Coming back after tonight's loss (the last three games were ugly, uglier and ugliest!) is a mountain to climb...but the Sox did it before vs Yanks in '04...there is still hope, flickering dimly.

Now would be another good time to invoke the spirit world. Thanks for all the help so far.

GPanda:

Close one for six innings tonight...then blew it open...bring on the Rockies!

Go Red Sox Nation..

A classic confrontation awaits i.e., Kharma v. Destiny. The Rockies are a Cinderella team. However, the Red Sox will never be a wicked step-mother or similar evil-doer.

bookchick Oct 22nd, 2007 04:24 PM

I'm delighted the Sox won, but I hope they pack their parkas for their debut in the series at Coors Field. My best friend lives in Denver and they had a few inches of snow over the weekend, and she said the temps out there are still plenty cold!

More prayers for the Red Sox please! I think we're onto something here.

ggreen Oct 22nd, 2007 05:49 PM

Go Sox - woohoo!!!

I will pass on the word to my devoutly Hindu friends to put the Red Sox in their prayers. :D

DonTopaz Oct 23rd, 2007 01:53 AM

Rockies may well be a Cinderella team. But in the rough-and-tumble neighborhood in Newton where I grew up, pumpkins got smashed on Hallowe'en.

Whatever that means.

Gpanda Oct 23rd, 2007 07:38 AM

We are seeking positive Kharma. The smashing of pumpkins does not fall under that category. The path to victory is 6the high road.

For thoise who do not know, the hard-scrabble streets of Newton, MA are populated by wealthy surburbanites. It's about halfway, literally and spiritually between Cambridge and Needham

Who ya kidding Rizzuto? Gpanda describes Newton point on! I did some practice teaching at the old NHS in 1951...no Newton South at that time.

Of course, for the uninformed, Newton is made up of many Newtons (Auburndale,Waban, West Newton, Newton Highlands, Newton Center, Newton Upper Falls, Newton Lower Falls,Isaac Newton and Fig).

Being from lowly Quincy, whenever we dated a "Newton girl" we shaved and wore clean clothes. Worse than that, I married a Brookline girl!

Higher plane, higher plane. Look for the good in other posters. While I* suspecyt that Don (Rizzutto) knew he would spark a flame with his Newton reference, I won't even mention it. I "know" he has the RS best interests in mind and seeks the path of righteousness.

ggreen Oct 23rd, 2007 09:28 PM

rizzuto, I think there's footage of your rampaging Newtonites here:

Oh wait - higher ground, higher ground... Let me be pure of thought and intention...

Were there the two schools Newton North and South when you grew up there? South was always our big homecoming rival. (Not that I knew one iota about football back then: the 80's were not memorable years for the Pats, that's for sure!)

Go Sox!!! :)

DonTopaz Oct 24th, 2007 05:16 AM

While seeking the path of righteousness, I am well satisfied in stumbling upon the road that leads vaguely home.

As for the Hose, I understand none of this. Most people seem to actually expect the Sox to win. I almost long for the days when we all knew, for an absolute certainty, that the Hammer of Fate would always strike. And you had no choice but to watch. You never knew how or when, but you knew it would. It might be Bucky Dent or Bill Buckner or Jim Burton or a more likely candidate such as Bob Gibson. (<b>tower</b> would like add Denny Galehouse.) But now everything is changed, as if it's a Bizarro Bosox. Opposing teams' line drives go straight into Boston gloves. The other team's 3rd-base coach who makes a disastrous blunder. JD Drew gets his first clutch hit of the year.

The world is upside-down.

DonTopaz Oct 24th, 2007 05:23 AM

And ggreen, there were 2 schools in my day, Newton High School and Newton South -- I went to the former (tower, fyi, I was in Bacon House, in Bldg 3).

Gpanda Oct 24th, 2007 11:19 AM

Clear the mind of all negative thoughts (Rizutto, I know this runs against many years of RS history). Belief is not encumbered by reason, either deductive or inductive. Purge all memories of horrors past (too numerous to list). Allow the life force to flow through. We are not seeking to crush or humilaiate the Rockies, merely to congratulate them on coming ever so close to a championship.

Craig Oct 24th, 2007 12:40 PM

I thought the season was over. Is there a game on tonight?

DonTopaz Oct 24th, 2007 01:20 PM

You were quite right, Craig. For some, the season has been over for a couple of weeks.

p.s.: How is Ronan Tynan keeping himself busy?

Craig Oct 24th, 2007 02:11 PM

Well he's obviously not singing &quot;God Bless America&quot; at Yankees games.

Unfortunately &quot;Sweet Caroline&quot; is the song of the day...

Gpanda:

Whaddya call a 13-1 spanking? Seems like some sort of insidious humiliation, doesn't it. One down, three to go!

Rizzuto: Do you recall Floyd Rinker (English), and a Mr. Ludwig (History)? These were my two practice teaching sponsors at NHS in '51.

Denny Galehouse!! Hadn't heard that name for over 50 years...Unfortunatel, I was visiting Boston for my QHS 40th reunion when that Buckner disaster occured..ugh!

On the higher plane...

May the RS be centered like the terra cotta warriors...be the ball...experience the seams on the ball as you hit it out of the park, o mighty Red Sock...be centered..you are the center...of the playing field!
