Kerouac, cut down a pine tree while they are waiting also. :)

gracejoan3 Jan 14th, 2015 09:00 PM

I think I might have skipped in even starting this thread. Supposedly the forum is to pass on information to travelers that they might be interested in. Since this was a new restaurant, by an already popular chef, highly mentioned by other known reviewers...like John Talbott...I thought I might pass on that I had secured a reservation and would give it a try! There has been so much strange, unrelated posting on here that I think I will just forget about passing on our review next week.

a bientot....

I am sorry if I came across as snarky.

Here is more from John Talbott:

I find positive restaurant reviews very dull. Any chance of some negative ones, these just fill my heart with joy. Go on, someone must have had a bad meal somewhere. Your lack of pleasure could save me a fortune.

Have a great day

I am very interested in reading about new restaurants/menus/reviews etc., in Paris, particularly from Gracejoan3. If you're not a foodie, don't bother reading such posts and take a pass on sarcastic, inane and unwanted remarks, please. This site seems more and more to be a magnet for negativism. So tiresome. Whatever happened to positive reinforcement?

Judy Jan 15th, 2015 07:31 AM

I look forward to her restaurant reviews as well.

bilboburgler Jan 15th, 2015 08:02 AM

Really, travel!

"If you're not a foodie"; I am
"sarcastic"; it's not
"inane"; it's not
"and unwanted remarks"; I cannot help that

"please". Thanks

Nothing wrong with "positive reinforcement", but sometimes much funnier writing :-)

Have a great day.

Hi grancejoan3,
I hope you will let us know how you liked Clover. I always read about your trip experiences while I take a lunch break at work...eating my low-fat yogart...and very much miss your posts. Your photos make everything look so delicious!

flpab Jan 15th, 2015 08:44 AM

Look, I love to eat out but each place is open to reviews and critics. I just asked an obvious question on their serving dishes. We use slate for a cheese plate but the pine and Paris pavers had me intrigued.

kerouac Jan 15th, 2015 09:02 AM

Perhaps it is better to start a thread when you have actually been to a restaurant rather than just announcing triumphantly that you have obtained a reservation.

Just my way of thinking, totally unimportant...

ekscrunchy Jan 15th, 2015 11:06 AM

That is more or less what prompted me to respond.

I always cringed when I would read threads beginning with: "I won't be posting for 4 days..off on my cruise!!" "Will be away from the Lounge for 3 hours..have a dentist appt!!"

But my response was probably snarky, as I mentioned so if it caused offense, I'm sorry.

apersuader65 Jan 16th, 2015 10:31 AM

I guess I don't understand. You post a snarky response, then apologize if anyone was offended.

Just own it.

If you regularly post snark, accept that is who you are and stop apologizing, really. Apologizing doesn't help anyone's opinion of you, especially if you regularly post snark first.

well, that doesn't apply to ekscrunchy, so her apology should, by those lights, be accepted.

I suspect that the OP is feeling a little sensitive after the recent notorious thread which went south very rapidly due to a troll. i don't know enough about the food scene in Paris to know whether I'm supposed to be excited about Clover, but Grace's recommendations seem pretty sound, so it'll be nice to know what she thinks when she gets there.

and isn't the anticipation half the pleasure? even if it's vicarious.

historytraveler Jan 16th, 2015 01:14 PM

I'm not planning on returning to Paris this year, maybe not next, but I would still like to hear Grace's review of Clover. I always thought giving one's opinion and reviews on hotels, restaurants and tourist sites was the raison d' être for Fodors. Seems like lately it's become more of a sounding post for negative opinions.

ekscrunchy Jan 16th, 2015 02:13 PM

Thank you, Ann.

To Persuader: I do not usually post "snark," and I think it is perfectly fine to apologize to the OP for posting something that was not well thought out.

I am the last person who should criticize anyone for being excited about restaurants or food. I would also like to read the review if Grace is kind enough to post it after the meal.

cigalechanta Jan 16th, 2015 02:30 PM

Ekscrunchy, not to worry. Those of us who have en here for years know you are not one of the meanies You are a nice helpful posters.

historytraveler Jan 16th, 2015 02:48 PM

I certainly wasn't referring to ekscrunchy either. Like other Fodorires here, I pretty much know the good guys from the bullies. Just seems to be more bullies lately.

tarquin Jan 18th, 2015 04:53 AM

The advice from John Talbott was welcome - many a meal has been ruined by people, their nationality always the same, at nearby tables. Why do some diners think it is up to them to fill the whole restaurant with their din?

tarquin Jan 18th, 2015 04:55 AM

BTW, I am sure Gracejoan is the opposite of these types, and it is pleasant to hear about her interactions with friendly proprietors.

StuDudley Jan 18th, 2015 07:44 AM

We've had dinner with Joan in Paris on several occasions. She is definitely not one to "fill the whole restaurant with their din". She is actually just the opposite.
