TracyB Aug 15th, 2008 07:25 AM

I don't get it..why would she be banned????

Craig Aug 15th, 2008 07:33 AM

Makes no sense - lcuy has been to numerous Fodors GTG's - Boston, LA, Honolulu and has contributed much to this forum. What could she possibly have done to be banned?

filmwill Aug 15th, 2008 07:45 AM

Take it from me, it doesn't take much to get banned.

It's a bit disconcerting that bigots (and some other horrific folks) can run rampant on these boards and spew hate freely--but when others express their outrage (or defend themselves) they are the ones who get banned. At least, that was my experience.

I guess if you're polite about your hatred, it's okay.

Knowing lcuy, she was probably standing up to someone who deserved probably a lot more than they got.

Come back soon, girl, we miss you!

Jed Aug 15th, 2008 08:01 AM

Is there any warning before the axe falls? ((*))

kuranosuke Aug 15th, 2008 08:39 AM

fodor, wasamatawityou. auwe! we want lcuy!!

simpsonc510 Aug 15th, 2008 09:03 AM

well-stated, fimlwill. Ditto! (bet it's the lounge...)

rhkkmk Aug 15th, 2008 09:16 AM

she does not feel that she did anything wrong in thinking back over her recent posts....

in the past she has disagreed with people, but always in a very constructive way and gives examples of why they are wrong...

it just happens---bing---you are gone!!

fear of saying something wrong will have an effect of keeping people quiet or silent or worse taming down their constructive thoughts....we thrive on it....

as in the past the asia board is good at self-policing or ignoring difficult people....can't we please continue that?? please....blatant bad taste should of course be censored.....

Cyberia Aug 15th, 2008 09:49 AM

Someone I knew was banned without warning. It only needs a few nasty people to complain about you and you're gone. No appeal. However there are a number of other good travel forums, so Fodor's loss.

Shanghainese Aug 15th, 2008 09:52 AM

What can we do to get her un-banned? A signature-collecting campaign?!

rhkkmk Aug 15th, 2008 10:08 AM

a march on washington!!!....just a nice request to our more than fair editor katie has been done...

marya_ Aug 15th, 2008 10:12 AM

This is very distressing. The editors need to know that this has a
crippling effect and will ultimately disredit Fodor's.

We value freedom of speech and have respected Fodor's for upholding and promoting a core American value.

Whatever happened to relying on informal social controls to weed out undesirables?...Why such a heavy hand? Many of us have met "lcuy" and this feels all wrong. It feels like a disproportionate response.

easytraveler Aug 15th, 2008 10:42 AM

I agree with filmwill and Cyberia - there are groupies here who complain en masse to the editors and bingo! someone is banned, rightly or wrongly.

That's why the most egregious violators of good form or simple politeness aren't the ones who are banned, just the victims of clique action.

In fairness to the editors, they have claimed that they don't read everything that is posted, so they will respond to mass action without having the time to check into the correctness of the accusations.

yes, it's Fodors loss when the name-callers and the people who can't carry on a decent discussion or who contribute very little on travel - when these people are allowed to totally dominate and control these forums, it's Fodors loss.

Just my 2 cents' worth.

LeighTravelClub Aug 15th, 2008 10:50 AM

A search for Icuy only brings up 13 posts! At least on my pc. What's going on here? So much valuable input from this poster....just disappeared.

It's time that the moderators on this forum became accountable and offer some kind of explanation for their actions. Who's next? What heinous act has she committed?

Of course we don't all agree.....what would be the point of the forum if we did.

I've never met Icuy, but from her previous posts, I can't imagine her being intentionally offensive????

I hope that the powers that be, will relent.

Mara Aug 15th, 2008 11:11 AM

LTC - Possibly your search did not go through correctly. I just did one and I stopped paging down after the 250th post....

Gpanda Aug 15th, 2008 11:51 AM

Lcuy is a critical member of our forum. She's thoughtful, helpful and funny. FREE LCUY.

Gpanda Aug 15th, 2008 12:05 PM

I've decided to end all my posts with the hope of:

FREE LCUY

hawaiiantraveler Aug 15th, 2008 12:14 PM

Well I have met and know lcuy and I can say without reservation that she is the most thoughtful, kind and generous person you will ever want to know. We are all aware of that from her onscreen persona.

It troubles me that the editors who "control" our very existence on this forum would "evict" such a valuable and loved member without so much as a warning for a first offense.

Are no mistakes or faux pas allowed?

Does lcuy's thousands, literally thousands of responses of advice and help mean nothing to you or Fordors'?

Are all of our passionate responses to the obvious troll's sick thoughts to be scrutinized?

I ask that the editors take into account the context and content of a thread and equally that of the contributors before just randomly exercising your banning options.

As an employer I would not want to loose someone of lcuy's caliber and for the life of me I can't figure out why Fodor's would want to even chance loosing her as a member.

I fear you may end up with no one to ban in the future if this practice is not modified soon.

Me Ke Aloha Pumehana Lucy!

Jaya Aug 15th, 2008 01:39 PM

OMG - I just saw this for the first time.
Lcuy banned???

But she's answered some of my India questions so well! There are several of you who's India knowledge and experience is very valuable and she's one of them.

Lcuy - if you see this - I hope you're back soon. :)

I am amazed! Mainly because I could name 2/3 posters who are genuinely obnoxious posting sexist or racist opinions and nothing seems to happen!

FREE LCUY

FromDC Aug 15th, 2008 03:14 PM

I'm really stunned....what could have triggered this kind of action?

Guenmai Aug 15th, 2008 04:54 PM

Lcuy banned...give me a break. And what exactly did she say to get banned?
And I totally agree with Filmwil. With all of the racist, sexist, anti-American venon that is spewed in various forums...especially the European forum...the editor's have plenty that they could be banning.
It's good that I have many of the Asia forum member's e-mail addresses..especially the ones who write about Thailand...just in case the lot of us gets banned, we'll still remain in contact. Life goes on after Fodors. Now, let me e-mail Lcuy to see what this is all about.
Happy Travels!

Craig Aug 15th, 2008 05:01 PM

Maybe the Fodor's Editors would be willing to share why lcuy was banned so that in the future we have something to go by. Seems ridiculous though with all of the other "stuff" going around on various forums that is far worse than what we see here on the Asia forum.

filmwill Aug 15th, 2008 05:58 PM

Bob, was she banned for something posted here or in the Lounge?

God knows I need to stay away from the Lounge (and the scourge of the Earth that inhabit it.)

lcuy Aug 15th, 2008 06:35 PM

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!

I am free!!

I just went to the registration page and typed my name and password...and I'm in again!

I really think (and hope) that it was a glitch with the system, as my only argument recently was to correct someone on a parking charge, then found myself reading the words:

"You have been banned."

I wrote in to the editors and they said I'd been banned for comments posted under another screen name...???

It was really, really painful, especially since my e-mail address is "fodoraddict at xxx.com"

So I'm back, and I am really grateful to all of you for your support. I'm bringing double mac nuts to the next GTG!!

Love and aloha to all of you,

lcuy aka Lucy

Gpanda Aug 15th, 2008 06:46 PM

Yay. Order has been restored. Lcuy is FREE.

Jaya Aug 15th, 2008 06:50 PM

So glad I checked backed in once more before going to bed. We can all sleep well tonight. :)

Glad you're back lcuy!

Kathie Aug 15th, 2008 07:01 PM

Lcuy was banned? (I've been away - just back) Lcuy is so level-headed and kind, I can't imagine what she could have written that would get her banned.

FREE LCUY!

filmwill Aug 15th, 2008 07:11 PM

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Kristina Aug 15th, 2008 07:14 PM

Yay! Glad it was only temporary! :-)

easytraveler Aug 15th, 2008 07:37 PM
