Becalm Jun 29th, 2010 01:11 PM

Since you are not 100% on board with an article GP, you have your answer. Its great to want to help others but need to put your own well being first. If you feel benevolent, do some pro bono work or cut Bob some slack instead.

dogster Jun 29th, 2010 01:51 PM

Yup, I'm with becalm. Stay focussed, tough and dangerous. Think only of yourself. When it's all over and you can say with pride 'I'm a survivor' then go public. Do not divert.

Dog knows about this.

bookchick Jun 29th, 2010 03:57 PM

<< do some pro bono work or cut Bob some slack instead>>

Becalm, you do realize it's Gpanda you're talking to here, right?????

where were they when I was young and pretty?

Campaigning for Dewey against Truman.

bookchick Jun 29th, 2010 05:56 PM

Oooo, Don, that was surgical!

Very happy to read the good news and keeping my fingers crossed for the next test.

As for the article--is it possible to read some other articles by the writer? You have misgivings now and it certainly will be an invasion of privacy to a certain extent. Checking out the writer and where he/she publishes may tip the scales definitively one way or the other.

Gpanda Jun 29th, 2010 06:01 PM

Their moms were campaigning for Dewey. Luckily, they all had flowers in their hair and a panda-struck look in the eyes. I was a teen-ager during the best possible time in the history of Man and Woman.

I'm talking to the magazine guy on Thursday. He will have to convince me that there's some significant benefit is an article. Good luck to him.

rhkkmk Jun 29th, 2010 07:06 PM

who are you kidding.... you can't wait till he asks you about the center fold pics...

remember, he does the interviewing....don't lead him or overpower him.... its his article...

zainib Jun 29th, 2010 07:10 PM

If the magazine guy is the same one who interviewed Gen. McChrystal, make sure you don't let him talk to your entourage!

hawaiiantraveler Jun 29th, 2010 08:13 PM

Just a larger audience for the muscle trick I am sure.....

Aloha!

Gpanda Jun 30th, 2010 01:21 AM

The muscle trick does not ranslate well to photographs. Gladly, there is no panda entourage. They would just annoy me.

Amy Jun 30th, 2010 01:37 AM

I'm so happy to hear that things are going well. Yay for planning Asia trips!

robmac Jul 4th, 2010 11:41 AM

Iris and I are so happy for you both. This is the best possible news. All going well we hope to see you in October. I am not sure when I am going to Scotland.

Gpanda Jul 4th, 2010 02:39 PM

Thanks Robmac. Give Iris our best. Hope to see you in October. Why am I hoping to go to Thailand with Bob in November? Apparently, pandas do not learn from past mistakes.

LAleslie Jul 4th, 2010 06:50 PM

Check out the writer carefully. Is the publication reputable? Asks for clips or look his work up on Google.

You can expect to get letters and phone calls from supportive people who have gone through similar experiences (and maybe a felon or two, though they usually write women). Do you want that? Will your going public help other people? Will it increase your billable hours (sympathetic readers who need a lawyer)? Do you enjoy attention?

cynstalker Jul 5th, 2010 07:06 AM

Oh, so glad to read this - it's great news Andy.

Take care!

Wow GP! I logged into search for some travel advice for Turkey (we are thinking of going this winter) and of course I also searched for all Panda related threads. I am super impressed by the outpouring of Fordorite cheer.

Gpanda Sep 1st, 2010 11:20 AM

This and a few other threads have been a great source of cheer to me in these very trying times. I am grateful that the editors have allowed these threads to continue. It fosters my sense (and perhaps some others) of community. That word is used by Fodors to describe this forum and I can feel as if I belong.

bookchick Sep 1st, 2010 11:33 AM

<<I can feel as if I belong>>

You do belong Gpanda. Who else would Bob make fun of if you weren't here? (Feel free not to answer that, it's a rhetorical question.)

rhkkmk Sep 1st, 2010 04:15 PM

BC for one....

bookchick Sep 1st, 2010 05:04 PM

Yes, Einstein, we know. Apparently you don't know what "rhetorical" means. Ask Karen, I'm sure she'll tell you!

Hiya G. I know you're not fond of me, but id like to at least have a cup of java with u some day.

rhkkmk Sep 1st, 2010 08:06 PM

isn't it something that occurs during a revolution???

bookchick Sep 2nd, 2010 05:57 AM

You're getting warmer, Bob, you're heading in the right direction now....

BC

Gpanda Sep 2nd, 2010 07:07 AM

Mango-I am completely neutral on you. You get a star in my book for being a regular with some original ideas. I'd be very pleased to grab a cuppa with you. If you're ever in Boston, let me now. You'll be able to figure out my Asia trips from this forum, if we match, I'd welcome an opportunity to meet you. Remember, I'm good friends with the hateful RhkKmk. I have low standards.

rhkkmk Sep 2nd, 2010 07:38 PM

his nibs came to dinner tonight.... he was generally in good spirits and seemed much more like himself than any recent visit....this was GOOD....

it was a pleasant evening

bookchick Sep 3rd, 2010 04:30 AM

Bob? Andy? Pleasant?? All in the same sentence?? Is this a hallucination? Is the earth about to collide with another planet? Will a lasting peace in the Middle East be brokered this month???

I must go lie down now with a cold cloth on my head. These concepts all appearing in the same post have boggled my mind.

BC

Gpanda Sep 3rd, 2010 04:52 AM

Remember, I'm not yet my old fighting self. I let many of Bob's ridiculous pronouncements slide last night. Hopefully, I'll return to normal and be all over His Bobness.

rhkkmk Sep 3rd, 2010 06:40 AM

his socialism is creeping forward

bookchick Sep 3rd, 2010 07:48 AM

Whew! The Communist (he has a hat with a red star on it!) and the Conservative breaking bread together...balance has been restored to the Universe and I feel now that the earth can continue to spin on its axis.

DonTopaz Sep 3rd, 2010 08:24 AM

It's only a matter of time before the man from Needham sees the light, moves to Cambridge, and opens up his new "Borrow Whatever You Need, Invest Whatever You Can" Bank.

bookchick Sep 3rd, 2010 09:22 AM

Rizzuto, put the mushrooms and the pipe down NOW and back away slowly. Lie down, close your eyes, and wait for that feeling you expressed in your last post to pass.

BC

Mango7 Sep 3rd, 2010 01:28 PM

Ok, G, will take u up on this...

Btw, how have u tolerated Bob all these years? You must be extremely resilient.

simpsonc510 Sep 3rd, 2010 02:04 PM

mango, I'm biting my tongue here..... bwahhahahaha (sorry)

bookchick Sep 3rd, 2010 02:16 PM

Carol, I couldn't agree more!

BC

Gpanda Sep 3rd, 2010 02:40 PM

In the past I was able to tae any amount of gruff. Maybe, I still can. I always try to remember that emotions have little place in my online existence. Also, sooner or later, someone is going to write every possible offensive and demeaning reply regardless of how wrong or right they are. Water off a panda's back.

bookchick Sep 3rd, 2010 03:08 PM

It's true pandas are renowned for their coats, which are not merely aesthetically pleasing, but serve multiple purposes.

The way of the panda does not always meet the eye....

BC

rhkkmk Sep 4th, 2010 06:40 PM

the coat has a bit of mange these days....

bookchick Sep 5th, 2010 02:21 AM

None of us are what we once were. If you look back on old photos (in your case taken by Matthew Brady), you'll see what I mean.

BC

DonTopaz Sep 5th, 2010 05:21 AM

mango is on his coat? huh?
