Rob grew up in the Age of TV and is TV savvy. He's probably a lughead in real life, knows it, and is playing a part. Rob's acting ability, and that's what it is, has landed him on 3 television shows. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

I was out late on Tuesday night so had to tape the 2 hour episode, then turn off the car radio and avoid this thread until I watched the tape last night. Great episode, and one of the funniest ! Full of great one liners. I had to rewind the tape several times to laugh again. Some hilarious and heartwarming moments (not verbatim) : The brothers : 1. Reading clue out loud : " Proceed directly to Mom's kitchen and eat as many enchilladas as you can...." 2. To Orphanage kids : " Stay in school and don't do drugs." 3. While driving : " I'm sure Alex is going AAAARRRRGHHHH...." Then cut to Alex going " AAAARRRRGGGGH ! " Meredith : 1. " We're collecting to save the Elephant and the Rhino.....and I'm not Lion " 2. " I don't want to have my bladder in my chest cavity " 3. " Great. I've always wanted a facelift " Misc : 1. While driving in Bushland, looking out of window and spotting a Bushman : "This is Bush country, but thats definitely not Bush " 2. Lynn to Alex whilen grinding corn : " Alex, take your stick all the way out " (sorry !) 3. Amber to Rob : " Whos that up ahead ?" Rob : " It's Meredith and whats-his-name... " 4. Rob reading clue : " Look for the giant Ardivadark ..." 5. Brothers after 'spelunking' : "We look like something from Braveheart..." 6. Gretchen, with turban-like head bandage : " Oh no. I have to walk up to Phil looking like this..." I'm chuckling again.... |
I think the "facelift" line was Gretchen's and godblesser! She adds so much to the race, and we'll miss her and Meredith when they go. How touching that he was so genuinely worried about her! Anyone else notice the deep affection and concern the older teams seem to have for each other? A great role model for everyone and a reminder that aging doesn't dilute character -- just the opposite, if you had it to begin with, it gets better and better.
(End of rantish sort of rave.) |
Not ranting at all, Cassandra, ITA that some of the young 'uns should take a cue from some of the older ones.
And Shane, I agree with you about Rob. There's a lot of Love Rob/Hate Rob discussion going on at Twop, but that just means there are that many people watching the show and talking about it. (Probably what TAR had in mind all along...) |
Rob proved to be very unhandy with the spear. Shape of things to come for Amber?

I finally had time to watch the additional videos from episodes 5 & 6. The most interesting things.
In addition to Uchenna & Joyce, Ron & Kelly gave clothes to Merideth & Gretchen after their money anc bags were taken away. Uchenna & Joyce had the batteries go dead in their alarm clock and were late leaving the pit stop at the beginning of EP#5. Rob said that he thinks the boyfriends are the strongest other team and that he will yield them if he gets a chance. Tonights episode: "The teams marvel at elephants, giraffes, zebras and other wildlife roaming freely as they drive through the African bush" will be at the usual time. Tomorrow night there will be a rehash of the first 7 episodes (probably with some additional footage). Tomorrow night is one hour earlier. Keith |
Keith, It will be very interesting to see how Rob acts tonight.
Since you are up on Amazing Race, do Gretchen and Meredith get their clothes back or are they gone forever? |
Their belongings are gone until they are elominated or win the race.
I forgot to mention, the boyfriends were begging for money in the South American airport while they were waiting for their flight to South Africa. Keith |
I think I already answered this the last time you asked, but, again, their stuff is gone for the remainder of the race. They get it back afterwards.
|
I'm surprised no one has posted following the 7th leg tonight. Must be a busy night for Fodorites! It was a fairly matter of fact episode, but the animals along the road the teams followed were fabulous. Sorry to see the brothers go, as I liked them and would have enjoyed having them around longer.

Hi Giovanna! I was waiting for someone else to drag this thread up from whatever pit it falls into over a week.
My favorite line was Rob saying that none of the other teams had any affection left for him and Amber. As if they started with any! Rob and Kelly are such a Southern couple. She demands a certain level of respect that a gentleman is supposed to show to a lady. It's a pretty incredible contrast to some of the other couples who have shown each other NO respect at all. Nevertheless, her whiny, prissy, gotta-be-right attitude is annoying beyond belief. I did enjoy everyone's genuine delight at the animals. I'm sorry to see the brothers go, too, but the whole thing seemed like sort of a goof to them. |
What a wonderful episode showing the wildlife of Africa. The participants seemed to realize how lucky they were to have this experience.
I got a kick out of the teams that didn't seem to realize the goats they were milking were females! |
Unlike a lot of people, I didn't mind the boyfriends so much until they made that, "Uchenna and Joyce were born to do this comment" about the challenge where they had to carry things on their heads. That was so racist!
Ron and Kelly really irritate me. Gretchen and Meredith always seems so confused - it's a minor miracle they're still racing! |
I didn't care for the "born to it" comment, but since Uchenna said much the same thing a few minutes later.
I liked seeing the wildlife, but thought last night was very uninteresting as a race. I don't think I would want to compete in the race. You would all be complaining about my constant whining about not being able to photograph the sights I was seeing. Keith |
I positively howled watching Lynn & Alex putting on every piece of clothing on the chance of being eliminated, (then maybe not), and having all their money and clothing (except those they'd be wearing) taken from them.
And then the brothers, decided if they were going to be last and possibily eliminated that Phil would feel sorry for them in their practically naked getup and let them stay on... it wasn't to be. These teams were lucky to be driving themselves thru Botswana - from the Kalahari to Moremi - experiencing animals in their natural habitats, as well as, vehicle breakdowns. Thankfully, for visitors to Africa, rarely do they drive themselves - have driver/guides, who know these roads like the back of their hands, have a better handle on how to drive those rutted roads and rarely have breakdowns. If breakdowns do occur, they certainly don't get replacement vehicles as quickly. For me, this episode was the most adventurous... and something all who haven't been to Africa should experience at least once; I can guarantee you'll return again and again. If you'd like to consider doing so, come join us on the Africa/Middle East Board - a wealth of information there. |
Call me a reactionary, but I find it revolting when two men call each other honey and sweety. I can't stand them. I like Joyce and U best of all. They seem to have a grace under pressure that I respect. Their mutual affection is golden. Ron and Kelly are likeable although Kelly must learn not to pout when her lifemate doesn't act exactly as she wishes- no spouses are exactly perfect towards the other all of the time. Though I like the spunk of Meredith and Gretchen, Gretchen's Mid-Western whine gets under my skin. Also, I don't know why Gretchen, like 95 % of women her age, chop their hair and make themselves look ugly. Rob and Amber play the game well and will probably win but, hey, they have their million smackers. It's time for someone else to win as long as it isn't the two male sweethearts.
|
What hurts is to watch them trash those landrovers. And bitch and bitch and bitch. They are so lucky to tool out to Moremi N.P. I've driven through there many times and this show has made me antsy to go back.
|
Shane- the word isn't reactionary, it's homophoboc.
|
Sticks and stones. Thanks for the compliment.
|
Sorry, Shane, but your post dealt in negative stereotypes right down the line, as if you think -- as you apparently do -- that only sticks and stones are destructive. If you were in the race, you'd be right up there in unpopularity with all the ones considered ugly and nasty about the other players, and a lot of us would be glad to see you eliminated.
For myself, I'm also amazed that Gretchen and Meredith are still hanging in there -- each episode I fully expect them to be left in the (literally, this episode:) dust. Thought they could maybe have come up with some more interesting tasks, but given how vast things are there, maybe there just wasn't time to get them from point to point. But the animals were fantastic, and I was glad the producers kept the teams' reactions in the cuts we saw. Maybe there should have been an ostrich-wrangling task! :-D |
