At least Serbia has demonstrated talent.

Mucky May 12th, 2007 01:53 PM

Talent?? Not much evidence of that tonight.
Least of all in my guestimates !!

I really thought Serbia would be last it was dreadful..lol

I guess the cultural divide is as great as ever.

kleeblatt May 12th, 2007 02:01 PM

Yup. Not too many people here on the board know what we are talking about.

Mucky May 12th, 2007 02:03 PM

I'm not so sure we have a clue either ..lol

Well, Ireland certainly deserved to come in last.

kleeblatt May 12th, 2007 02:08 PM

Serbia won. A rather pudgy 24 year old with short black hair and dressed in a black suit and wearing....drum roll please: white sneakers!

Maybe she's a tourist.

kleeblatt May 12th, 2007 02:15 PM

See you next year at the same time, same place and same website.

Guet Nacht!

Mucky May 12th, 2007 02:15 PM

This song is even more dreadful than the first time I heard it.

Well Schuler, Lagos and everyone see you next year for another gripping instalment of Eastern Europevision..lol

It's over..., why should Germany, France, Spain and the UK broadcasters still pay all the money for this nonsense next year. But now I know why Yugoslavia split up :-) :-)

StCirq May 12th, 2007 02:30 PM

Can someone explain to me how the point system works, because I never seem to remember to "tune" into it until the end when each country is giving each other points.

BTilke May 12th, 2007 02:37 PM

DJ Bobo was the Swiss entry? Oh no! We first caught DJ Bobo on Austrian TV six years.
The Tilke household split its votes between Latvia and Germany. With an Armenian sister-in-law, we felt pressure to vote for Armenia, but those corny large hearts in the set just put us off.
Ireland was dreadful, the song was boring and the singer was out of tune.
Helsinki looked quite attractive and the stage setting was superb.
Was it just us or did Wogan seem off his game? He seemed a lot less sharp than in previous years...did someone tell him to tone it down? Too bad.

RM67 May 12th, 2007 06:19 PM

No need to watch - you know (without even looking) the British entry's ALWAYS gonna be two tuneless camp guys and two tuneless chavvy girls doing a cheesy dance routine...

Royaume-Uni - Nil points!

flanneruk May 12th, 2007 11:00 PM

I know this isn't a place for profundities. But I couldn't decide which was the more astonishing revelation:

- every single one of those songs had emerged from a selection process. People in Britain and Ireland had written - and got through a first round with - around a dozen songs that were WORSE than those two.

- countries kept on voting for other countries the posh media tell you they loathe. Armenia gave Turkey tons of votes. Bosnia voted for Serbia. Some of the Balts voted for Russia. Is it just possible (as everyone with a posh English accent visiting Ireland has long suspected) that all this "deep hostility" we're always reading about is just superficial journalism?

kerouac May 12th, 2007 11:21 PM

Another interesting element is the large number of votes that Turkey always gets from all of the countries with a large Turkish community. Does this mean that the locals have learned to appreciate the Turks, or does it mean that Turkish immigrants have nothing better to do than vote for Eurovision songs?

Watched it with friends last night. We gave our "nul points" to Serbia, thought they were utterly dire! Ireland came a close second-last. (the girl looked petrified and sang out of tune the whole way through the song!) We liked France best, mainly for the crazy man in the pink suit with the cat round his neck. Lowest points were awarded by us to countries that took it seriously (mostly the power ballads like Serbia's entry). High points to camp outfits, cheesy dance routines and singalong choruses.
Anyway we got it all wrong :(

audere_est_facere May 13th, 2007 04:14 AM

Things I have learned from this year's Eurovision:

Never go to finland - it's desperately dull.

Ireland actually took the Father Ted option.

Serbian bints munt and munt hard

Russia's entry must have been chosen by kiddy fiddlers

we're never going to win again so either we carry on taking the piss (given that we have an assured place) or we get Pink Floyd to do it next year.

Mucky May 13th, 2007 04:37 AM

The 'spectacle' was really spoilt by the scoring process. I used to love the drawn out scoring from 1-12, even more than the show itself, it was far more entertaining.

Trouble is - now the predictability of the political voting is even easier to determine. With most of the countries coming from what used to be Russia or there abouts, it has now gone quite flat.

The problem with the UK entry (apart from being cr@p) was that I am not so sure that many of the Eastern European countries are quite ready for such camp bubblegum cr@p with a hint of gay thrown in for good measure.

But in saying that, what was that thing that won? a bloke or a woman??

Crikey better take some more pills this is making me obsessive..lol ;-)

Oh and another thing, can Serbia afford to host this next year? or will we be contributing more.

Whilst on the subject of paying for it, anyone know where the funding comes from? Is it the UK TV licence fee???

:-)
