Yuk! ANOTHER reason to bring your own food!

Inspectors find airplane food warehouse infested with rodents
March 29, 2005 — A storage facility for airplane food at O'Hare was shut down Tuesday after city inspectors found it infested with rodents.
Authorities closed Gate Gourmet Storage where airline snack foods such as pretzels, pop and beer are stored.

City inspectors say they found more than a thousand rat droppings throughout the premises. Gate Gourmet was also found to be operating without a business license.

The warehouse will not reopen until it gets a license and passes another inspection.

I thought the pretzels tasted different...

massagediva Mar 31st, 2005 06:59 AM

Is this surprising to anyone? Not me.

rb_travelerxATyahoo Mar 31st, 2005 07:26 AM

And the flight attendant told me those were poppy & caraway seeds!!!!

ahhnold Mar 31st, 2005 07:35 AM

What I find amusing is people still pay extra for first class for the food;-)

placeu2 Mar 31st, 2005 07:44 AM

No big deal, they pour your beer in a plastic glass anyways!

Patrick Mar 31st, 2005 08:57 AM

ahhnold, are you serious? I've never ever heard of anyone who takes first class for the food. In fact I know many who only travel first class and always refuse the food. Most people who take it do so for the added room, comfort, and more "privacy".

This post gives the recent switch from pretzels to trail mix a whole new slant!

jor Mar 31st, 2005 09:18 AM

That explains that damn rat that jumped out of my pretzel bag when I opened it.

TxTravelPro Mar 31st, 2005 09:56 AM

Thank you, Patrick.
I fly first 95% of the time and I rarely eat or drink anything.
I even take my own water...
It's all about space and comfort!

TTP....I saw a tee shirt the other in the LA Airport.....(Front)"I have No Fear of Flying" (Back) "Just Fear of Flying COACH" :D

Next time I'm ordering bar service ONLY.

clarkgriswold Mar 31st, 2005 10:13 AM

There WAS no switch from pretzels to trail mix. It just looked like it.

Orcas Mar 31st, 2005 10:14 AM

At least noone has bitten into a finger with a nice long nail on an airplane! (that I know of, anyway!)

FainaAgain Mar 31st, 2005 11:35 AM

Hmmm... do they have BBQ there at O'Hare? Is this why it's called "hare"?

Scarlett Mar 31st, 2005 11:37 AM

LOL, Orcas, that is what I thought of, finding a finger in the salad is kind of stomach turning too.
I am happy that I do not eat plane food, especially those salty things that just make me die of thirst for the rest of the trip.
Bloody Marys are still safe aren't they? ((D))

"There WAS no switch from pretzels to trail mix. It just looked like it."

Congratulations, clarkgriswold, you got it.

atilla Mar 31st, 2005 01:31 PM

AND, those aren't grounds in your coffee!

~o)

Annabel Mar 31st, 2005 02:32 PM

hey ahhnold :)

I fly first class for the added room, comfort and service - oh yeah and the free drinks in real glasses aren't bad either. Airline food is gross no matter where you sit. Although I do enjoy the hot nuts with a vodka or two:)

Scarlett Mar 31st, 2005 02:36 PM

First Class to us is strictly for comfort! I never fly to eat.
I wonder how often those Inspectors inspect. How long was this going on? This was at O'Hare, what about all the other warehouses? Ick ick ick.

dsm22 Mar 31st, 2005 06:48 PM

Now that is seriously digusting. I have been taking my own food. Guess I will continue that.
