Hey Bisbee
I'm heading to OHare in just minutes, on my way to BKK. I'll be there through the 13th. Maybe a mini GTG? Carol |
yes it was even better than what we had in india....don't know how that is possible.... maybe it was the company..
|
Dining with Beth makes everything taste wonderful.
|
As the first week in May has two holidays, chances are I'll be in Bangkok. These days, if I'm not here, I'm in Bali (yeah, yeah, my job sucks).
|
I'll be there the second week in May!
|
Michael-If you don't mind sharing, could you tell us what job you are fortunate enough to have that puts you in Bangkok or Bali in May. I was reading Ciccerone's response to a similar question on another thread, and found reading about her work history very interesting.

Hello bob & karen,
as a newcomer to the forum I would appreciate to see some of you Fodor guys personally. End of April/start of May should be doable. Since DD ( right for dear daughter?) decided to end college and not attend university for this year I can take her to Europe in June instead of March/April during school break as planned before. How to get infos about the exact when and where in Bangkok? |
Shellyk, since you asked, I'm (among other things) the international franchise director for a Thai restaurant chain. I have franchisees in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Dubai, with more on the way. Indonesia is currently the biggest operation, with more than a dozen branches. There are three on Bali alone - was just at the latest one in Ubud last week. Two more are on the way for Bali, plus plans this year for Balikpapan, Palembang, and I hope Manado.
|
mike, bring one over here. love the fried seafood/curry crab, or for that matter, just about everything on the menu.
|
Well, I do have an appointment on Thursday with someone interested in SF, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Had a lot of these conversations before, and they usually end when I tell them how much it's probably going to cost to get up and running.
|
can you tell us the names?? gpanda and i certaily would like to visit the bali ones....
where in malaysia? and also in singapore.....? bob |
Well, as long as the forum god doesn't accuse me of advertising. The chain is Black Canyon.
On Bali, two branches are in the Discovery Mall at Kuta, a small branch facing the ocean and another larger one inside. Ubud is at Ubud Point, about midway down Monkey Forest Road. We should have a small kiosk open at the airport, between international arrivals and departures (outside). Opens in March, I think. In Malaysia, we're in Ipoh, KL and JB. None of the KL branches are really in "tourist" areas. In Singapore, we're on East Coast Road (Katong) near to a lot of the famous laksa and Pernakan restaurants. |
black canyon is my favorite "chain" restaurant in bangkok. orgy introduced it to me at victory monument. (i also like mk) i love the food there.
i like to go to the one in the big c. nice, roomy, clean, and efficient. and of course, tasty. bob, when in singapore, there is one in katong. never been there, but its a nice big one on east coast road( i believe). thats the area where you can go have your peranakan meal, and famous singapore laksa. mike, i'm sure, like all franchise fees, it will be expensive. the problem is that its so expensive to start a food service business here. anyway, i'll wait till i get back to bangkok to enjoy the food at black canyon. if you are looking to open a corporate owned restaurant here, let me know. i think ht and i can give you alot of good advice. |
thanks michael....any coupons available for fodorites??? just kidding...haha...thought i would beat andy to the punch...
|
Well, if I make it to the GTG, I'll try to bring some member cards, good for 10% off when paying with cash.
BTW, we've been branching out, and just opened a full-size Gelato shop in Esplanade. It's really good, if I do say so myself. |
Bob, paying with cash? I don't think so! How could he:
1. get the points on his credit card 2. screw the people he was dining with 3. delay payments until the last possible moment. Hardly seem likely. |
he is only mad because he pee brain did not think of these things first..
|
what's a "pee brain"? new slang?
|
Bob meant "pea", meaning small...
|
au contrair.....i meant 'pee' as in both small and wet....
