Nino's : I guess we were lucky we just dropped by (at a good time) and got a table. Cant remember what I ate, it was almost 3 summers ago... but I do remember it was VERY good and everyone in my party was satisfied!
On another note: I was in Rome for 2 weeks the last time, and almost everyday I got together with 2 or 3 people I met over there at an apperitive. Its a vinoteca? or a place where they sell wines and also have delicious appetizers and wine by the glass. We would have different prosecco (champagne like) with fab little somethings. It was @ a very good location, i;ll look for the street later. From there we would walk to dinner. |

For me the best restaurant in Rome is Myosotis (Vicolo della Vaccarella), you can also try Piazza Caprera (Piazza Caprera) for the seafood

I just returned from a very memorable three week trip to Switzerland and Rome as it was a wonderful religious experience being in Rome during Holy Week and Easter Sunday. In my loving wife's absence (she's having her knee operation on Tuesday), I ate at a Fodorite suggested restaurant called L'ORSO 80 located about a 2 minute walk from P. Navona. I went there for the primary purpose of ordering their MIXED ANTIPASTO. I was WARNED that it was alot of food, but didn't imagine it was THAT MUCH FOOD. It actually was NINE large bowels of food from Meatballs, Cheese, Peppers ect.. Of course eating alone made it even more OBSCENE. The price was around 10-11 Euros as it's truly a meal in itself. The place is mentioned here and under Rant and Raves. Have a great trip !!! Mike

ANY restaurant in Campo Di Fiori!! We loved the corner restaurant.. i.e if you are facing the statue near Forno, then the restaurant to the right corner at the far end.. LOVELY pasta and the best pizza we had in Rome...

L'Angoletto and Le Volte are right next to each other (and owned by the same dude...Sergio Tudini), and are very good...(I am quite picky, and the spaghetti a la vongole was 'squisito'). They are located around the corner from the pantheon in Piazza Rondanini. Buon appetito!!!

My favorites are La Rampa in this little piazza right next to the Spanish Steps, behind the American Express office. I remember having this delicious salmon sauce pasta. It is a favorite among locals, because there were lots of families with children there. And the water kept coming over to our table to see if we enjoyed our meal. My friend and I choose htis restaurant to return to a second time for our last day, but unfortunately it was SUnday and closed.
And Da Fortunato, on a side street leading up to the front of the Pantheon...the most delicious buffalo mozzarella...and charming old waiter who told us his life story! Both were so good...and elegant (at Da Fortunato, some patrons were dressed up in suits, but OK if you dont dress up as much). |
Cparris, thanks so much for asking this question and thanks to all who have responded. I have put all these suggestions into my file for the trip in July. Only problem is that I don't think we can try all these fabulous places in two days in Rome, but we'll have fun trying!

Returned last week and my favorite find was Trattoria Da Mario alla Chiesa Nuova, just off Piazza Chiesa Nuova (Via Vittorio Emmanuel).
