Gpanda Gets Cheer

I had an MRI today that showed that the tumor actually got smaller when compared to the size prior to radiation, chemo and experimental drug. This is the best possible news. Beth and I are ecstatic. It will give us an opportunity to return to Asia. Thanks to everyone (with one notable exception) that gave me so much emotional support. The original cheer thread really helped Beth and me.

BTW, Amy, the editor, said Fodors would extend some leeway in allowing this thread to exist on the Asia Forum.

Thanks again. The penalties will continue to be assessed!

dgunbug Jun 24th, 2010 12:46 PM

Great news Gpanda!

ekscrunchy Jun 24th, 2010 12:47 PM

Let me be the first to congratulate you! I guess we will have to endure more of your barbs and silliness for some time to come!!!

Craig Jun 24th, 2010 12:55 PM

Fantastic! We look forward to helping you plan that next trip.

kmkrnn Jun 24th, 2010 12:59 PM

Eks...you have to endure his barbs and silliness on line....try it is person. As we have said before, Bless St Beth. Now maybe we can get them to be in BKK in Nov along with the rest of us for a big Fodors GTG.

Kathie Jun 24th, 2010 01:01 PM

That's wonderful, Andy!

I hope you'll be at the Bangkok gtg in November.

sf7307 Jun 24th, 2010 01:05 PM

I don't even "know" you but I'm very happy for you :-)

kja Jun 24th, 2010 01:20 PM

Congratulations! And thanks for sharing the great news.

thursdaysd Jun 24th, 2010 01:29 PM

Congratulations! And best wishes for a great Asian trip.

jules39 Jun 24th, 2010 01:42 PM

Job well done!! Fantastic news. All the very best to you & Beth. CONGRATS!!!

glover Jun 24th, 2010 02:23 PM

This is great news panda. I started lurking here just as you were diagnosed, and I got caught up in all the wonderful messages and repartee that followed.

Only just now getting down to brass tacks of planning of Jan/Feb trip to SEA. .

LAleslie Jun 24th, 2010 02:54 PM

So we don't have to write any more limmericks?

Be well.

hawaiiantraveler Jun 24th, 2010 03:09 PM

Great news, this calls for a amnesty period on late trip reports.......maybe the Celtics and Red Sox will take heed and stop coming in second....couldn't resist, lol.

Now let the Asia planning begin!

Aloha!

cruisinred Jun 24th, 2010 03:14 PM

Awesome! Great news.

ekscrunchy Jun 24th, 2010 03:21 PM

I'm all for the amnesty!

Gpanda Jun 24th, 2010 03:55 PM

No amnesty! The usual penalties apply.

There once was a Fodorite diminshed
Who's trip report never got finished.
The penalty was high
Didn't even try
But was well aware that she had sin-ished.

What, you thought brain cancer would improve my sense of humor?

Thanks for the good wishes.

Marija Jun 24th, 2010 03:56 PM

Wonderful!

Hanuman Jun 24th, 2010 04:06 PM

Very good news Andy!

DonTopaz Jun 24th, 2010 04:22 PM

That is very, very good to hear.

abby97 Jun 24th, 2010 04:23 PM

That's great news! I am new to the Asia forum and am very much enjoying getting to know the wonderful "family" of posters on this forum. Best wishes to you, Gpanda.

sandy_b Jun 24th, 2010 04:25 PM

I am so happy for you . . . I hope you continue to receive great reports! Here's wishing you many, many more wonderful trips.

And . . . many, many more entertaining trip reports.

Sandy (in Denton)

tengohambre Jun 24th, 2010 05:35 PM

Outstanding! We are very happy. Time for a pad thai and some ice cream! Start with the ice cream, you deserve it.

kuranosuke Jun 24th, 2010 05:50 PM

bravo! andy. now lets go to bangkok and give the girls at the bamboo bar you-know-what.

MaryW Jun 24th, 2010 06:08 PM

Wonderful wonderful news panda - are they sure it was the tumor and not the brain that has reduced in size?

Looks good for asia again. Where to go - where to go!

barefootbeach Jun 24th, 2010 06:54 PM

Thanks for sharing the great news! Your remarks are always fun to read.

Robbietravels Jun 24th, 2010 07:19 PM

Great news Andy. I think your position as self appointed enforcer of trip report misdemeanors and felonies comes with some added responsibilities. I think we should require you to submit your trip report on your next Asia sojourn before you leave home.

rivet Jun 24th, 2010 08:02 PM

Well panda, isn't this exciting news! A star patient, indeed.

laurieco Jun 24th, 2010 09:15 PM

That is FANTASTIC Andy!!! I am so happy to hear this news. We can't wait to see you and we expect you to be in top form. No special niceties towards his Bobness allowed.

Keep up the good work! ((Y))

Smeagol Jun 24th, 2010 09:34 PM

Muffin and I are so pleased for you, Hope to see you both ion BKK in November!!

magical Jun 24th, 2010 11:00 PM

Great news...good luck with all the procedures.

filmwill Jun 24th, 2010 11:07 PM

Congrats on the great news, Andy! I trust this means you'll be egging on my DH with anti-Caroline taunts in no time at all?

We're with you in spirit!

Guenmai Jun 25th, 2010 12:12 AM

Congrats! Happy Travels!

FurryTiles Jun 25th, 2010 12:52 AM

Such an excellent outcome, Mr Panda! So happy to hear the good news - sounds like all your treatment enhanced the Panda-influence to sway even our new Fodor's posting rules and editors.

Way to go! And Asia awaits you with open-arms

AskOksena Jun 25th, 2010 01:38 AM

>>>Gpanda Gets Cheer<<<

(Have you been secretly flying of late with those sensational Singapore Girls or what?! 'Doctor's cure', indeed.)

Now, warm greetings Andy, and warm congrats on your fine prognosis! And, suppose you know what that means: SQ First/Business long-hauls all the way from N.A. to beloved Asia!

Once back in The Promised Land, a garden of joyous, fun-loving Asian 'masseuses' awaits. (And, suspect I can show you a few hidden SIN and BKK (and even HKG, NRT, and ICN) 'parlours' for your 'recovery'. Sure to provide cheerful, uplifting treatments. (Best to send Beth on various shopping missions.)

Of late, recent SIA promos for those flying ex-JFK and EWR to Asia. Kindly check 'em out over on singaporeair.com , and thanks in advance for booking with SQ and for supporting various Asian economies. A beloved cousin (a rather severe cancer survivor) and her husband and two children recently completed five nights at the now more 'guest friendly' Oriental hotel (thanks, partly to me) in Bangkok. (And yes, I lured them into flying SQ for most of their sectors - most satisfying.)

All the best my friend, stay away from those vegas tables (Asia only, via SIA), and cut back on those fat cancer sticks - longer life, means more Girl flying opportunities!

I'm off this evening on another SQ flight (guess the city and number), so will send early warm weekend wises to you and all in family friendly fodorland.

Great new Panda. I was at Brigham and Women's for an appt. on 6/23 and thought good thoughts and positivity about you. It's a great hospital isn't it?

Continue doing well! :)

simpsonc510 Jun 25th, 2010 05:14 AM

Such great news, Andy! Yippeee!
See you in October.

Gpanda Jun 25th, 2010 09:05 AM

Thanks for all the support. Welcome to the newcomers. I'm sure you will discover that this forum enhances Asian vacations. The posters are informed, friendly and helpful. Just ask away with your questions. Don't worry if any question seems stupid, Bob (RhkKmk) has been posting unbelievable dumb stuff for years. We will roll with the punches.

I have another important scan on July 22, 201o, so I hope you did not use up all your mojo on the first scan. I need help on that one as well.

I can't ever promise to be in top form, but I do hope that I will be in my usual form. I leave it to some others to judge. Neither Beth nor Bob get a vote.

dreaming Jun 25th, 2010 09:08 AM

Great news Panda! I'll be sending positive vibes for the second scan...

Gpanda Jun 25th, 2010 01:20 PM

Bob just proposed to Beth that we join them for their entire fall Asia vacation. My first thought was "Haven't I suffered enough?" There is a constitutional prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. Do Needhamites still believe in the constitution?

Positive vibes for the second scan are very welcome.
