I was never able to get past what seemed to be humblebragging so I stopped looking at her posts. It's seems that there was some info and pictures I missed by doing so, but there are lots of other great posters here that offer similar info with out the "hb"

IMHO, of course.

>>janisj you were the one who was sent packing as I remember.<<

Okay mimi -- you are way off base on this one. Where did you EVER get that Idea? I've been on Fodors since 1999 (possibly 1998 -- ancient history is a bit foggy) - first under janis and then janisj. I've never been banned in any way shape or form. I have had two posts deleted in 16+ years though . . .

(I changed my screen name in late 2005 when there was a glitch on the site and I couldn't log on - as happened to several others at the same time -- nothing nefarious)

You entered a confusing post which I simply didn't understand. I didn't attack you.

BTW -- I've never ever taken sides on GJ/anti-GJ issue -- but I DID triangle the twerp who was stalking/spamming her threads. Hopefully that helped getting him/her knocked off.

kerouac is a great contributor / GJ is (was) a great contributor -- that they don't agree is not my problem. GJ did seem to go overboard occasionally, but more than a few people seemed to enjoy her posts.

AlessandraZoe Jul 25th, 2015 07:35 AM

While I do understand why GJ's posts could be exhausting, there was no need to attack her. The idea that one just can't ignore an original post that does not pertain to one's needs or wants is beyond me.

While I didn't read every word GJ wrote, her descriptions of meals certainly became useful when I needed to start scheduling reservations in Paris.

Moreover, she was quite willing to contact restaurant owners on the behalf of posters here for special meals. As one of many who benefited from her generosity of spirit, I'm so sorry she was made to feel unwelcome by pure spitefulness.

So if anyone could pass my thanks along to GJ, I would be grateful.

I don't think there was any reason to attack her either. We all come here for advice and such and sometimes the responses are less than nice. I love to travel, and like gracejoan I love Paris, so I look at this forum and get ideas for future trips. I am not sure any of us should feel judged for our wants or likes. We are all different.

Janis, I apologize but there was a janicej here a few years ago who posted a lot of weird stuff. Sorry

janisj Jul 25th, 2015 01:27 PM

wasn't me . . . apology accepted. (that was quite a long time ago -- and she signed on to mimic my posts -- was nuked pretty quickly)

It seems to be the same trolls over and over again. At least they become easier to recognize immediately for us old timers.

Gracejoan's departure from Fodors is not solely about the disturbed troll who periodically pops up on different threads. That is a ridiculous assumption.

My fond travel memory is meeting Gracejoan several years ago in Paris. Sharing cocktails in a lively bar the night before her trip back to the states. What a lovely woman. Her recommendations have made my frequent trips to Paris easier. And because of her, I have become friends with someone who resides in Paris.

And as for her "private group" (lol), it is simply an ongoing group email exchange. We are not merely "admirers" of Joan who "receive her adventures". It's not a VIP fan club, no membership fees. So do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around, because that's not what it's all about.

Also, Gracejoan's email group consists of travelers who themselves offer interesting and useful information. She is definitely not the only one in the mix who posts about trips.

Most importantly, the group allows people to ask simple questions without being insulted. Even though most Fodor's posters are really kind and helpful, the few who are consistently rude and contentious can often make it less stressful to seek information elsewhere.

Hopefully Gracejoan is doing well. I miss her posts on Paris!

One of the many reasons I enjoy Fodor's is the input from many different people who enjoy varioust aspects of travel. I am sorry when posters who share their knowledge and what they enjoy feel unwelcome here.
