, then when I have any down time I bring it up. I used to keep the Sorrento Web Cam online all the time too until I got too green with jealousy.

I check out the forum once in awhile when I get the chance, but today I'm lucking out because the main server is down and I'm able to log in through a temporary site, and since I can't access anything else on my computer, it seemed like the perfect time to catch up and/or surf the sites!

I'm recovering from surgery so I have plenty of time to post now.

sandi_travelnut Sep 13th, 2004 11:54 AM

I attend many conference calls from my desk (the rest of my team is in another state) therefore I can scan Fodors usually as often as I want whilst I keep an ear to the conversation on the phone.

You have to set your priorities, that's all. :)

I, too, am my own boss. I have days when it's so manic that I read and post before 7am and late at night when I get home, and others when I dot in and out all day.

Read one or other of the addiction threads to see real pain:)

By meticulous attention to all the rules and best practice of time management. By focussing clearly on what's important. By setting clear goals and monitoring performance with clarity and honesty.

Then ignoring all that crap and doing a 2-minute minirant to get the Muse back to work whenever she's deserted me and I'm overdue an article, report or proposal.

Having the best, most insightful and wisest boss in the world (I'm modest as well), this MO is perfectly acceptable.

Ah, retirement. It's the best job I've ever had. When I was working, though, I kept Fodors minimized all the time and worked faster than the average bear so I could feed this addiction.

I am my own boss as well as stuck in now and then with house selling, house re-decorating, and then the occasional hurricane keeps me close to home and the computer.
I do my work best late at night, so aside from pesky chores, if I am not at the beach or shopping, you can find me at Fodors .. where my friends are~

Having returned from my cold shower, if that is a front closure NYC, you indeed have a fast modem. Peace .....

I finish work at 2:30 PM. No stress at work, no traffic jams - lots of time to do what I want to do (like posting on Fodors and planning on another trip to Europe). 4th in 12 months. Life is good!
:)

As a translator working from home, every once in a while, I give my brain a rest from the mental gymnastics my work requires and "travel" with the Fodors posters.

I will, however, be doing some real traveling tomorrow when I fly to Paris and spend the next three weeks in France.

I live on the west coast and never post on office time. I'm capable of being a big old loser and pissing away all kinds of time instead of being "productive." However, I am incapable of writing thoughtful posts when I know that my work is stacked up wanting attention and I know I'm earning a good salary not for surfing but for attending to the needs of clients.

So I post to Fodors after I get off work, when most of the rest of the country is asleep or else spending their leisure time on other pursuits. Maybe if I worked at the front desk, and my duties were limited to getting folks coffee and announcing clients' arrival, I would feel it was acceptable to be paid for posting on Fodors.

ilovetulips Sep 13th, 2004 05:35 PM

I do my posts in the evening at home. I have too much to do at work to be posting there.

tedgale Sep 13th, 2004 05:35 PM

What an interesting set of sidelong peeks into other peoples' lives.

I can't imagine reading or posting on the job, though I make no judgement about those who do.

My Fodor-time is the evenings. In case anyone assumes that I don't have a life: we just sold our last home (of 14 years) in July and got married (with modest pomp) the next day, since which time we have been redecorating and shopping for all the things you need when making such a major change. Plus my spouse left this afternoon for Budapest -- a third (business) trip to Hungary this year. We meet in Lyon on Oct. 2 -- and thanks to sheilaritchie for info on Pau region....

Ira said it best--a matter of choice.

We're living wireless, baby. Where ever we go... there y'all are. Plus it helps that I'm a night owl.

Another one for self employed and working from home!

>Maybe if I worked at the front desk, and my duties were limited to getting folks coffee and announcing clients' arrival, I would feel it was acceptable to be paid for posting on Fodors. <

This sounds odd and not quite right to me.
