The Hiroshima Peace Memorial, also known as the Atomic Bomb Dome or Genbaku Dome. It is one of the few structures that remained standing near the hypocenter of the atomic bomb explosion on August 6, 1945. Originally, this building was the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion - a multi-purpose exhibition center built to showcase local products and promote the region’s industrial development.
The bomb exploded almost directly above the building, about 2000’ in the air.
