I can't imagine any of us traveling to Cuba in the near future to not be worried about these viruses.
Some hope on the horizon for Cubans at least...
Clinical trial begins in Matanzas with Cuban drug Jusvinza

Terry, it is now over a month since you started this thread. What are you hearing from the ground in Cuba? Is the situation starting to get a little better?
Hey! Hey! CubanWaters, yes, the situation there has begun to get better with the cooler and dryer weather that's now moved in. The mosquitoes have begun to go dormant, or at least less active. My wife has told me that there's someone struggling with the aftermath of contracting the Chikungunya virus within every other casa in our barrio now. And of course, each with varying degrees of severity too. My wife has it BAD! Although all of the other initial symptoms have now cleared for her, she's been left with the severe joint, bone, and muscle pain - and swelling of her hands and feet too - on a reoccurring basis. She has good days, and bad days... but sometimes relapsing back to being almost bedridden again.
Ironically, she has gone to the policlinico on a number of occasions to receive an injection of something that helps her immensely with that pain - but it only lasts for a couple of days though. I don't know what that injected pain reliever is, but thank God they have something there that helps her. But I'm sure it's not the Jusvinza that you linked in your earlier post. My wife has completely run out of her ibuprofen that I left for her, although apparently that was only putting a mild dent in the level of pain that she's been suffering. Her mother had contracted the Chikungunya too, but has made a much better recovery - again attesting to how it affects people differently. The worst case scenario is that wife struggles with that daily pain for up to 1 1/2 years - like my best friend's wife did - she originally from the DR. The average length of time for a full recovery is 7 months. Terry

Man o man Terry, that all sounds terrible! What can I say? Good to hear that the situation is getting better but how much better? Here's hoping that your wife recovers quickly and that you nor I nor Simon or anyone else gets infected. I am trying to educate myself as much as possible.
Perhaps I spoke too soon, CW. Yesterday my wife let me know that Yordani has now contracted the chikunguna... simply "the virus" as everyone in Cuba now refers to it. Yordani is the big dude built like the terminator who was turning our pig on the spit last year in my earlier posted fotos. So I guess the mosquitoes are still there and still active enough. Yordani is also our good friend who regularly brings the dead chickens to my wife each day to serve as dog food for our 3 boxer dogs. He works at the chicken egg laying facility in Camaguey out in the campo and puts the dead birds he finds in a sack at the end of his shift. Perhaps the mosquitoes are worse out there because my wife also told me that they just fumigated our casa again and everyone else's casa in our barrio too. CW, what's the old adage?? On a wing and a prayer?? That'll be all of us soon. Terry
The threat of these mosquito viruses is the reason that we didn’t take our most recent vacation in Cuba. We hope to go back to Cuba near the end of this winter. Hope you have a good vacation Terry. Stay safe.
Thanks Wess! Just counting the hours now. Have to visit my office one last time tomorrow to collect an expense cheque, print some PR related documents to take with me, wish everyone feliz navidad, and get my home PC tower into the repair shop to have it upgraded to Windows 11 with a new compatible processor added while I'm away. Then it's off to YYZ tomorrow night in an Uber. Cuba beckons! Pray for me! jaja Terry .
