Right on Scott!!<BR><BR>To all the complaining folks out there, don't go away mad, just go away. I come here to enjoy reading about the islands, I don't need to hear why Johnny & Suzy are tired of this site. Grow up people. Bravo on your post Scott. Someone who speaks the cold hard truth!!
zzzzz! You all must care or you wouldn't be getting so fired up about this! And if you hadn't noticed, my post was was not rude in any way. I was just stating my opinion just as you are and just as you state that everyone should be able to.
AntiAI, you can't get a true island experience with an AI but you can get one with a non AI such as Cap Juluca? How much of an island experience one gets depends on how much they decide to do outside the resort or hotel. It doesn't matter if it's AI or non AI. So quit your driveling. You think people laying on the beach all day and eating all night are having a true island experience just because they're at a non AI? Get real. And yes, you can venture out and still get your money's worth at an AI.
Anon, you're a travel professional? You've been places I've only dreamed of?? Boy am I jealous! Assuming that's what you wanted me to be when I read that post. And if you're such a professional, why in the hell are you busy here complaining about a silly little Fodors board?? Seems like to me you would be too busy counting your money or laying on a beach in a place I've never dreamed of.<BR><BR>Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.....
To the complainers on this board, I have created a new board for you just to bitch and complain at. It's at www.bitchandcomplain.com or you can try www.myshitdoesntsmell.com <BR><BR>Fits you well!
Or, check out my new board, made just for you. Simply log onto Snobs'R Us.com and let the trivial bitchin' begin.
Is this Fodors or cry-babies central???<BR>"Oh boo, hoo, hoo, I have to actually scroll a bit further and find something of interest...What will I ever do with such problems?" It's amazing to me that with all thats going on in this world, people have the audacity to whine about a message board. Have any of you crying whiners ever heard the phrase 'Don't Sweat The Small Stuuf'? It's one that you might want to look into. Try taking a look around you sometime other than your little web-surfing world, and try and get it through your shallow little skulls that most of us don't care if you're bored....
Jesus Christ. I cannot believe what this post has turned into. I was simply making a suggestion about ways to possibly improve the board and make it more efficient. And it has become a third grade playground fight complete with name-calling and childish barbs! If you don't agree, fine. If some of you are "big" enough to just overlook the posts you don't care about or that don't interest you, then why can't you do the same with this one?
Pina: In all fairness to your original post, I will respond. No, I do not think it's a good idea to have separate board for AI's. Simply because often those posts may also include questions about destinations too. That means a person who wants to know, for example, "What is Negril like and have you heard anything about Couples Negril" would have to post on two separate boards and go back and forth between the two. Just not efficient - for both the poster and the person answering questions. Nor is it necessary. The bottom line is: skip what you don't want to read. It's really quite easy.
To X Marks the Spot - I completely agree with you that neither an AI nor Cap J will give you an island experience and I have no idea why you would think my post was advocating Cap J over AI's. I am not a fan of either type of accommodation, although they have their place.<BR><BR>To get to know the islands, you don't stay in AI's or Cap J's. In fact, you don't stay in a resort at all...you choose instead a small locally-owned and operated guest house, suite, apartment or rental house. You buy veggies from the Rastas, you buy your fish from the local boats, you use the dollar busses, you go to Church and to local bars, restaurants, and jump-ups. <BR><BR>I stand, however, by the original point of my post - there are a lot of questions about the same accommoation options - e.g. Sandals, Beaches, Cap J, Biras, Peter Island - that are either from lazy posters or that do the poster a disservice by not indicating the research they have already done. When someone takes the trouble to research and indicate what they have already learned, and what they need to know, then it makes it easier for people to give a helpful response instead of platitudes.
AntiAI: You have clarified your point. The fact is, in your earlier post, you said you could not get a true island experience with an AI. That's it - only AI's. You said nothing about non AI's. <BR><BR>I also want to point out that your idea of a true island experience may be different than somebody elses. While your idea may be more "true," other posters may simply want to sample the local food and drink, and do a couple excursions and that is their idea of a true island experience. You should not get on their back or condemn them because their idea is different. Maybe they're using the wrong term and instead you could politely inform them and help come up with a term that best describes what they're looking for. <BR><BR>When someone asks about a true island experience, instead of criticizing them, ask them what their idea of a true island experience is.
To Merv (aka X marks the spot?): Just to clarify that at the time I made my original reply, the discussion to that point was only about AI's. So non-AI's weren't even on the radar screen. The thread has evolved or, if you prefer, degenerated since then.<BR><BR>I do agree that there are many different versions of what a 'true island experience' is. And I do agree that dialogue is preferable to a war, when sorting out differences.<BR><BR>That said, if I recall correctly, the post that I found absurd was pretty clear in defining a 'true island experience' as being at an AI and lying around on a beach or in a hammock being waited on hand and foot by friendly servers. And, again, if I recall correctly, the poster got feedback very much along the lines you suggest.
To AntiAI---I really hope that you are not lumping Cap Juluca into the AI category. IT ISN'T.
AntiAI: Point well taken. (And yes the aka was me also. Too quick with the fingers I guess). <BR><BR>Huh: AntiAI did not mention CJ at all. It was me who brought it up as an example of a non AI that isn't his/her idea of the true island experience.
What if, in addition to the Search headings of island names, they added "all inclusive"? Then folks could search there/post there for AI only answers...
The original poster, Pina and Anon were not complaining. They were stating a fact that this has turned into the All Inclusive Question board. Sorry but Anon gave some very excellent resources, and did not complain about this site. It is true, not that long ago there were more diverse posts and as of late the questions are on the "lazy" side. It would be in all of our best interests if at all possible to do a search before posting. It keeps the flow of questions more interesting for the poster and the reader alike. <BR><BR>I do think that there have been many responses to this post that have been on the "pot stirring" side. It has turned a post that was an observation then some posters gave some great research info, into a name calling bash. Its funny but the posters that are complaining and name calling are doing just that. Fodors is not the only site for research. If Scott has some better ideas other than name calling and spewing anger, I for one would love to hear them. It is quite a shame as to what has happened to this board. It is not a matter of leaving it or going away it is a matter of controlling your anger and name calling. This post started out very innocent and civil and has turned into a nasty name calling bash. You should really be ashamed.
So...Referee...following your advice, why not respond to the ideas posted, rather than the nasty diatribes? Whaddya think of an extra search choice (A/I)?
Would - I think adding the extra search choice is a good idea. What do you do? Submit the suggestion to Fodor's?
My, my, people are so funny! Now if we could all just get to the business of travel talk.....wherever it may be and by whatever means people choose. I'd hate to be new at something on this board, you'd get eatin alive for asking a Sandals question. I would think we'd all have something more important going on in our lives than busting someone for their opinion. I think this is a travel board so people should talk about travel with an occasional difference of opinion and get on with it.
