Hello,
My son and daughter in law will be in Florence for a few days in late October. They would like to find a really good day trip to Tuscany- sienna, Montalcino, San G, etc. that isn't a huge group. We've spent a couple of weeks there but always on the way to somewhere else and have driven ourselves. They likely don't have the budget for a private driver. Any ideas for the youngsters??
Many thanks!

Yes...Siena is wonderful! We spent a few days there last year, traveled by train from Florence. The Cathedral complex is wonderful, as is the City Hall. Just walking around the city is a joy.
Closer to Florence, would be a short bus ride to Fiesole, a small town in the Florentine hills. I wanted to do that too, but didn't have time. My understanding is that there is a walk from Fiesole to Settignano, which might be of interest to hikers. Haven't been to Lucca yet, but understand it's lovely and easy to get to.
