Annoying Expedia ad on the right - is everyone else getting this?

I've just noticed a huge Expedia ad popping up to the right of every post I click on - REALLY annoying, it's pushing all the text to the left, taking longer for threads to pop iup, and it's produced a few error messages. Am I the only one? Can we campaign to get it removed?

Budman Apr 26th, 2005 08:00 AM

Yes, plus a lot of error messages due to the new change in format. ((b))

yoonny Apr 26th, 2005 08:02 AM

I just noticed the same thing. It's annonying and slows down the thread. But I doubt Fodor's will remove it since it's extra advertising $$$$ for them.

gomiki Apr 26th, 2005 08:02 AM

I was just going to post the same message. It's horrible. If it's necessary surely it could be smaller.

Chele60 Apr 26th, 2005 08:07 AM

You can put my vote in the "extremely annoying category" as well.

Makes me not want to use Expedia in protest!

Giovanna Apr 26th, 2005 08:08 AM

And you thought the new format for the top of the page was bad!

I couldn't believe it when I logged on this morning. This new "mess" makes it difficult to read the messages, I've had a good half dozen error messages and as others have said it slows everything down. It's awful!>:o

yk Apr 26th, 2005 08:11 AM

Yes, it's definitely WAY worse than the "roll-down" ad they had before!

Tiff Apr 26th, 2005 08:31 AM

I don't care for it myself.

And that dragon is scaring me. I read the posts and scroll down and then that dragon is in my peripheral vision, nasty!

Ugh!

bob_brown Apr 26th, 2005 08:37 AM

I tried two different browsers, and nothing obnoxious comes up. Just that ugly header with Destinations et al at the top. I must admit orange-brown on tan does not set my jollies to rolling.

HowardR Apr 26th, 2005 08:38 AM

Hey, it's their site, so they set the rules....and it cost you nothing. Go by their rule....or leave.
Besides, there are a lot of more important things in life to get upset about!

Tiff Apr 26th, 2005 08:40 AM

Oh, it's changed now to a beach scene, but I still don't care for it.

FainaAgain Apr 26th, 2005 08:42 AM

My biggest rant today: when I open an old post to see who added to it, to click on "jump to the last post" is so difficult now! I have to aim or else I'll click on that expedia ad. This is unacceptable.

maitaitom Apr 26th, 2005 08:52 AM

I have to agree with Howard on this one. This is nothing to get worked up about. I went to the Dodger game last night and the outfield wall looked like a NASCAR racing car with all the advertising. But after a few seconds, it was on to baseball, and I never noticed the advertising again (plus the Dodgers lost, which always makes me happy).

This is a good site as this one and, most importantly, it is the Fodor's Board. If they can get some extra revenue from ads, that's certainly ok by me. Grin and bear it and, who knows, maybe somehing will pop up on the right that interests you. Either that or just ignore it.

"This is a good site as this one and, most importantly, it is the Fodor's Board."

Actually, "This is a good site, and most importantly, it is the Fodor's Board."

OK, maybe they could have a deal where you could go back and correct incredibly bad sentences like the one that I posted above, but you get my drift.

We wouldn't like it if a salesman stuck his face 3 inches in front of ours to make his sales pitch.
Why should we accept it on this forum?
It's:
Annoying
Obnoxious
Impossible to get rid of
The "cancel" button doesn't work

SusanP Apr 26th, 2005 08:59 AM

Why should we accept it? Well, because it IS Fodor's forum, we pay nothing for all the great information posted here, and it definitely costs Fodor's money to keep it up and running. If you would just ignore it instead of focusing all your attention on it, you would get used to it and not notice it. Better than having Fodor's cancel the forum because it's too expensive to run.

Do they seriously think anybody who opens a thread to read will jump to paid ads?

And I hope we won't have to wait till the next April 1st to see it covered by a sticky just to be un-covered the next day.
