The hippies won! The hippies won!
The frat boys played a good game and brains did win out in the end. Great season. Best one since the beginning I thought. I think BJ and Tyler would be a very interesting pair to sit down and have a conversation with. |
I'm glad the hippies won but I still can't figure out whether they're lovers. In any event, this contest definitely proved that it is important to know your flags when traveling.

A very good test for the end. Excellent choice to have a brain exercise instead of all that constant brawn.
But I agree with Barbara. This was not my favorite race at all. Too much bunching and non-elimination overall- plus that combined result was that the wrong teams were in the final three. I agree too that Ray and Yolanda were not good enough at car/map driving to be in the final three. I did love the hippies attitude about travel and positive outlook, but really thought that the Florida boys should have won the money for this race overall. Money goes to money. I bet the hippies lost more in the stock market yesterday than they won on the program. It would have made a much bigger difference in the Florida boys' lives. I also don't think the detours are very comparable anymore. |
First of all, I am happy that the Hippies won. I was rooting for them from the get go and all things considered, I’m glad they won even though I admit that my allegiance to them in recent episodes was waning, due to their happy-go-lucky narrow escapes.
However that being said, I also feel a bit disappointed for the frat boys, for they raced very well. Considering their lack of world travel, I thought they did very well in ‘foreign parts’ and I didn’t find them inconsiderate or self centered, unlike some other racers in this season or past ones. I think what might be construed as such is part of their humor and I thought they were very funny throughout. Anyone remember their ‘Japanese dubbing’ in the car ? I think I’m disappointed at how disappointed they were at the end. Does anyone know how much 2nd place gets ? All in all, I very much enjoyed this season. |
I was really rooting for the frat boys there...teams usually bicker, but I can't remember them ever getting into arguments. They had alot of fun on the race, and were competitive every leg.
The fact that the hippies should have been gone twice makes their win bitter for me...the way they 'followed' along all the time irked me too. If you're so smart, think for yourselves. Ah well, their brains won it for them in the end, so kudos to them. |
They always have 3 non-elimination legs..which I think is good cause it keeps them guessing and remember that it saved the hippies butt twice from being eliminated. I agree about the bunching up too.
My favorite part was Tokyo. Did you see how excited he was when he finally got to tell how he'd walked the length of Japan and he spoke the language? He was beside himself. I was so excited for him. |
WIki claims that 2nd place wins $25,000 and 3rd wins $10,000, but there is no way to know how acurate that is.
Of course they did win some big prizes along the way. Keith |
sweetbippity, the frat boys followed a lot, also. Particularly last night.
The one time they were following and stopped because they thought the hippies were wrong, they arrived behind the hippies. Though the Frat Boys didn't find out until they watched the show last night. Keith |
Very happy to see hippies win. After several close calls in the other episodes, I was sure that Frats would cruise to the finish Although there were a couple of times when the Hips were a little less than "gentlemen", overall I say to myself these are guys I could travel with, and are the ones that seemed most to appreciate everything around them and respect for all of the people they met. And of course, on the last legs of the race, leaving money for Raylanda showed their heart. Frats were the best team, Hips were the nicest. Really surprised at Raylanda, they have the smarts and strength, but their navigational skills let them down.
I can't wait for the next series! I hope they have more legs of the race where the teams have to show more initiative...for example, how about leaving all of the teams off in J'burg SA with no money, and tell them they need to get to Cairo...something that allows the most creative to get an advantage....and please do something about the prizes (T-Mobile for a next to last leg??) and why give the first to arrive a first to leave priviledge, when all that happens is everybody ends up a place that doesn't open until 8 AM anyways? |
Whoo-hoo! Ray just popped the question to Yolanda on the CBS Early Show, supposedly a big surprise, even though her t-shirt matched the Tiffany's box that the ring was in. By the way she said yes.

Brilliant final road-block! Hooray for the hippies!! :-)
|
There's a difference between "being right on someone's heels" and "following". The Hippies followed. Last night, the only time I remember E&J being behind the Hippies was when they were driving in Alaska, and E&J passed them.
The Hippies didn't even see the snow shoes for how long? How many times did they walk past them? Why is it so great that the Hippies managed to do well in Japan? They were completely in their element. Remember "I feel like I've come home" or something similar. E&J were the team who did extremely well in Japan, never having been there and not speaking the language. The producers think that it makes good television to keep everyone together, but I'm tired of less-worthy teams winning because of it. They need to tweak it somehow so that the best racers actually do win. E&J's worst finish was fourth place, once. The Hippies were last twice and only survived elimination by luck, no skill involved. In the final leg, I think that nobody should lose any lead they've managed to build up. Last night when they left the capsule, their departure times should have been spaced according to how they arrived, even if that meant there would be less time between them. I think the last leg should be an extended leg and not have the worthless and embarrassing mugging in the middle. I read the TAR 10 will be on Sundays at 8pm, starting in September. I hope there's a better group of contestants. |
Are they trying to kill TAR? Sunday at 8pm is right against the extremely popular Extreme Makeover - Home Edition.
|
Sunday at 8pm has become the new crux time for fighting TV share, I guess.
AR won't be watched by me. That's either football, or all the young to mid-age adults watch HBO. Right now 8pm HBO is Soprano's. I think that this will absolutely backfire on them (CBS). It's a horrendous choice. |
Now that West Wing is off, my Sunday night is open...
|
What I dislike about it, is because the football broadcasts end at different times each Sunday, you never know what time a show will be on that night.

I'll watch TAR but have to admitt, it's NOT my favorite time slot if I got to pick. I'm burned out on Extreme Makeover Home Addition, all that screaming and crying every week..can't take it anymore (I know, it sounds cold) and West Wing is gone, and I'm done with football by that time so actually I'll have something to look forward to. A good lead in to Desparate Housewives if ABC doesn't mess around with THAT.

I'm late in posting, but I just have to add my thoughts...
Yeah to BJ & Tyler! I think that coming in last twice in non elims and then being able to come in first when it matters shows that they are great racers. I did feel for E & J when they lost. They were so close and they had come in first so many times. I would have been ok if they had won. Although I suspect they would have blown the money on women and drinks. :) How did Ray and Yolanda get this far with their bad navigation skills? When they went to Mirror Lake they were right behind the other teams, they got the same directions for the parking guy, and they were in AMERICA! How do you get lost??? I wish they would stop doing a non elim in the final leg. I think that is very hard for a team to recover from, especially when it's the final leg. I'm generally ok with the timed opening of things, even though it evens the teams up. However, I really disliked the capsule hotel. It was completely random (not like they had to wait for a business to open) and if anything it really helped Ray and Yolanda who were so far behind. I was so happy that the final task required brain power rather than luck or physical strength. I don't feel bad that the hippies finished that first because E&J were there ahead of them to start and were no where near to getting the right order. Can't wait for next season! |
What this season lacked was a "Put the teams on a crazy-packed train in India and let them figure it out" element. Why all the charter buses, rental cars, etc.? Didn't the show formerly have them take more public transportation? I guess that's probably a logistical nightmare for the production team, but it certainly is more entertaining.
Glad the hippies won. Felt bad for the Frat Dropouts; they need to go back to school! :) And poor Ray and Yolanda just seemed really exhausted. He looked a wreck in the final legs. Maybe he was too tall to get a decent night's sleep in the capsule. Their racing was always fairly inconsistent. They were a nice team, though. |
Was rooting for the hippies from the start. Though thought them a bit strange, I just appreciated their attitude and can't remember them bad mouthing one another - stupid, idiot, fool - from just about every male/female couple. Disappointed in them at time, as they didn't seem to be using their brains when it was so obvious to do so, but I guess it's not difficult to get caught up in how others are playing and following.
As to the flags, as soon as I realized what they were to do, just knew all those red, white & blue flags would mess up someone. Easy enough to figure out ours, and Australia's, but Russia and Thailand were another pair of these tri-colors. Women and booze for the Frat Boys? maybe not as one of them (not sure which) is a Mormon, and they're not supposed to be imbibbing! Though surprised to see them hot on the gals in the game and in a number of places they visited. Guess eveyone observes and they choose? Raylanda was a strange team; he a typical guy who would never ask for directions, or able to read a map... and lost his toll ticket! Duh! She was the sharper of the group. And though they did get at one another, don't recall them using foul language at one another. Sunday at 8pm is terrible, as mentioned above, with football often running over everything gets pushed back. It's not even a matter of setting the VCR or Tivo, something is going to be lost. But admittedly, this was one of the best races. Where to next? |
