For whatever reason this old thread was topped, it reminded me this was where I first learned of the Buckingham Palace spring champagne tours, which we now plan to do next month.

So, thank you to Janisj and to Irishface for topping--

I missed your report first time around (I was in England then) but stumbled upon it today. Sounds like a wonderful trip! You were visiting two of my favorite cities--London and Amsterdam.

My father flew bombers out of Molesworth in England (near Cambridge)during WWII and I was lucky enough to go with him to revisit his base and the area around there. He died in 2014 at 92. So I was interested in hearing of your journey to where your father had fought. The father of one of my friends was there at the battle of the bulge as well and he and most of his crew wound up as POWs for the rest of the war, but he counted himself lucky that he wasn't at Malmedy.

Thanks for sharing!

irishface: How wonderful that you got the chance to visit the area with your father -- I wish my Dad was still around. My parents visited me several times when I was living in England and we did once go to the two areas his units based in England before the invasion of France. But my Mom wasn't at all interested in visiting Normandy or Paris or Belgium so he didn't ever say whether he would have wanted to . . .

Thanks to Irishface for topping or I would have missed this. Great trip report Janisj. In May DH and I will fly to England to visit the site of my father's 8th Air Force base. On a second day we will visit the site where one of 5 bombers my father flew on crashed. Although badly wounded he survived, several crew were killed. It should be quite a day.

that's a shame, JJ. I wonder what she had against them.

Scootoir - I hope that you find your trip worthwhile - I'd have said enjoy but I'm not sure that's the right word.
