Has anyone ever had shortstop in Cape Verde and Tenerife?

We booked the NCL Viva next year for a transatlantic. It’s out of Puerto Rico and it’s our first transatlantic and we’re looking forward to it, especially as it’s on a beautiful new ship.

My question is has anyone ever had port stops in either Tenerife or Cape Verde? If so, can you simply get off the ship and find local tour operators on shore?

We do prefer to just wing it this way, but I’m not sure if local operators will be there like they are in many other ports, especially in the Caribbean.

Thank you

True though I’m looking for excursions by locals vs. ship tours which are usually more money.

Just keep in mind that when you do excursions on your own that the ship will not wait if you are late getting back and it would be your responsibility to get to the next port. If you book the excursion through the cruise line you have the guarantee that the ship will wait for you and the excursion operators have been checked out. I guess it’s peace mind verses saving a few bucks, good luck!

This is true.
This will be our 21st cruise and we are cognizant of that factor but it's always good advice.
We have done both ship and private excursions in the past. None of our private ones have even come close to bing late though there was some folks a few moms. ago who actually got left behind in Cape Verde because they missed the cut off time by one hour.

Thank you.

Isn't Cape Verde where those passengers got left behind because they were late back from a tour? Give yourself plenty of time as it's not a place to get stranded! Enjoy the cruise.

Yes it was. They were 1 hr. late.

We R undecided about what to do but will certainly be wary of the time if we don’t do a ship tour.

Thank you!
