French Perfume?

What is your favorite (french made)fragrance?<BR>It would be nice to hear from you men...what<BR>fragrance do you like your lady to wear (keep<BR>answers PG rated please)

carol Sep 5th, 2002 09:21 AM

Caron's "Pour Une Femme".

Robert in Texas Sep 5th, 2002 09:26 AM

My wife wears "Quelle que fleurs" (sp?) by Houbigant. I bought it for her in the US but I believe it is French made. I love it as it is very feminine.

Katherine Sep 5th, 2002 09:27 AM

Molly I love Sisley's "Eau de Soir". I get a lot of compliments. A little goes a long way. Great poll.

Janice Sep 5th, 2002 09:30 AM

I love Coco. Fun thread!

Madame X Sep 5th, 2002 09:33 AM

Janice I have to say I love Coco also because years ago I was "in love" as a teenager with a French teen. He sent over Coco before it was released in the US. I thought I was hot stuff. I like it because it reminds me of my youth and my first romance.

mol Sep 5th, 2002 09:35 AM

Where can you get Quelques Fleurs?!!

Kate Sep 5th, 2002 09:37 AM

Molly I have seen it at Nieman Marcus and Nordstrom.

Robert in Texas Sep 5th, 2002 09:40 AM

Molly I purchased it at Neiman Marcus in Dallas. Also the spelling is Quelques Fleurs. Hope that helps.

Maggie Sep 5th, 2002 09:46 AM

My favorite, at this moment, is Samsara

Katherine Sep 5th, 2002 09:47 AM

My husband wears "Pasha de Cartier" by Cartier which smells great. Also I bought him "Chevalier d'Orsay" by Parfums d'Orsay when I was shopping at La Samaritaine. Hope this helps.

Christina Sep 5th, 2002 10:03 AM

I like Coco, also. I used to like Chanel no. 5 but bought a bottle last year and I guess my taste has changed over the years, as I didn't care for it this time. <BR><BR>I like Lancome's Tresor very much, men seem to like it a lot, as well as Rive Gauche by YSL.

t Sep 5th, 2002 06:46 PM

topping topping

Tom Sep 5th, 2002 06:57 PM

My wife wears Fragonnard "Murmure" which she picked up in Grasse at their factory. She also got some more in Paris at their outlet near the American Express. I adore that scent. She even carries these little pots in her purse -- solid perfume, I think they're called.<BR><BR>Other times she likes to wear "Habanita" I think it's called by another factory she dragged me to in Grasse. Moulinard, or something like that. That one is great too, but I think the first one is the best.

Judy Sep 5th, 2002 06:57 PM

I have enjoyed wearing Champs Elysees.<BR>A little goes a long way and lasts a long time. This is by Guerlain.

Dolores Sep 5th, 2002 07:15 PM

I love "L'Air du Temps", "Joy", and, yes, "Chanel 5". The one I r-e-a-l-l-y love is "ODE", by Guerlain. I have not been able to find it here (in South. Calif) at all; maybe it's too old? We will be in Paris later this month for a couple days - I wonder if I'll be able to find it there?<BR><BR>Thise are the fragrances I really love. My guy likes "Red" and "Opium", neither of which are French?

Peggy Sep 5th, 2002 08:12 PM

I believe Opium is a French perfume.

Christina Sep 6th, 2002 11:14 AM

Opium is French, it's by Yves Saint Laurent. Red is not, it's by somebody in Hollywood (actually, I used to work in the cosmetic/perfume business out there and know some people who worked on Red).<BR><BR>Guerlain doesn't make Ode any more.

andi Sep 6th, 2002 12:02 PM

Someone mentioned on another thread a website called classyperfumes.com. I checked it out and the prices are unbelievable - in fact, I'm not sure I believe them! Does anyone have any experience with this site? Are the perfumes the real thing or are they knockoffs? Anyone?

jj Sep 6th, 2002 12:17 PM

What sizes are the bottles? <BR>2 oz or 4 oz? <BR>The question is there!<BR>You can't compare, unless you have the very same item and size.

andi Sep 6th, 2002 12:22 PM

Yes, they are the same sizes. I'm going to look at the site right now to see if they're really the real thing, in other words, read the fine print. Will report back.

andi Sep 6th, 2002 12:43 PM

Okay, decided I can't wait, will take the plunge. There is no "fine print," at least none I could discern, so I am about to make a purchase at classyperfumes.com (despite the unclassy name).

Andy Sep 9th, 2002 08:35 AM

I adore Fracas by Piquet---Ummm....I can smell it now!!<BR><BR>Also love Amirage by Givenchy

Topsy Sep 9th, 2002 01:00 PM

To the Top!

J Sep 9th, 2002 01:14 PM

Annick Goutal has a wonderful line of perfumes. I know they can be purchased at Nordstroms and Bloomingdales in the US. And she has at least two boutiques in Paris which are likewise lovely. One is on the Place de Saint Sulpice.

o.k Sep 9th, 2002 01:49 PM

Climat by Lancome is beautiful

tracy Sep 9th, 2002 01:54 PM

My all time favorite is Rive Gauche by YSL.

Emily Sep 9th, 2002 04:28 PM

Shalimar by Guerlain

Fleur Sep 9th, 2002 07:54 PM

Annick Goutal's Hadrian is wonderful for summer, but like all citrus perfumes, the fragrance disappears in 5 minutes. I spray it on my pillow. <BR>Joy is my favorite winter perfume. It's the next best thing to being wrapped in sable. Caron makes something interesting called Narcisse Noir that was the first French perfume I wore. If you are in Paris, Caron has a beautiful jewel box of a shop on Ave. Montaigne that carries their old fragrances.

mimi taylor Sep 9th, 2002 08:20 PM

besides all the "Cote Sud" fragrances, I like "vetiver" by Guerlain for men. I discovered this at lunch with a girlfriend of mine who is a Provencal. She smelled so clean and the fragrance didn't interfere with the food!

Marcia Sep 9th, 2002 08:21 PM

Bal a Versailles by Jean Desprez.

Andi Sep 9th, 2002 08:28 PM

I love Gloria and Lou Lou both by Cacherel (for women)- I've only seen this line in France. Please post a reply if you've seen this line in the US. Thanks!

Gina Sep 9th, 2002 08:29 PM

No matter which fragrance any man prefers on his lady has no relevance whatsoever to whether it will produce the same effect for you. Every Frenchwoman knows that best is to select a fragrance for themselves, one they adore and would feel positively remiss without. And, they know that appealing to men is a huge combination of appeal in many more ways than their "scent".

meggie Sep 9th, 2002 10:06 PM

I like this!<BR>Chanel No.5 is my all-time favourite.<BR>If you go to London, try "Joseph". Expensive, but mmmm! Can you get it in the States? I'm sure it's not sold on mainland Europe.

Jeanne Sep 10th, 2002 12:44 PM

My favorite is "Mure et Musc" from L'Artisans Parfumeur. Don't know if they sell it in the U.S.A. It's light, fresh and its unisex.. much better (imho) on the olfactory senses than those cloying unisex fragrances from Calvin Klein. My boyfriend uses it too (he doesn't admit it but I can smell it!!!)

Dolores Sep 10th, 2002 02:13 PM

this is for Christina.<BR><BR>You answered my note on the 6th. Sorry to take so long to get back to this board. I think I knew deep down that Opium is French<BR><BR>And fie on the House of Guerlain for not making Ode anymore! It was such a lovely fragrance.....rrrrazafrats!

lynn brown Sep 10th, 2002 04:01 PM

Chanteclaire's Frangipane. Can't find it in Canada anymore.

mimi taylor Sep 10th, 2002 04:10 PM

Doloras, I loved "ODE" by Guerlain but it was discintinued. I went to the paris shop hoping they had some left overs at the time but no luck. Years later reading an old James Bond book, I read his love wore "ode"<BR>

Julie Sep 10th, 2002 07:49 PM

For the last year, my favorite has been<BR>Noa by Cacherel. Unfortunately, I can<BR>not get it locally anymore (small Florida town). So I am looking for a<BR>new scent. I do like Coco...but a bit<BR>heavy for office wear (at least around<BR>the sensitive)

L Sep 10th, 2002 08:39 PM
