Your most Romantic Northern California Weekend

I know all you crazy romantics have some really good ideas for the parents of a teen and preteen to get away. We have a major ((L)) anniversary coming up ((d)) so your advice would be welcome. This would be in September and since we haven’t already made plans for the wine country that’s probably booked up. Need locations and lodging suggestions. In the past we almost always go to Tahoe but more of that is fine – no casinos though. Thanks all you romantics! ((L))

After traveling over Lake Shasta the past few times
... houseboat
... middle of the lake...
... few bottles of vino...
... good grub....
... nice music....
... the motion of the ocean.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. ;;)
Most of the lakes in Nor Cal should be pretty empty in Sept?

Fodorite018 Aug 1st, 2006 01:31 PM

Kal--I am laughing SO hard!!! We used to rent those houseboats in college, and our weeks there were definitely NOT as subdued as your description:D

Kal Aug 1st, 2006 01:35 PM

Would they be the same now?
Some of us have to grow up sooner or later....I'm voting for later!

Fodorite018 Aug 1st, 2006 01:42 PM

LOl! I hope not! I know I couldn't keep up like I used to;)

Kal Aug 1st, 2006 01:45 PM

Suuuuz has been to most the places in Nor Cal I would think romantic, sooo.

Sutter Creek? Coloma?

Carmel/Mont/Santa Cruz wine countries? We're doing that for our's in Nov instead of Y'ville this year.

Fly up to Portland?
10th anniv? :))

Lake Shasta? Sounds like a GTG location! Fun and romance!

BayouGal Aug 1st, 2006 01:55 PM

Good one, Kal!

We are not Californians, so I can only tell you what we loved, which is limited compared to locals.

Weekend at Bodega Bay - Inn at the Tides - incredible views, excellent accommodations, beautiful location - king, comfy beds and wood burning fireplaces. Kayaking, fishing, surfing, horseback riding, etc., in the area.

Fodorite018 Aug 1st, 2006 01:56 PM

OMG, a GTG at Shasta on houseboats sounds like a blast!

Suzie:
This price for 3 nights at MacCallum House at Luxury Link is a steal !

I'd call them first to see if they have your dates and room choice available
then go and bid-the auction ends
tomorrow !

We have a "major" ((L))anniversary in October-so congrats to you !

Ok you romantics all great ideas! Thanks so much. Don't know about being so close to a body of fresh water since DH has rediscovered fishing ugh! ;)

I've got to get on this or it'll be a bottle of beer and burgers out back! Thanks!

Kal Aug 1st, 2006 02:47 PM

sistahlou,
Is that an offer or are you trying to make Faina2 jealous? ;;)

Suuuuuuuz, you tired of baiting his hook? :-d

Suzie Aug 1st, 2006 02:52 PM

Kal keeping things clean ...eeuwww no worms or salmon eggs for me! But he's really a fly fisherman so no bait.

Hey BTW guys, based on razzle's claim of also having a major anniversary which ones are the majors anyway? Are razzle and I celebrating the same major? I thought there were only a couple of majors but the further along I get on this road they all start to seem like majors! ;)

NotMe Aug 1st, 2006 02:53 PM

One other place you might want to consider - Sea Ranch.

Kal Aug 1st, 2006 02:55 PM

As long as he keeps his fly up when he's on fishing trips he won't get snagged.

Our major one was 17. Barely made it thru that year together...THAT was major!
This year will be the 10th anniv of that mess! HEY!!!

How about the Bodega Bay Lodge and Spa. You can have a massage right on the premises.

Another idea is the Joshua Grindle Inn in Mendocino. They also can arrange for a massage on the premises. You can then walk to dinner at one of the many fabulous restaurants in Mendo; or do what my husband and I do -- get some yummy "take out" from Tote Fete and eat in your room while basking in the glow of a bottle of good wine.
((l)) Happy Anniversary! ((l))

Suzie:
If we are still together after this
d#!% kitchen remodel it will be MAJOR,
by golly ! It will be 10 (legal) and 2nd time around for both of us "young-ins'"
:S-

Kal:
Not going to Y'ville ????

I know...the Bordeaux House has already called me and yelled at me.

We started getting away from family T'giving's by going to Carm/Mont/SC...then to SF... Then to Y'ville...going full circle now.

We can finally go hit all the ***yummy** restaurants I've been hearing about since our last trip.

You and Rico ever do a houseboat on Berryessa or Clearlake?

Kal Aug 1st, 2006 04:47 PM

Hey!
The Delta area?
Grand Mansion?
Ryde Hotel?

Or too close to fishing?

Suzie Aug 1st, 2006 05:03 PM

Kal you're killing me! Everything is too close to fishing!!!

I'm looking up everyone's ideas. Makes me want to go to all these places!!!
