Boston Area Get Together

Okay - it seems Atlanta has their plans well under way for a get together. Is anyone out there in the New England area interested in having one?

Art Jun 7th, 2001 10:16 AM

C'mon you Bostonians, get it together. I'm thinking of retiring back to New England as most of my family is in that area so I expect to see other Fodorites there!!!
Cheers
Art
Stacey Jun 11th, 2001 04:33 AM

Thanks for the push, Art. It doesn't seem to be helping, but I'm trying not to take it personally :)

Audrey Jun 11th, 2001 06:18 AM

I'm game!

Topper Jun 11th, 2001 09:04 AM

oh come on

nancy Jun 11th, 2001 09:46 AM

Stacey,
i live in Southern VT, so a 2+hr drive does not seem too bad to me!
When were you thinking?
We are going to Italy soon, ewill not be back until the 10th july, then my husband is telling the children he is divorcing me!
(Long story posted here under other threads)
BUT, even though i have lived in VT for 30 yrs, I do not know my way around Boston well.
but, since I am going to italy, and will be negotiating the streets of Rome, and driving to the Naples airport to pick up a friend, I think I can be adventurous enough to try Boston!

Good idea.
If it does not fly right away, let's keep trying, maybe some people are away on vacation.
I do not want to wait until Art retires "back home" for one.
Art,
Do you really want to retire back to the land of cold and leafless (for half the year) trees?! :)

stacey Jun 11th, 2001 10:33 AM

Nancy - I've been following your plans for Italy closely. Fingers crossed for you that is all goes well.

I'm thinking early September. I'm going to be away on business from the 12th of July through the 30th and our fiscal year ends 30 Aug - so that month will be busy.

Don't worry - I live 45 minutes from Boston and I know it about as well as I know London - and seeing I've only been there twice...... We can pick someplace just outside the city or easy to get to.

I guess we can wait to see what else we can for responses.

AUDREY - is that a good email address?

I'm going to start an evite page and work from there.

ART - should we keep you in the loop in case your home visiting?

Audrey Jun 11th, 2001 11:45 AM

Yes, Stacey, this is my real, I'm-not-afraid-of-spam (well, sort of) e-mail address. And I live in Southern New Hampshire, about 90 minutes from Boston.
Someone copied your message onto the US forum, so perhaps there will be more "takers" from there!

nancy Jun 11th, 2001 12:40 PM

Stacey,
thanks for your thoughts.
September is good.
this is my real address, so please keep me/ this site posted as to any plans.
Audrey,
South-east or south-west N.H?
Audrey Jun 11th, 2001 03:18 PM

Nancy: southwest (Peterborough); are you in Brattleboro?

stacey Jun 11th, 2001 03:46 PM

Hey guys = if it's just the three of us - I'll come to you. No problem at all.

Nano Jun 11th, 2001 05:52 PM

How about Portsmouth? I'm in Portland, Maine. Wouldn't that be a great midway point? September would be lovely. Let me know. I'll be around after we return from our France and Belgium trip (6/21-7/9).

Art Jun 11th, 2001 06:30 PM

Stacey, yes keep me in the loop. I may try to be the first to visit all GTG areas. I was just back there this weekend for my niece's wedding inn Brunswick Me. Beautiful wedding and reception. We then had a family GTG on Sunday at one of my other niece's and her husband. Beautiful weather. I told my family that if the could guaranty that weather for most of the year I'd move back in a NewYork minute.
Nancy. I know about the winters, but my son doesn't want to stay in So Cal when he gets his PHD, so I'll no longer have anything to tie me here. Besides, if I'm retired and it snows or rains, I'll just stay home (or go to Europe).
Cheers
Art

Jen Jun 11th, 2001 06:43 PM

I'd be up for a Boston get-together...wearing my new pin of course!

Betsy Jun 11th, 2001 07:18 PM

Art!

Are you coming to the SF gathering on July 26? Do!

jill Jun 11th, 2001 07:22 PM

i am in Portland right now but live in Boston- I am game!

Neal Sanders Jun 12th, 2001 04:40 AM

Ummm, did anyone have a date in mind?

stacey Jun 12th, 2001 04:45 AM

Portsmouth NH sounds like it might be good......

Neal - we're thinking early Sept.

Jen Jun 12th, 2001 05:22 AM

Stacey - please keep me in the loop about this...early September is tough for me, but I think it would be fun to meet everyone!

nancy Jun 12th, 2001 07:53 AM

Sounds better and better!
Would love to see you nano, and this would be a fun way to do so.
Audrey, I am just north of Bratt!
so, you are really only about an hr away.
Art,
I completely understand, about location/ being home for children, etc.
And you are so right!
You can do what a good many smart ones do up here, , and leave for brief respites during those LONG winter months!
So, of course you can make it back to N.E, for this.
It would be fun to meet you.
Hope this flies!!
I have always been so envious of all the "big city" folks , with their get- togethers!
Thanks Stacey for bringing this up!
