I'm not sure, but I think it is America's answer to Ozzie Osborne and family...

BigAleinstein Aug 4th, 2013 11:27 AM

You have to pass a test to get into MENSA.

BigAleinstein Aug 4th, 2013 11:29 AM

What is a kardashian?

The main reason why America is becoming a second rate country.

bilboburgler Aug 4th, 2013 11:42 AM

no really?

BigAleinstein Aug 4th, 2013 12:02 PM

They are a family on a TV reality show without any visible talent, brains, or shame.

RM67 Aug 4th, 2013 12:52 PM

I love that description :-P

Aramis Aug 4th, 2013 12:59 PM

Enough is enough, I guess. No more from me on the debate. I voted my common choices.

BigAleinstein Aug 4th, 2013 01:06 PM

Thanks RM67.

So BigAl, like the Munsters.

BigAleinstein Aug 5th, 2013 04:30 AM

So BigAl, like the Munsters.
_____

The Munsters? Did that 50 year old TV show just get to the UK?

The Munsters was harmless idiocy. The Kardashians, for some inexplicable reason, are the fodder of gossip and voyeuristic interest. They are the epitome of America's vapid pursuit of nothingness.

I am having a hard time listing my favorite cities in order. I know I'd put Rome first, but am finding it challenging to rank the others. And I know I am overthinking this, but can't seem to mix the smaller towns within the larger cities, so I'm making two lists, neither of which are in order.

Cities:

Rome
Paris
Venice
Munich
Prague
Vienna
Florence
London
Antwerp
Madrid

For smaller towns:

Brugge
Cesky Krumlov
Berchtesgaden (area, not the town itself)
Cochem
Soglio
Wengen
Rothenburg
Chania
Bath
Toledo

Improviser Aug 5th, 2013 07:18 AM

Some comments make no sense.

Most people want to go to BIG cities in Europe because that is were they can examine cultural pursuits--museums, plays, opera, ballet, concerts; dine in top restaurants, visit famous sites like the Eiffel Tower or Piazza San Marco.

There is also public transportation in big cities.

I don't want to rent a car on holiday.

I work in one of the largest cities in the US and I spend a lot of my time in commuter traffic.

Driving is the last thing I want to do in a foreign location.

And, quite frankly it is none of your bloody business how I like to travel anyway.

mominnie Jan 13th, 2015 10:39 PM

Hi guys
Can you help me. I have never been to Europe but plan to go next year. I will be starting in Brussels and want to see France Spain Amsterdam and Portugal. What do you recommend or should I avoid. To make it more difficult for you I have about 2 weeks . You're all so knowledgeable. Would appreciate your help.

cdnyul Jan 14th, 2015 01:11 AM

From recent travel I can only think of a few:

Merida
Brussels
Kraków
Toruń

Thirty five to forty years ago I would had added:

Amsterdam
Florence

This days, when we travel we try to avoid tourist crowds like a plague.
So even though it is possible, no weekends in Paris or London, and other assorted "cheeseburger, cheeseburger" destinations.

We were in Europe when this thread started. Thus the tardy response. I'll say Beitostolen Norway. Very outdoorsy. Hard to buy alcohol though.

And Reykjavik. The outdoors thing again.

PalenQ Jan 14th, 2015 07:14 AM

momninie - You should start a new thread with something in the title about what you are looking for - this thread is old and many will not see your query here.

Cheers,

Jayhawk25 Aug 7th, 2015 01:53 AM

Out of the big European or capital cities i've been to

1) Prague
2) Budapest
3) Florence
4) Amsterdam
5) Rome
6) Barcelona
7) Dresden
8) Munich
9) Berlin
10) Ljubljana

Zagreb just missed the cut for me.
Paris and Vienna are nice but they just have a vibe that I can't get into. (although Paris at night is much better)

I've also been to Athens, which is shockingly awful.
