DUBYA LOVES OZZY

This one's true:

SCARY or what? George W Bush has invited Ozzy Osbourne to dinner at the White House.

The war-crazy US President is a big fan of the heavy metal star who once bit off a bat's head during one particularly wild stage act. And Mr Bush is hooked on Ozzy's MTV show The Osbournes - a fly-on-the-wall docusoap about life in the singer's Beverly Hills home.

An example of American class?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews...l&siteid=50143

oh dear Apr 5th, 2002 04:13 PM

american class...

may I remind you that Ozzy is a Brit?
rapprochement Apr 5th, 2002 04:15 PM

It takes one to know one.

so Apr 5th, 2002 04:22 PM

We love the Osbourns..all of our friends love the Osbourns. So what???????

Uncle Sam Apr 5th, 2002 04:23 PM

The biggest offense is you calling President Bush "war crazy"...what a fool you are!

Uncle Sam

xman Apr 5th, 2002 04:27 PM

Reminds me of Nixon inviting Elvis to the Whitehouse. Read into however you want. Uncle Sam you are still a uneducated dangerous mean old man. May you reap all of George's actions.

Rocker Apr 5th, 2002 04:29 PM

Now we have these little yuppy snotwads trashing *Real* rock and roll.

Rock n rol is loud guitars!!

Bush's liking Ozzy is totally cool. Now go listen to the Pet shop boys and leave the rock to the big dawgs!!

Carol Apr 5th, 2002 04:33 PM

Can't figure out what the point of this posting is?? Don't think this has anything to do with travel but Lord only knows that President Bush needs and deserves some "down time" doing whatever he enjoys!! Carol

Not my words, just the reporters. Oh yeah, W's a man of taste and refinement.

Realize the implications: C average at Yale, which he admits to crowds of impressionable youth, arrested for drunk driving and drug possession, AWOL from the National Guard, an association with ENRON dating back to the mid 1980s, totally bereft of experience or qualifications for the most powerful job in the world. Why worry? Be happy.

Rocker Apr 5th, 2002 04:43 PM

Since the subject is on rock n roll. Here is the my top 10 rock songs of all time.

#10 July Mornig....Uriah Heep
# 9 Crosstown Traffic..Jimi Hendrix
# 8 Rock n Roll ain't noise polution
# 7 Bring your whiskey home.. Van Halen
# 6 In memory of Elizabeth Reed. Allman Brothers

#5 How many more times... Led Zeppelin
#4 Night Prowler ...AC/DC
#3 Dazed and Confused.. Led Zeppelin
#2 Stranglehold...Ted Nugent
#1 Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap..AC/DC

Don't tell me that rock n roll isn't international!!

ENRON/CARLYLE Apr 5th, 2002 04:44 PM

Well Sam, if the shoe fits......

Who's going to profit from a war in Irak? Why, the Carlyle Group, poppy's little business. Tony Blair doesn't seem too thrilled at present. Don't be so ridiculously naive.

american as apple pie Apr 5th, 2002 04:47 PM

And here I thought this was the family values administration.....

WRONG.

Jack Apr 5th, 2002 04:52 PM

Rocker--you like some old passe music. I mean some of it is good music, but don't you think you might try sometjing new once in a while.

Brit--can you really talk with that stuffy old nazi hag Thatcher you produced.

I wonder how Bush's white right wing christian allies will view their holier than now man (the former drunk and coke head sinner) watching this "immoral" trash! Only an idiot would enjoy watching that fat slob osbourne.

Rocker Apr 5th, 2002 04:57 PM

Jack, I like some of the Stone Temple pilot's work. Afterall, they are-were a rock n' roll band. Most of the crap on radio today is mellowed out pop music passing as rock. Other newer bands I liked were Jnes's addiction, but they disbanded!

Long live stations like 107.7 the Bone on KSAN FM in Sanfran!!

Rollling Thunder Apr 5th, 2002 05:04 PM

A few fun facts:

Eighty-four years after the "war to end all wars," George W. Bush seems hell bent on starting a "war to end all peace" and our government is pursuing a nuclear arms policy that make Dr. Strangelove look like a sissy.

We have a president who believes that the people's business is none of the people's business.

We have an Attorney General who considers civil liberties to be an annoyance (and calico cats to be a sign of the devil).

Our president is pushing for the adoption of a permanent wartime budget, which will neglect domestic needs while substantially increasing the already huge national debt we are so generously passing on to our children.

Our national parks and wilderness areas are now under the stewardship of people who have never seen a tree they didn't think would look better as a stack of lumber, or a wilderness area that wouldn't look lovelier with a nice assortment of oil derricks.

We are being led by people who honestly believe that the principal economic goal of the federal government should be to help rich people get richer.

We have a president who also believes that Congress should stop bothering him while he's busy running the country.

And by the way, all of this is being done by a president who didn't actually win the election.

This is no time for silence. IT'S TIME TO ROCK 'N ROLL.

John G Apr 5th, 2002 05:06 PM

I love the Osbournes!! Am I the only one who sees the irony in Ozzy Osbourne, his wife and two kids and Ozzy Nelson, his wife and two kids as a TV program? The difference is "The Osbournes" is REAL and "Ozzy and Harriet" was FAKE. I'll take the foul-mouthed Osbournes over the homogenous, facile, cookie-cutter Nelsons any day.

laughing to the bank Apr 5th, 2002 05:12 PM

You mean you didn't know Ozzy Osbourne's a stage name, and a pun on Ozzy Nelson? Duuuh.

Trash TV targets the undiscriminating.

BTW Ricky Nelson could rock.

StonesFan Apr 5th, 2002 05:16 PM

"Laughing" you call Garden Party rock? Blech.

laughing Apr 5th, 2002 05:20 PM

Love the Stones. Just pointing out the irony. The Nelsons were good folks during white-bread time, and Ricky, God rest his soul, cut loose.

It was a kinder, gentler time.

Rocker Apr 5th, 2002 05:22 PM

The best Stones song ever was "Midnight rambler". (The live version)

lisa Apr 5th, 2002 05:27 PM

>>>An example of American class?

It's better than being a lowclass Brit who has nothing better to do with their time than bitch and pretend to speak for all Brits!!!

StonesFan Apr 5th, 2002 05:32 PM

I'll stack up the Stones against Ozzie Ozbourne any day.

Uncle Sam Apr 5th, 2002 05:32 PM

Lisa...awesome post!

And BTW, everyone knows the best rock and roll band of all time is U2!

who's in charge Apr 5th, 2002 05:43 PM

Now Sam, there you go again!

This is how Bush spent March, while the Middle-East spiraled out of control:

March 1. The President spoke to students at Lakewood Elementary School in North Little Rock, Ark.

March 2. Bush issued a proclamation for "National Poison Prevention Week," and met with the President of El Salvador.

March 4. He christened the USS Ronald Reagan.

March 5. Bush met with the University of Oklahoma football and softball teams. He made a call to the hospitalized Vice President Dick Cheney to wish him well, and signed a proclamation for "Save Your Vision Week."

March 6. Bush announced that he is going to Sweden in June for the U.S.-European Union Summit. He posed for a photo op with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

March 8. Bush spoke at North Dakota State University, and released his tax plan to help low income families.

March 12. The President visited a youth center in Panama City, Fla., and spoke to the rotary club.

March 14. Bush gave a speech to the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, and tours a youth center at the Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield.

March 15. The President met with World Boxing Association heavyweight champ Johnny Ruiz, and with "PTA Teacher of the Year," Katha Black.

March 16. Dubya celebrated St. Patrick's Day with Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, and proclaimed "National Girl Scout Week."

March 19. Bush addressed the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

March. 21. The President spoke at the American College of Cardiology Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla.

March 22. Bush dedicated the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center and proclaimed "Education and Sharing Day.

March 23. The President condemned violence in Macedonia, and spoke to the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce.

March 26/27. Bush discussed the budget in Billings, Mont., and tackled the economy at Western Michigan University.

March 29. The President spoke at the Radio-TV Correspondents Dinner.

March 30. He met with members of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The President, on announcing Powell's plans, said this could be a hopeful moment for the Middle East.
"But it calls for leadership, not for terror," he said.

Bush has shown zilch leadership when it comes to the Middle East and has squandered any progress that President Clinton had made to achieve peace in the region.

But Ozzy's coming to dinner!!!!!

Uncle Sam Apr 5th, 2002 05:48 PM

Who's in charge,

Nothing is spiralling out of control Dude!

The Israeli's are doing exactly what we want them to do...eliminate or arrest a huge number of mind numbed Palestinean terrorists. They got six Hesballah just yesterday. Let them go in, clean up the bad guys and leave the place a bit better.

Only sad part is they should have arrested Palestinean terrorist numero uno..Arrafat while they had him. Now he'll weasle around, make agreements and break them while 15 year old girls blow themselves up so their family gets $$$ from Saddam.

Sad situation, but it isn't Bush's fault!

Uncle Sam

BeatChick Apr 5th, 2002 05:49 PM

No, Uncle Sam, the best Rock n Roll band of all-time is the Pixies (or REM). At least they're American (even though U2 desperately WANT to be American). And REM is from the South (go Athens, GA!).

MaryC Apr 5th, 2002 05:50 PM

I think Bush should invite Bush, the band, to the White House. It would be more appropos!

Jack Apr 5th, 2002 05:54 PM

U2 is from the South too-- (the good south --the ROI) and they do NOT want to be American.

Sam--even a right wing nut like Pat Buchanan has a much more even-handed view of the middle east conflict as it applies to Isreal and the Palestinians. You are brainwashed by the one-sided media> Poor boy!

Rocker Apr 5th, 2002 05:55 PM

I know I'm going to p*** off chick, but bands like REM are weenie bands.

If you're gonna talk the talk, you gottah walk the walk.

BeatChick Apr 5th, 2002 06:00 PM

Then, Jack, why so many references to America in album titles, song titles? I love old U2 and have been a long-time fan but I don't think they compare as one of the BEST RnR bands.

REM might be a weenie band now, but from the Green album backwards they rocked. At times they've been referred to as the last great rock n roll band in America (according to Rolling Stone magazine). These titles have also been conferred on bands like the Pixies, Husker Du, and the Replacements but I've never seen it applied to U2.

And, no, BeatChick doesn't get pissed off by someone else's opinion, rationally stated or otherwise.

And this is only MVHO. Let the discussion rave on...

Jack Apr 5th, 2002 06:40 PM

Well Beat chick--you can admire a country and their people w/o wanting to actually be them. A more cynical view might be that they know e are their biggest market! I think better of them though.

And REM is a great band. Yes, Rocker the 70s bands listed you listed are great ==but that doesnt make REM and Us less great. STP is great too!

BeatChick Apr 5th, 2002 06:54 PM

Jack, you're right, but I always wished U2 would focus more on their own country and be more of the "Irish" band that I loved in the beginning. They won't even play "Sunday Bloody Sunday" anymore in concert because they think Americans wouldn't be able to relate to Irish history/politics, i.e. that we wouldn't understand about the 1916 Easter Uprising. Oh well.

Uncle Sam Apr 5th, 2002 06:58 PM

Beatchick,

Yes they do play "Sunday Bloody Sunday" at their concerts. I saw them live in October and I have the DVD for their Boston concert and they do.

And...when they played "Walk On" and when the 9/11 names came up on the screen it was...an emotional moment!

Brought mist to Uncle Sam's eyes!!!

John G Apr 5th, 2002 07:13 PM

Ooooohhhhh, the 50's a kinder, gentler time?? Jim Crow Laws, no birth control, only go to college if you were rich, women in the kitchen in skirts, black people on TV playing maids or gas station employees, no gay rights, anti-semitism, if you are unmarried and pregnant just go to the Home for Unwed Mothers and let them rip your baby out of your arms and give it away, if your husband beats you just keep your mouth shut, if you are molested by a priest just keep your mouth shut, don't have an opinion just keep your mouth shut. Yes, the 50's were a great time if you were a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant straight male who stayed on top by keeping everybody else down. Duh.

xxx Apr 5th, 2002 07:46 PM

Of course Dubya loves Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy Osbourne's a rich white man, just like Dubya's buddy Kenny Boy Lay. Rich white men are Dubya's favorite kind of people and all of his policies are intended to help them.

BeatChick Apr 5th, 2002 07:54 PM

Gee U.S., guess I haven't paying as much to U2 lately as I should. 10 years they stated in an interview that they would never play "Sunday..." ever again for the reasons I stated.

My opinion of them is picking up.

But has Bono gotten rid of the dreadful "Lou Reed" specs yet?

Uncle Sam Apr 5th, 2002 08:19 PM

Beatchick,

You're right they did say no SBS...but they began playing it again when the North and South got together and Bono played a bit part in the process.

Jack Apr 5th, 2002 08:19 PM

Yes Beat -those specs are pathetic. I had thought he might be imitating a moden day john lennon lately with his calls for help to 3rd world and his glasses, etc.

BeatChick Apr 5th, 2002 09:12 PM

Tee hee hee..."modern-day John Lennon". Bono can certainly be pretensious, can't he?!?

I just recall that when I heard "Exit" from the Joshua Tree that it reminded me of the VU's "Heroin" (and I knew they were HUGE VU fans like REM), so naturally when I saw the specs Lou Reed immediately sprang to mind. : )
