We go to St Martin almost every year and have been going to Majesty for almost 6 years and have been very pleased with all of the work they have done for us. They are a family business and very professional in their attitude. I have purchased the following with them- a ladies' Citizen watch, a one carat diamond, a sapphire dinner ring, and they set the following, a topaz dinner ring, ruby earrings, an opal pendant, and pearl earrings. I also took them two rings which were missing stones and ask them to help me choose a stone for them. One of the rings was a good sterling silver but actually looked like white gold. After he looked at the setting he said - do you know that this is not white gold and since it is sterling silver I would suggest a different stone than I would have used in a white gold setting. It will be very nice but less expensive and more in line with the silver. I thought that was very honest of him. Now when we know we are going to St Martin and we are looking for something - we email them ahead of time so they can be on the look out for something nice for us. We also have found that the alcohol is a pretty good price on this island compared to some of the others - you can sometimes get an even better price if you pay cash.
On our trips in 2000 & 2004 we did noy fing much of a difference in prices with US. If you go into a city with a number of jewelers and you are buying a watch whose full retail is $450-$500 you can usually get 15% off maybe a bit more. On a $1000 watch up to 20% off.
On diamonds of qualuty F or G VS 1 or 2 I would want to buy at home and take to an independent gemologist for appraisal before finalizing the deal.
