Ursula Jan 22nd, 2002 07:36 AM

Bits of "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium" with a very young Patricia Routledge as a museum tourguide.

mimi taylor Jan 22nd, 2002 10:55 AM

I am trying to find a film I saw many years ago. A teen age boy has a crush on an older girl whom he follows with her dates. I think that girl was played by Mariane Faithful. The tragic climatic scene takes place in a swimming pool and I believe the film was titled Deep End. Does anyone know this film and is it available?

Tom Jan 22nd, 2002 11:07 AM

Speaking of Patricia Routledge, I believe To Sir With Love was done in London. I just found out recently that a young Patricia Routledge had a part in that.<BR>

Emily Jan 22nd, 2002 11:55 AM

One that we got out of the $4 DVD pile that was a banner choice...<BR><BR>SMASHING TIME<BR><BR>From the late '60s. Stars one of the Redgraves, a young woman named Rita Tushingham, and Michael York in his film debut. 'Austin Powers' was visually modeled after this film -- it is stunnin(gly bad). It's a musical about two girls from the North who come to London to go to Carnaby Street and be groovy. It's amazing.<BR><BR>I am hoping against all hopes that a copy of this soudtrack exists somewhere in London, and that I'll be able to find it in March!! If anyone has a lead, lemme know.

Ursula Jan 22nd, 2002 12:03 PM

"Blow Up". Michelangelo Antonioni's famous cult movie (1966) starring Vanessa Redgrave, David Hemmings, and, if I remember well, also Twiggy.

bonnie Jan 22nd, 2002 12:17 PM

The Great Muppet Caper! Metroland.

IanG Jan 22nd, 2002 12:19 PM

INDISCREET (1958) Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, directed by Stanley Donen. This picture made me want to go to London and it's what films aren't anymore...effortlessly charming.<BR><BR>And to be accurate, MY FAIR LADY and MARY POPPINS were set in London, but filmed in Los Angeles and Burbank, California respectively.

SharonG Jan 22nd, 2002 12:53 PM

Oh Mimi, I loved Touch of Class! Especially when George Segal couldn't get the car out of second gear. Was Alfie filmed in London? Didn't Midnight Lace with Doris Day and Rex Harrison take place there too? Oh, I'm showing my age. Glad to hear that others remember those great movies from the 60's too. How about parts of Hard Day's Night and Help?

pat Jan 22nd, 2002 12:57 PM

Madame Sousatka, with Shirley MacLaine and Twiggy. Very British. Love Pride and Prejudice, too.

c Jan 22nd, 2002 01:18 PM

mimi taylor Jan 22nd, 2002 01:21 PM

film buff Jan 22nd, 2002 01:25 PM

Taste of Honey was filmed in Liverpool.

c Jan 22nd, 2002 01:35 PM

Is Liverpool not in London?<BR>ROYAL WEDDING<BR> with Fred Astaire and some vintage shots of Queen Elizabeth..<BR>MORGAN with<BR>Vanessa Redgrave and David Warner~<BR>do we win a prize:) ?

mimi taylor Jan 22nd, 2002 01:42 PM

C-no Liverpool is a seperate city. Morgan is a very funny film and holds up well. Georgie girl was with Lynn Redgrave and Charlotte Rampling. I think Alan Bates was the male lead.

Judy Jan 22nd, 2002 01:44 PM

Hi Mimi, I loved "Goodbye Mr. Chips", with Peter O'Toole and Petula Clark. Remember the song "London is London"? I always hear that when I think of London. <BR>judy :-)

Grasshopper Jan 22nd, 2002 01:45 PM

Nobody mentioned the last James Bond movie (I forgot the name of it) where he falls off the hot air balloon and falls onto the millenium dome. The chase scene on the Thames was exciting.

mimi taylor Jan 22nd, 2002 01:53 PM

This is great, you are all hot!Now how could I forget one of the funniest films of all time-a must see,<BR>"The lavender Hill Mob".

Hitchcock Fan Jan 22nd, 2002 02:09 PM

Was Frenzy photographed in London?

IanG Jan 22nd, 2002 02:43 PM

FRENZY was filmed in London, so was Hitchcock's STAGE FRIGHT (Dietrich is marvelous, but the rest of the film is dullsville). FRENZY is one of the few films that does not have the Hitchcock walk-on. Originally, an opening shot was to feature a body floating face up on the Thames. On closer view, it was a dummy that resembled Hitchcock. As I recall, the shot was scrapped, as Hitch felt it was a "comic" opening to what was his most grim and uncompromising film.

Judy Jan 22nd, 2002 02:49 PM

Speaking of Hitchcock: The Man Who Knew Too Much? <BR>Wings of the Dove?

Carolyn Jan 22nd, 2002 02:52 PM

How about the original "Bedazzled" with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore?

c Jan 22nd, 2002 03:01 PM

In Frenzy, when the crowd is gathered at the edge of the water while they fish the body out of the water, Alfred Hitchcock is one of the crowd..he looks and then turns away..<BR>*Was Lolita with James Mason in London? :) this is fun~c

mimi taylor Jan 22nd, 2002 04:17 PM

film buffs, here are more great films.<BR>Alec Guinness, in Joyce Cary's "The Horse'S Mouth,<BR>Oliver Reed, in"I'll nver forget What's 'IsName",<BR>Alec Guiness in "LadyKillers,<BR>Sidney Poitier "To Sir, with Love",<BR>and one of my favorites, "THT SERVANT"<BR>with Dirke Bogart and Sarah Miles.
