"Picnic in May" by Pal Szinyei Merse - this is one of the best known and most important work of Hungarian paintings. It conveys warmth and happiness. Believe it or not, the artist received lots of criticism for this painting because some critics considered it modern and "dreadfully prosaic". It lacked poetic beauty. The painting was displayed in an obscure place at the World Exposition in Vienna in 1873. The artist was so upset that he withdrew his work from the Exposition.
