Armchair travel - Photos from the UK

I'm really enjoying the other armchair travel/photo threads so thought I'd start one about the UK

I'll start with a few shots of Scotland. These aren't my 'best photos ever' but are mostly places that have special meaning to me . . . (Hoping Gardyloo checks in because from other threads I know he has tons of gorgeous pictures)

Beautiful pictures janisj and thanks for posting them. It's dull and dreich here in Scotland today and they fair cheered me up during my 12 weeks lock-down. BTW, I'd have laughed out loud if you'd put up some of Kames and Tighnabruaich - there's memories for you!. Next week my nephew was taking me down to Crossraguel, one of my favourite places and I know you've visited. It's cancelled of course but that is something to look forward to when this madness ends.

A couple from the southernmost peninsula of Skye (I forget the name) taken along an often overlooked road that runs on the west side of the peninsula, around Tarskavaig and Tokavaig.

:). - My photos of Kames/Tighnabruaich are are prints/negatives/slides which I haven't digitized. I didn't get my first digital camera til somewhere around 2005 or thereabouts. But even after that I still used my beloved Pentax slr with ALL those heavy lenses. The 'good old days' of traveling with 36+ rolls of film in 3 or 4 different ASA and lead bags for the high ASA rolls. Half my carry on would be full of camera/case/lenses/filters/film.

twk: I must have 20+ photos from that very same spot at the Qriraing. Some with brilliant blue sky, some with clouds and overcast, and a few where you can't see a darned thing other than the little peak in the foreground.

I love LOVE your puffins :)

How can they not make you smile.

Not been to Skomer -- the one time I had hoped to visit when staying a couple of days in St Davids the weather was pretty awful - But I have seen puffins up close in other places, especially on the Isle of May.

ms_go Mar 26th, 2020 06:18 PM

I used to go to London regularly for work, but I haven't been to the UK for work or fun in a number of years. We have two trips planned for later this year. I'm hopeful for the second one. I'm not so hopeful for the first, which would be in June for the Cubs-Cardinals game. We'll see. The two photos below are among the travel photos on our walls.

Thanks Janis! Indeed in person puffins more than lived up to their comical appearance in photos. We had a wonderful day on Skomer and incredibly fortunate to get out there. The four days on either side of our visit they didn't sail. We met a couple in St. Davids who drove down there one of those days and were turned back.
