Don't go to "da felice" a Testaccio

very bad restaurant, with very bad managers, rude. They do not respect the reservations. in particular with the tourists

Here is another recent thread with suggestions especially in TRastevere. I really recommend trying one of the many good restaurants in the ghetto area

we just returned last week and we really enjoyed Pier Luigi, Piazza de Ricci. Their pasta nad fish were excelent. Also Natalino and Maurizio, Corso di Francia 115-117. Great spot, all locals, fabulous steaks, pastas etc.
We also enjoyed Quincy and Gabrieli, the lobster catalan was the best we have ever had. It's a bit expensive but woth it! Stay away from Al Moro, behind the Trevi, the food was horrid, the service not great and all in all not a good meal in Rome.

My two favorite restaurants in Rome are in the Testaccio neighborhood. This area is frequented by Romans and has wonderful, moderately prices restaurants. Try these:

Perilli al Testaccio, 39 via Marmorata -- Has the best pasta carbonara in the city

Luna Piena, 15 via Luca della Robbia (located in a small alley-type of street right behind Perilli)

Enjoy!!!!

Bringing up these old posts is fine, but I hope readers realize that most of these reports are from over three years ago. A LOT happens to restaurants in three years.

Check out the Lamb at "La Cisterna" in Trastevere (Via della cisterna, 13).

There is a map here:

Nino's is excellent. EXCELLENT. We managed to get a table without a reservation on a Friday night. We showed up a few minutes after they openned, but the place quickly filled up.

If you go there, you MUST get the Montebianco for dessert if it's available.

Pierluigi's on Via Monserrato in the Piazza Navona area. If you go, try the wild mushroom salad. Heavenly!

Hi cparris --

We had favorable experiences at all of the following restaurants in 05. We sought these out based on advice found on this forum primarily and loved them all! There are full blown reviews in my trip report from that year if you're interested in more details.

Santa Cristina, Via della Cordonata 21-22

Hosteria da Nerone, Via delle Termi di Tito 96, near Colosseum
great view of the Colosseum, amazing Carbonara!

Dal/Al Pompiere, Via Saint Maria dei Calderari 38
Worth going just for the battered and fried artichoke heart. I still dream about that. ;)

Da Baffetto, Via del Governo Vecchio 114, near Piazza Navona
I think this might be the best pizza I’ve ever tasted...

Enjoy!

I agree that Ditirambo is also the best.

Ai Spaghettari in Trastevere. We were staying in Trastevere and chose this restaurant because there were NO tourists dining there, figuring that would be the best kind of place to get the BEST food.....and we were right! On the menu it said the restaurant had been there since the mid 1800's. The best food we had in Rome. A friend of mine was there a few months ago and dined there and agreed that the food was some of the best of her trip!
