You might all like to come to Perth Western Australia. Over the last 2 weeks or so we've had about 2 days when temperature was below 37celsius. Today is predicted to be the hottest for a year - 40 celsius.Standard summer in these parts!

Is it true that speech freezes at 35 below? You must have high embankments of words out there.

cigalechanta Jan 16th, 2009 02:58 PM

well thin, it's so cold and icey, I dropped my volka on the sidewalk.
Instant vodkacycle!

Here in southern Massachusetts it's 8F. Just a little chilly but we're off to southwest Florida next Saturday for a week - just to warm up.

Shanti Jan 16th, 2009 03:45 PM

It gets chilly at night in the Sacramento area - around freezing and there's been a lot of frost on my car in the early morning.

But by afternoon it's glorious. It got up to about 65 degrees F (18C) so I went for a nice bike ride along the American River.

It makes up for all those freezing winters I endured growing up in Chicago.

It was 2F about 8:00 this morning when I went out to get the paper (leaving DH sleeping under the electric blanket) and only rose to about 18 all day. That's the coldest for Kentucky in five years. The coldest I remember was in the mid-60s when we had more than a week of temps in the -20s F. When it got up to freezing (32F), it really did feel warm.

Hello Shanti, we are not getting quite as cold as you are overnight, it is around 35 degrees and around 65 degrees during the day here in Vacaville. But good heavens, we sure need some rain and it doesn't look like there is any in sight. Water rationing this summer it appears.

Hill Country of central Texas!
High of 45* today.....suppose to be 65* tomorrow .. Both feel great! no snow to deal with.
Oh, Fargo,,,,-37 ~~~ Way cold!:)

Shanti Jan 16th, 2009 04:29 PM

Hi LoveItaly,

While I'm enjoying the weather, I still wish it would rain - looks like three years of inadequate rain in a row.

I'm glad that I pulled out my lawn and put in gravel. I may not make it to Italy this year, but I can have an Italian-style garden and pretend that I'm there :-)

LoveItaly Jan 16th, 2009 07:06 PM

Shanti, that was a smart decision! My daughter the other day was worrying about their lawns this summer. I will pass on what you did and no doubt her Rome born and bred husband will relate and like the idea. My daughter won't but it seems it will be that or a dead dry lawn the way we are going.

Take care and hopefully I will see you this year.

7 F degrees below zero today
What's that, minus 22 C?

Where's Al Gore and his global warming when we need him?

Guenmai Jan 17th, 2009 01:27 PM

It's 85F/29C here in L.A. Surf's up! Happy Travels!

Shanti Jan 17th, 2009 06:01 PM

LoveItaly,

I hope we can get together - maybe there'll be another GTG soon?

I couldn't make the last one :-(

Percy Jan 17th, 2009 06:27 PM

tomboy

7 F is - 14 C

stormbird Jan 17th, 2009 07:07 PM

hi Tomboy,

yes -7F is -22C. I think Percy may have misread and didn't see the below 7F.

Anyhoo, here in Brisbane Australia it's been a very hot summer!!!
Mid 30's C but very high humidity. Not complaining though as I cannot even BEGIN to know what -37degrees is like and nor do I want to know! How DO you guys stay warm? Where do you find the motivation to get out of bed to go to work? How do you get to work - are you often snowbound in? My oh my I just couldn't imagine.

The coldest I have been in was actually Alice Springs, Central Australia where the temperature dropped to -7C and that was cold but to be honest it didn't feel as cold as approx. 0C in Boston, Mass.
I froze my buns off and had to hightail it indoors somewhere, anywhere!!!
