Boston Area Get Together
 

Okay - it seems Atlanta has their plans well under way for a get together. Is anyone out there in the New England area interested in having one?

C'mon you Bostonians, get it together. I'm thinking of retiring back to New England as most of my family is in that area so I expect to see other Fodorites there!!! <BR>Cheers <BR>Art <BR>

Stacey, <BR>i live in Southern VT, so a 2+hr drive does not seem too bad to me! <BR>When were you thinking? <BR>We are going to Italy soon, ewill not be back until the 10th july, then my husband is telling the children he is divorcing me! <BR>(Long story posted here under other threads) <BR>BUT, even though i have lived in VT for 30 yrs, I do not know my way around Boston well. <BR>but, since I am going to italy, and will be negotiating the streets of Rome, and driving to the Naples airport to pick up a friend, I think I can be adventurous enough to try Boston! <BR> <BR>Good idea. <BR>If it does not fly right away, let's keep trying, maybe some people are away on vacation. <BR>I do not want to wait until Art retires "back home" for one. <BR>Art, <BR>Do you really want to retire back to the land of cold and leafless (for half the year) trees?! :)

Nancy - I've been following your plans for Italy closely. Fingers crossed for you that is all goes well. <BR> <BR>I'm thinking early September. I'm going to be away on business from the 12th of July through the 30th and our fiscal year ends 30 Aug - so that month will be busy. <BR> <BR>Don't worry - I live 45 minutes from Boston and I know it about as well as I know London - and seeing I've only been there twice...... Stacey, yes keep me in the loop. I may try to be the first to visit all GTG areas. I was just back there this weekend for my niece's wedding inn Brunswick Me. Beautiful wedding and reception. We then had a family GTG on Sunday at one of my other niece's and her husband. Beautiful weather. I told my family that if the could guaranty that weather for most of the year I'd move back in a NewYork minute. <BR>Nancy. I know about the winters, but my son doesn't want to stay in So Cal when he gets his PHD, so I'll no longer have anything to tie me here. What if...I took a chance and suggested Sunday, September 16th at Noon? In Portsmouth, NH. After all, we Fodorites are darn good travel planners and we like to look forward to our trips months in advance, so voila, here's another adventure to get excited about! Would this date work for you?

Hi Stacey, et al. Please count me in as well. I am taking a year long leave of absence from my job starting in early July (and then leaving for Europe 3 days later!) so anytime works for me. Boston area is probably better. After Labor Day is also better (family reunion time). The above e-mail address is good. <BR> <BR>You may want to post this on the US forum as well. There are a few regular Boston/ New England posters who might be interested.

I'll vote for a weekend event so the locals don't have rush around and get home to put kids to bed. <BR> <BR>Also a lunch would leave the afternoon available for talk. <BR> <BR>Hotels in NH about 1/3 the cost of hotels in Boston which is a big factor for me. Hi Stacey, <BR>Got your e-vite. A mid-week get together would be a little tricky, so hopefully there's a weekend date we can all agree on.

I think we can safely say Sunday, Sept. 16 around 1 (ish) in Portsmouth NH. I'm researching places now. I'm kind of swamped at work trying to plan for a trade show the last two weeks in July. So, it may be early August before I send out an official evite to everyone. I'll send it to everyone who's responded here and to my personal email addresses. <BR> <BR>If anyone has suggestions about where to go for lunch, let me know. Really looking forward to this...
