WOW! I stepped out for a day and had no idea this had happened. Glad everything is cleared up and LCUY IS BACK! Can't imagine why on earth Fodor's would have banned LCUY, who is one of the nicest people, provides tons of helpful info, and is a great asset to Fodor's. Meantime, some of the snide nasty posters keep right on posting -- talk about upside down & backwards! Anyway, glad you're back & welcome home.

rhkkmk Aug 15th, 2008 07:56 PM

POWER TO THE PEOPLE....

not really but thank you katie for taking care of this!!!

she really is a good person and she keeps us all in mac nuts!!!

Kathie Aug 15th, 2008 08:10 PM

Lcuy, so glad you are back. That's weird that you were banned for comments made under another screen name! All this time were you really spygirl?? LOL

vp_singh Aug 15th, 2008 09:39 PM

Great to see Icuy back...whome did you rub the wrong end, btw?

kuranosuke Aug 15th, 2008 09:47 PM

lucy, e komo mai. welcome back. now andy can comment about being hugged by someone in san diego.lol, and ht can resume his very informative contris. :-)

Guenmai Aug 15th, 2008 11:37 PM

I e-mailed you earlier and just checked my e-mail to see if you'd responded.
I decided to come on line, before going to bed, to check out things and to see if I would have to call in the troups, in the morning, to bust you out of Fodor jail....like use that "Get Out Of Jail" card. But, I see I won't need it, but will hold on to it in the event that another one of us gets banned. This incident really ticked me off and I e-mailed you saying that if you weren't freed, I'd cease posting until you were! Happy Travels!

Gpanda Aug 16th, 2008 02:21 AM

I'm glad to see that the community of Fodorites rallied so quickly to the defense of OUR LCUY. WE are truly all in this together.

simpsonc510 Aug 16th, 2008 05:04 AM

Welcome back, dear friend! So good to see you name on a post once again!
Carol

Guenmai Aug 17th, 2008 09:39 AM

Seems there would at least be a Fodor's explanantion and/or apology. Happy Travels!

marksfour Aug 17th, 2008 05:15 PM

I had called Dog Chapman to help spring you free but glad he won't be needed...
Welcome back!

Mango7 Aug 17th, 2008 06:00 PM

Wow, if I ever get banned will you guys pine for me too?

rhkkmk Aug 17th, 2008 06:21 PM

so i guess now you can back to being nasty!!!

lcuy Aug 17th, 2008 10:16 PM

yeah, now that I know the limits, I'm gonna go there (verbally ) (or what is the word for goingh there in writing??) more often.

You guys are the f&*^%*in' best!

>:-)

Nah, just doesn't suit me.....

crosscheck Aug 17th, 2008 10:33 PM

Does Fodors give free guidebooks mistakenly-blacklisted posters?

dogster Aug 17th, 2008 11:45 PM

Golly Gosh, I emerge from deepest India to see this fine example of community at work. Welcome back from oblivion Icuy and BRAVO forum for attending to this grave matter quick smart!

[I say this knowing that the increasingly lurid nature of my trip reports will see me on the banned list one day very very soon.]

Congratulations ALL for a job well done. I'm at the Oberoi Kolkata and already the staff have decorated the foyer with Welcome Back Icuy! balloons and banners.

lcuy Aug 18th, 2008 12:56 AM

Hey Dogster! If there's anything I would love to see its an Oberoi with my name on it!!

If I was rich enough, I'd fly all of you there for a GTG!

hawaiiantraveler Aug 18th, 2008 08:46 AM

Welcome back lcuy!

Think I like the >:-) lcuy better, lol

Aloha!

Guenmai Aug 18th, 2008 09:36 AM

Yes, Lcuy...never roll over and play dead and turn into a Stepford Wife. Keep the bite in you! Happy Travels!

laurieco Aug 18th, 2008 01:47 PM

I just got back from a weekend away and was very distressed to see that lcuy had been banned for a few days. So glad you're back! The editors around here are acting a little too pc. Editors: we have something called the Constitution which guarantees free speech and expression, even if you don't like it. I realize this is a "moderated" forum but if something is that offensive, can't you just get rid of the offending post? And I can't believe lcuy would say anything that offensive.

Katie_H Aug 19th, 2008 06:04 AM

Hello everyone--- I wish I had seen this post several days ago; I apologize for this belated response.

We aim to be fair and consistent in our moderating. Advertising, posting offensive posts directed towards another poster posted with one's screen name or another screen name, and general trolling are grounds for suspension.

If you ever have any questions about our monitoring policies you are welcome to write to us at [email protected].

This is a great forum because of the people that are here posting and participating.

Lcuy is a valued member of the forums and her contributions here are appreciated.

rhkkmk Aug 19th, 2008 09:10 AM

thanks katie....we think so tooooo..

bob

Elizabeth_S Aug 19th, 2008 01:05 PM

So glad lcuy is FREE!

Some of us old timers remember the banning frenzy of a few years ago when Patrick was banned - and then people were banned for talking about the banning - and went off and started TOS. ;) There was a definite chill on Fodors for a long while after that - I just saw this thread today and was happy to read it was resolved and that others were able to talk about it without consequence. (although I have yet to figure out if the original reason was a mistake or not?)

Mango7 Aug 22nd, 2008 07:22 AM

I can tell when no one cares about me :(

Gpanda Aug 22nd, 2008 09:03 AM

Elizabeth-are you able to give us more details on the prior spate of banning?

simpsonc510 Aug 23rd, 2008 02:37 AM

We care, Mango!!

Mango7 Aug 23rd, 2008 01:40 PM

Thanks Carol :) I know a lot of others here pass me off as a nonsignificant member here. Hope you are doing great,

Kurt

Elizabeth_S Aug 23rd, 2008 04:18 PM

Gpanda - it was in the Fall of 2005 - a regular poster (mainly on the Europe and US Boards) corrected some information in a post on the US Board (the information was really unimportant) - then the fur started to fly. The poster was banned and then others were banned for keeping the issue alive. A group left Fodors and started another website that I still go to occasionally - there are still several cross posters I believe.

It really put a pall on the site for some time. I've recently realized that the original poster is back under a new name - clearly Fodor's must know as it's a distinctive name.

rhkkmk Aug 23rd, 2008 04:54 PM

i can't find a TOS...what is the site??

Kathie Aug 23rd, 2008 06:18 PM

Elizabeth, I'd heard rumors at the time about people from the Europe board being banned. That barely caused a ripple here on the Asia board.

Gpanda Aug 24th, 2008 02:28 AM

Was this the Spygirl nonsense?

Elizabeth_S Aug 24th, 2008 05:46 AM

No it wasn't Spygirl - I really hesitate to name the person.

"TOS" was code language on the boards at that time for "that other site" - if you mentioned the actual name of the site you were banned as well (a whole lot o' banning goin' on at that time).

Here goes nothin'...........

rhkkmk Aug 24th, 2008 07:25 PM

thanks....i'm going to read on .....

gyppielou Aug 25th, 2008 07:54 AM

Just checking to see when the GTG in Boston is to see if dear lcuy is in need of orchard apples.

She is in good company of the been banned redemption song gang of posters that get up and stand up for other posters rights!

Gpanda Aug 25th, 2008 08:11 AM

The Boston GTG is 10/11/08. Nearly everyone is invited. We're also going to have a pre-GTG dinner on 10/10/08. Maybe even outside Cambridge.

dogster Aug 25th, 2008 08:23 AM

NEARLY everybody is invited...

This implies, to my fevered brain, that there are some definately NOT invited.

Any names you care to share Gpanda?

Gpanda Aug 25th, 2008 08:54 AM

Bob is not invited. The only way he gets to attend is that he is one of the organizers. It is Cambridge. We do have some standards. He will use the Tradememen entrance. Parking in a satellite lot. Come to think of it, perhaps he should wear a uniform. Something frilly would suit.

Additionally, Spygirl is not invited. Nor are any of her other noms de pleume.

AskOksana, however, is definitely invited. If she comes, she will be your co-awardee. Different awards.

dogster Aug 25th, 2008 08:59 AM

Wha...? Wha..? You mean AskOksana is a WOMAN?

Seriously... have I been misreading all [her] posts? The AskOksana I'M reading seems to be about as hetero-sexual and lusty a MAN as I've ever read...

Oh dear. [see my latest post in the Varanasi thread]

Kathie Aug 25th, 2008 09:13 AM

Dogster, take a careful look at the name of the "lusty" poster on your thread. You will notice it is subtly different from AskOksana.

It's a long story...

Gpanda Aug 25th, 2008 10:13 AM

The Dogsters thread is liberally spiced with solid contributions from AskOks----e-----na not the one, the only AskOksana. There is an unfinished thread started by AskOksana that has reached legendary status. As Kathie says, it's a long story. No doubt, it will be pepeated and rehashed at many GTG's in the future.

dogster Aug 25th, 2008 10:47 AM

Phew.
